Disco Ending In 2024

The Oscars are on March 12th.
For now, she's a nominee (a huge honor in and of itself). What actor wouldn't want to be billed as an "Academy Award nominee"?
It is/was Star Trek to me. Unfortunately it had a great cast with some very unimaginative writing. The same thing plagues Picard.
I suddenly remember a conversation I was having with a coworker at a new job in 2016 when he found out I was a fan and asked if I was excited for the new Star Trek show. My answer was something to the effect of, "Sure, if they ever actually come out with it."
This series needs to go out on a high note because so far - at best - it's been batting about .500 on a generous day for the show as a whole. Season 4 showed they can stick the landing but the last bunch of episodes as well as the series finale need to be something REALLY special to make this five-season journey worth it.
I saw speculation that it has been delayed to shoot a proper ending.
IMHO, the writing was on the wall for some time.
Discovery was a show that never should have succeeded, as most shows where the showrunner is fired before the first episode is even shot are quietly canned. It was only kept alive through because CBS needed content for its streaming platform, and Star Trek was by far the most notable franchise owned by them. Hence the show drifted over time from whatever vision Fuller had for it to just becoming the revival of Star Trek in general.
The problem with all of this is that Discovery has been an expensive show to make, and salaries for cast members rise with every season. This investment made sense as long as Discovery remained the flagship live-action series. But with the universal acclaim for Strange New Worlds - and perhaps Picard Season 3 righting the ship on the 25th Century - Discovery was looking less like a flagship show, and more like something eclipsed by other Trek content (though of course we'll never know for sure, given CBS doesn't publicly release streaming info).
While I understand why they did it, I ultimately think that skipping ahead to the 32nd century may also have been a mistake. Yeah, it gave them freedom to ignore continuity, but it seems clear that the most popular thing among Trek fans is memberberries and use of past characters, and Discovery is pretty much entirely unmoored from that now, more or less a generic sci-fi adventure show.
I still kinda wish my predictions mid Season 1 that Discovery would become a lost ship bouncing around the multiverse to lots of Trek alternate realities came true.

It's that terrible idea that's been kicking around for decades since they were first uncertain whether Shatner & Co. would do another TOS movie.
In case of creative bankruptcy, float the SFA idea again.
Ironically, I think Tilly's 32nd century show could work...
So it makes me wonder if Lower Decks will be next on the chopping block as its in fourth season already and will be probably be getting a fifth.
Animation costs a fraction of live action, so animated trek can deal with a more niche audience.
I read the article and it took me a little bit to realize we are still a year away from New Discovery. I was thinking it was airing this year. Now with Discovery and Picard ending that leaves three shows, and I hope Lower Decks continues for a while.
that's true given how long Family Guy, the Simpsons and South Park have been on.
Well, along with Picard's ending, this opens 20 weeks a year for 2 new series.

So 2024 is going to be a big year for Streaming shows. You'll have Discovery Season 5, Andor Second and final Season 2 (Boo!) and House of the Dragon Season 2.
