Perhaps Disco's end means Picard's continuation :D
That would be nice, but given Stewart will turn 83 this year I can't see it happening.
I think the "five times" comment was meant to show how impossible their relationship was and is.
I never thought of their relationship as "impossible". If they'd ever learned to communicate with each other properly, moved past their quite significant baggage and gotten the hell over themselves there was a decent chance it would have worked out. The fact they (apparently) did none of those things is a significant part of the reason they find themselves in this situation.

As I mentioned in an earlier post neither Beverly nor Picard is completely right or wrong. I don't agree with Beverly's choice but given everything she'd already lost - and the aforementioned inability to properly communicate with each other she and Picard have always had - I understand why she made it. As several posters have mentioned, people don't always make smart / great choices, particularly under duress, and the more time that passes the harder it becomes to deal with some of / all the consequences of those choices. People aren't perfect, even in the 24th century.

As for "toxic" () and "gaslighting" () and "Beverly never cared for Picard as much as he cared for her" and the like... We must have received completely different episodes in Australia to everywhere else because I never saw any of that in their relationship. Anywhere.

Ethics question for everyone: Of course, the mother always has the ultimate decision of what to do for her baby (the body is hers).

But do you think the mother (from a moral / ethical point of view) always has the right to hide the birth of a child from her father? I mean not just in cases where the latter would be a bad influence on the child, but as a general rule.
Not in every case, no, but certainly if the father is abusive to her or would otherwise endanger the child.

It is case by case. If it is to protect the child then fair enough.
My issue with what Beverly done is that she makes Picard out to be some adventuring death wish maniac and completely absolved herself of the fact she was a willing collaborator in said adventures.

I think that was less about the years on the Enterprise and more about a specific, intense series of post-Nemesis/pre-PIC S1 incidents that happened when Beverly was already in emotional turmoil and Picard would have been consumed by the evacuation effort. So I guess we're supposed to take it as it wasn't so much that Picard was always in such a state of high peril, but that was his life when she had a choice to make, and even once his circumstances changed, her emotional impressions of the situation didn't.

Interesting about the changeling. What we know from DS9 about the great link makes it seem like it shouldn't be possible for such a division to happen among changelings.

It feels like if the actor hadn't died we'd have a good chance of seeing Odo this season.

I don't get that sense at all. The Link is made up of individuals who have different opinions.

"That's why we took so long to bring you home. There was disagreement in the Link over what to do with you."

Probably not a continuation of ST:Picard but perhaps ST: Titan with some of the characters returning. Likely a Seven series. Probably Laforge's daughter. With budget cutbacks, I could see DISCO and PIC getting reduced down to Titan (TIT?). SNW likely continues.

and of course odo had very different views to the other changelings

they did seem to a agree on a couple of things — no changeling has ever harmed another for example. Beyond that…

What are the chances the Picard/Riker fallout is just a ploy to out the spy?
I would like that. I'm not sure what the chances are, but I like it better than drudging through a fallout between them until the inevitable reconciliation.

I think Worf and Raffi's search for who stole secrets from the Daystrom Institute will lead them straight to Vadic (and Picard, Seven, Riker, Dr. Crusher).

I also have a feeling that Vadic wants to get Jack before he has a chance to "Connect the branches." he sees in his visions.

Isn’t this somewhat covered in ‘Up The Long Ladder’ ?

not sure but I was hoping that colony would be the big bad of the season

I didn't like Sydney Laforge calling her own father a legend - come on - and I missed someone like Mariner in this episode when the vulcan science officer said "starfleet has never encountered anything like it". I"m sure Mariner would come up with a list of similar encounters ;)

I have clearly been doing a little too much LDS recently as I was expecting a reference to Nagilum when they were talking about a living nebulas.

Reactions: kkt
"Gaslighting" is a little too much, but it didn't exactly seem like the healthiest of relationships to me.

I'm not saying it was healthy. Picard should not have allowed Crusher to serve on the Enterprise in the first place. But it was far from toxic and neither Crusher or Picard 'gaslit' each other. That is just patently false.

If the next series is Star Trek: Titan, I'm just typing out Titan, it ain't that hard. ;)

I won't type "TIT" because it'll make me feel dirty, and I refuse to type "STT" because I'm not going to give people who use "STD" any type of legitimacy.

Here's hoping they do what they did with SNW and be more creative with the sub-titles.

I love Seven, but Id prefer her to be the CO to Shaw. I really like the character, and like him even more after spending a week on the ST cruise with him. Shaw, Seven, Laforge, and a few others to round out the cast would make a compelling series, i think. Maybe even with a noncom Dr. Jack Crusher.
