I don’t know if this has been brought up yet, as there’s no way I’m gonna be able to catch up with the posts the way they keep racking up.
But my first thought when I saw that green tractor beam used to toss the ship at the Titan was..oooh they could use that to make a big giant green hand in space!

As Shaw points out, they only had Jack's word that he was Beverly's son, since she was in no shape to confirm. It took Picard confirming it, after a moment of silent communion with Beverly, for that unsubstantiated claim to become accepted as fact.

And given Starfleet medical tech I would think Beverly could use Picard or Shinzon’s DNA to synthesize the equivalent of sperm to fertilize her egg. And it would be very easy to collect actual Picard DNA at any time over many years. Maybe post Baku regeneration.

So then she spends 20 years hiding from her shipmates so they don’t find out.

My bet is Picard was not knowingly involved.

There is nothing misogynistic about calling someone a slut because he or she concealed the existence of a child to the other parent. It is the in fact the epitome of human slutiness. The word is not forbidden and it has become eclectic in usage. Misogyny is defined as hate towards women, which couldn’t be more far off from the meaning of „slut“ in this particular context.
Maybe it is also a cultural misconception. Where i come from, sluts can be either women or men…
Don't use it here, and don't argue publicly when a moderator gives you an informal notification. Next time you'll get a formal warning. Arguments to PM (Conversation function).

We have Worf now if you're playing along with TNG bingo. I've always loved him and got excited in his brief scene with Raffi, though it's interesting wondering what role he's going to play in this. Is he Starfleet Security as well?

Vadic was a pretty exciting adversary, and she felt relatively fresh for Star Trek.

I loved seeing Crusher appear on the bridge and confirm, with that look, that Jack was Picard's son.

I don't think it was quite as strong as last week, but I still felt that it was an 8. Can't wait for next week.

Honestly, that would create so MANY ethical issues, that I cannot see them going that route and I hope that the writers do not do so. UNLESS, he agreed to be such a donor, but she never told him that it worked because he's not a fan of kids. That would be an interesting line to follow, but I'll be surprised if that is the case.

Totally random thought - she actually wanted another child from her husband Jack, but didn't have totally viable DNA and with the technology they have Picard's DNA was spliced in to fill in the gaps. That would be a new twist on the trope.

Oh boo fucking hoo. Swearing is a normal part of language.
You grotty little wanker!

You can only swear in French (as it is sophisticated) in that era

Season 1 barely had swearing. There were 2 fucks.

Maybe for you, not for most people, at least not for most people on this site.

I wondered where those went - meant that when people complained about swearing before I had no fucks to give...

There are no pacing issues, some people just have the attention span of a gnat. I'm perfectly content to see how things play out.

If perfectly isn't explained immediately it's horrible to some. If the villain is introduced in an episode and we don't immediately know her motivations or story it's horrible to some. I've seen the show runner respond to many complaints on twitter since last week with "keep watching" or "it will be explained"

Reading a novel must be sheer torture for those kinds of people.

Yep. If something is left hanging at the end of 10 episodes, then it's a legit beef. Think the finale of nuBSG after 4 seasons.

It's only the first episode with her jeeze.

Right, but 95% of most villains in the Star Trek universe get "one episode" or movie, and that's plenty to create substance and character. I'm just not a fan of the cackling, scene-chewing, maniacal, crazy-eyed baddies. This one was about as over-the-top annoying as it gets. Total turn off.

Captain Angel from SNW, once the reveal took place, very much the same. Garbage, capmy, overplayed and annoying.

Most likely 60 seconds in Sick-bay.

The Tricorder probably isn't designed for that detailed of a scan, just drag him to Sick-bay and take the DNA test.

You'd be done in a minute.

The tricorders in INS had no problem reading the genetic similarities between the So'na and the Ba'ku. Of course, that was at the species level.

Right. They wanted you to be able to get that Shinzon was a clone and made a continuity error of sorts due to thinking the audience couldn't possibly figure it out otherwise.

Maybe cadet Picard had to shave his head as part of an Academy tradition. He was a marathon runner, maybe the team decided they'd all shave their heads as a show of unity (or for improved aerodynamics).

I say that half tounge-in-cheek, but honestly, things like that happen all the time, so there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation. The NEM picture doesn't bother me at all.

Fair - but this season has been set up as an over arching story from the get go, rather than a one off episode. There is more room to work here. In a fair comparison making the season equivalent to a one off, this episode was 6 minutes out of the full hour. There is still time to resolve the character.

Gave it an 8!
I would give it a 9 if Picard's son wasn't so annoying. I can't stand of him. I hope they will tone him down a bit in the next episodes.
I like Shaw, the poor bastard having his ship hijacked by Picard..
I really enjoyed Vadic, especially her being so giddy having to pursuit Titan.
Raffi's plot is also interesting..although I am not sure if she is that good of an intelligent officer... and well... Worf!
Sums up my initial thoughts quite well.

Nothing new under the sun, really. As much valid criticism Discovery, for example, has received through the years, I've noticed really early on that the most vitriolic whining about plot holes, destroying Gene's vision etc. tended to be made about stuff that got resolved in literally the next episode. Case in point: Ripper the Tardigrade being used to power the spore drive, people started whining about how the show is throwing Star Trek's entire message into the trash and treats animals being harmed as normal (despite the obvious focus on Ripper's suffering), and lo and behold, Burnham spent the entire next episode freeing the poor tardigrade and finding an alternative.

And of course, the lack of an immediate in-word explanation sometimes even meant that by the time we actually received an explanation, they had already made their assumptions and started complaining that the explanation contradicted those. Like with that scene after Discovery arrived back from the Mirror Universe, the situation map displaying the Klingon-Federation border map from the Star Charts book was updated to be all Klingon-controlled and Saru declared they lost the war. And then, when Cornwell arrived in the next episode to tell that the Klingons occupied 19% of Federation space (a reasonable assumption, really, considering that the map only showed the contested border region in the first place), people immediately cried a retcon because they had assumed the map and Saru's words meant that the Klingons conquered the entire Federation when no one has ever said anything of the sort.

Terry says the contrast issue on P+ should be fixed.

Terry has said you may end up sympathizing/empathizing (I don't remember what word) with her before the end, so there is more to her character than what we saw here.
