This series is my favourite Star Trek post Berman (I do like all that ive seen anyhow) But the way the ships move and feel in this particular series is just heartwarming! Bring on ep 3

However, given Worf's Starfleet career, it's entirely possible he went through a situation like Teal'c did at the end the STARGATE SG-1 finale... a time dilation field where he aged decades in a few seconds. (Really, decades passed when the Odyssey was in a subspace field that stopped time, and by the time Carter figured out how to get back, someone had to go back and change things and only Teal'c, with his lifespan of almost double that of humans, was the logical choice. He kept his gray streak of hair, though.)

All that, when it could be as simple as 'some people go grey at different times to other people'.

There's people in this world who go grey in their teens. I'm 43 and I've got more than a few grey hairs on my chin.

No time dilation shenanigans needed. Just nature's ticking clock marking time differently for different folks.

Regarding Jack looking old for his age, it's just in the fine tradition of 30 something year olds playing teenagers like the cast of Grease or 90210. Besides at least he's playing someone in their mid-twenties.

Ed Speleers is doing a great job. I buy him as Picard and Crusher's son. Suspension of disbelief is required a little for his age. It's really not that big of a deal. I've seen some rough looking or I should say older looking 20 somethings in real life. Look at Lee Harvey Oswald.

People looking their ages is a weird concept anyway. It might just be my long-existing difficulties with guessing people's ages, but in my experience, whether someone looks their age or not very often depends on the viewer's personal and cultural expectations as well as overall health, stress levels, environmental factors, style and fashion and so on... I mean, it's a well known phenomenon that people in the past have often looked several years if not decades older than what we would now consider appropriate for their ages.

I raise you Clark Gable at 39 or Liz Taylor at 17. And of course this neat comparison of Carroll O'Connor at 47 when All in the Family started in 1971 vs Woody Harrelson at 58 playing Archie in the 2019 ABC special.

I’m not sure what Beverly told Jack to keep him from wanting to look Picard up himself.

Yeah, that's the other interesting implication of Jack knowing exactly who Picard is. Jack's an adult now and presumably could have hit a few buttons and called Picard up at any time, but has chosen not to. It's not just Beverly's decision anymore. I wouldn't assume it's something that Bev said that's stopping Jack. I'm guessing it's some combo of pride and fear of rejection, plus loyalty to his mom. The writers have teased about Jack having to figure out who he is as the son of a living legend and how much pressure that it. He might have been choosing to avoid that until now.

On rewatches I've noticed the awful shaky cam in visually calm scenes. It drove me crazy in First Man, why do camera operators do that? They've invented the steadicam to avoid shaking when the cam moves a lot - and now they shake it on purpose when nothing is moving at all. :brickwall:

Yeah the shaky cam thing really gained traction afterthe Bourne Identity. Now so many shows and movies do that like.its some kind of amazing creative decision. It's headache inducing and doesn't help the story at all. It's also become cliche now. One day a person will decide to make a modern Sci fi or action movie using a old fashioned studio cam and they'll be hailed a genius. Lol

Also, I’m not sure if someone else has already said this, but Worf showing up was a proper “holy shit” moment for me. I was convinced it was Elnor when I saw the sword pop out the guys chest.

I hadn't thought of that. If it was Elrond Jr. I would have cried tears of sadness and grief. Instead it was Worf. Hecks yeah.
