So I'm getting a very Star Trek Online storyline vibe from this recent episode. Its feeling like they are KINDA going with that New Link storyline or something, given the narration from Worf talking about the rogue group of Changelings, its possible they are going to reveal the group being part of The True Way. And some of those weapons feel like they took right out of STO. Any other STO players here getting that vibe as well?

My fanboy senses are tingling so much after that. Worf is so cool. I found him kind of annoying back in the day, but old, wise Worf is fantastic.

And there's something beautiful about Crusher and Picard's random son and Seven of Nine dealing with a changeling. Crossover magic.

Again, thought it was fine. I enjoyed it more than last week. Seven and Jack being chaotic in vital cause was fun; very nice chemistry between the actors. Ensign LaForge is a good egg. Worf and Raffi's good cop/bad cop routine would have worked better for me if they'd been able to resist throwing in the quips wrt Worf's new philosophy. Really, most of the jokes they gave Worf and Raffi this week didn't land for me - there was just something self-conscious in the writing. But it's good to see Worf again and I like this progression for him. Also, the listing of his family and great deeds was a really cool moment. The confrontation between Picard and Beverly was well-acted, but I just couldn't really buy into it; I think it's because it's a scene of high emotional stakes, but so many of Beverly's concerns are things we're being told about after the fact rather than anything we saw during the TNG run or movies that I just don't have much investment, more "Well, if they were going to go this direction, it could have been worse." The conflict between Riker and Picard, though, that had me invested - those parting words were harsh. I'm more curious about how those two will repair their relationship (or if they will) than I am in where Picard and Beverly go from here.

There was already implications of Laas starting his own offshoot group I think (assuming he ever got cured from Section 31's disease). Laas might even be the villain.

Someone on reddit mentioned to me that Remy Auberjonois, Rene's son, is also an actor. I googled him and he looks enough like his father that he could realistically be what Odo looks like after perfecting a human face.

Oh yeah definitely looks like his old man. He would be my choice too.

So what do Changelings want or need with Jack Crusher? Isn't he just a worthless solid to them? (further solidified now that the Changeling on the Titan outright tried to kill him) Picard was basically irrelevant in the Dominion War unless I missed something in DS9. Shouldn't the Changelings be going after Jake Sisko?

And yeah, hate to say "I told you so" but there really was no justifiable reason for Beverly to hide Jack at all and those insisting there would be some deep revelatory reason don't seem to have been correct.

I'm still not convinced that Jack is Picard's son, or even a naturally conceived human. In Jack's hallway conversation with Riker, he led off by saying Riker was looking at him like "something cooked up in a lab," and Riker very noticably kept referring to Jack's resemblance to "[his] father," without once using Jean-Luc's name. Plus there's all that DNA imagery in the closing credits.

Feels like something is up.

Holy crap, what a ride that was. Of the possible answers to "Who is this "vengeful enemy the Federation had forgotten" I did not see The Founders as being it. And damn, they sure know how to pull off a cliffhanger ending each week. And the entire "use the portal to direct the Titans torpedoes back at itself" was effing brilliant. I thought to myself, "Now there's something we've never seen in Trek before."

My only gripe is the "Remove yourself from the bridge, you've killed us all." from Riker. Not only is that unfair seeing as he gave the order to fire, but to basically admit defeat in front of your entire bridge crew was in really horrible form. I guess I can buy that Riker just isn't the guy he was on the Enterprise-D anymore but still...that was rough.

So my guess is that the main antagonist ...
(who we haven't seen yet but at this point we may have a pretty good idea who it is),
... doesn't really want the Titan-A and it's current crew to be completely destroyed.
It's just going to be stuck in the anomaly, like being in amber.

Imitating how the possible main antagonist was "stuck away" by Picard for many years.
Vadic could have destroyed the ship easily at any point, but was obviously under orders not to.

Perhaps that same entity is also manipulating the rogue changelings?
I wouldn't put it past that entity to do so, since they pretty much did the same with a group of Borg.

I'm also thinking that the old holodeck character may be the one who saves the day.

Wow. That Changeling's work ethic is supreme. It kept its shape right up until the very end! And why it didn't change into something else whilst being pursued escapes me...

So no Butt-bugs from "Conspiracy" then? Bummer.

Worf carries more quips than a quiver of arrows.

Picard dressed down by Riker in "All Good Things" Angry-Admiral mode. At least this series is consistent with its abject humiliation of the man.

Chrome Voyager. Cool.

Yeah. Love the "Mug" shot of the Changeling!

"FIRE EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT!" Four torpedoes is all they have left? Ouch. I feel their pain.

His voice and mannerisms are also bang on the same as his fathers. Granted I only have a scene from 30 Rock where Rmey plays an ex american tether ball champion to go on, but I could absolutely see him playing Odo.

When the Titan flies right towards the cam, then the cam spins around, the music is similar to the Reliant theme from WoK

I don't think Riker should've dressed down Picard in front of the crew, it was unprofessional. Yes, that backfired attack was Picard's suggestion but Riker was the one who followed through on it. I find this hard to believe this is the same Riker who kept his cool and ordered to ram into the Borg ship during the presumed assimilation of Earth in Best of Both Worlds.

Riker should've just taken Picard aside and said to stay in his quarters and that would've been that. It wouldn't have changed anything anyway. The showrunners hyped up there'd be conflict between the TNG crew but I think they're overdoing it, or doing it in a way that comes off as artificial. Case in point the basic character assassination of Beverly Crusher--the TNG Beverly never would've kept Picard from his son.
That was probably the Crimson Tides scene they talked about.
As so many people have said so many times, including the actors, they are not the same people 20 years later.

Man, I loved that Portal tech and the redirecting of the Photon Torpedoes.

That's literally "Game Changing" tech.
It reminded me of a comic where they beam the enemy's torpedoes right back behind them :D

Best episode of the season so far. Perhaps second best episode of the entire series, after Season 2's premiere.

I just had a thought. Maybe the reason Riker is treating Picard so harshly is because he's not Will, but Thomas? Probably not though. He's mostly likely just upset Picard isn't takinf being a father as seriously as he thinks he should.

Great to see changelings again.

This season really does have a Wrath of Khan/Undiscovered Country feel to it. Not in a knock-off way though.

"Beheadings are on Wednesdays." :lol

An overall strong episode.

+ Worf and Raffi (strong DS9 vibes)
+ The action scenes in the nebula (the Titan getting hit by her own photon torpedos, wow!)
+ Jack makes himself useful to earn the trust of the crew

- the disagreement between Riker and Picard felt forced
- Beverly's explanation why she didn't tell Picard about Jack's existence felt selfish. I know that she had already lost a husband and son to the universe. But that was not a good enough reason why she left everything and everyone behind. Maybe it will make more sense in the coming episodes.

8,5/10
