I'm on that cruise, and was at that panel. There are a lot of things Sirtis seems bitter about. At the various panels throughout the week she came across as very bitter and unhappy. She made sure to also point out she hated doing video game voiceovers for STO and says she's never played a video game because she has a life.

Eek.
What Marina Sirtis did VO in STO? Been playing that MMO since it launched and I hadn't heard she did any work on it...or was the question just basking if she would/had been asked to do it? If she did, it's for content they haven't released into the game as yet.

And honestly (as someone who has produced VO - Her VO work on the Disney Gargoyles animated series wasn't great. There were many times where you could tell she was literally reading the lines off the script AS she recorded them, and in scenes where you needed to convey a certain emotion with the voice, she didn't do that and it came off very monotone. Johnathan Frakes, Michael Dorn, Brent Spiner and Kate Mulgrew on the other had were all great in that series.

VO acting is a somewhat different acting skillset and not all TV actors can do it well - although if you have a good VO director that given the time to work with the talent. Maybe she just doesn't like doing voice acting in general.

Just did a second viewing today.

Did anyone notice Picard's hypocrisy?

He barked at Beverly for daring to bring up something he'd told her in confidence about his relationship with Maurice as part of an argument about whether he'd make a good father, then hours later he brings up the deeply personal loss of Thad as a reason why Riker can't make good tactical decisions.

Can't have it two ways, old man.

Either 24th century humans process grief better, or they don't.

I wonder if the veins/vines Jack sees in his vision are related to those we see on Vadic's face. Since he sees it along with Seven, could it be hinting at some kind of organic collective consciousness? Possibly one using Changeling morphogenics and artificial neural pathways, hence why they'd steal Lore from the Daystrom Institute?

No it's related to the alien they are trapped in. As Bev explains Jack is just a lure to get to Picard.

It will be to replace him with a changeling for his frontier day speech.

If you look closely, you can see the flash of the shields when the Shrike's weapons hit the Titan. The shields are just skin tight now, instead of the bubble. The shields are mitigating damage. It would be much worse without the shields. With the shields, there is concussion damage that causes fires and systems to overload but the structure of the ship is still intact. Without shields, half the saucer would the torn right off and floating into space.
They've been able to configure the shields whoever they want (Bubble of Hull-Tight) since TOS. In TOS S1 Mudd's Women, the 1701 is able to extend their shields to protect Mudd's ship from asteroids thousands of kilometers ahead of them. It takes a lot of power and in that instance badly damaged the ship, but the capability is always there.

I would surmise that there is a 'sweet spot' between overall power usage and 'optimal protection' - and it's the near hull tight shields we see in this instance. ;)

Beverly's explanation needed to be GOOD. And it wasn't. That was a very weak excuse. Totally out of character. Picard has a target on his back? Please. Picard is the captain least likely to have anyone come after him ever. He's relatively chill. Unlike Kirk.

Probably my biggest miss so far.

Except for that Ferengi and that clone. And the Borg. And probably someone I forgot.

Also, if Jack is supposed to be in his early twenties, then hasn't Picard just been moping around on his vineyard for most of that time, and not off hopping around the galaxy being a hero, and making enemies?

He'd quit Starfleet and settled down at home, probably the ideal time for him to be a father.

There is no guarantees that Beverly knew this. Their last mission together they lost a friend. Why in the world would she go "Oh, he's totally safe now?"
