The Dolby Vision version of the episode was fine for me. The SDR seemed a bit over saturated when I checked.
Episode plays normally on my iPhone and iPad. But I normally watch through the website on my computer, and it's horrible. It's more oversaturated then watching a full episode of Sisko when he is speaking to the prophets, it actually was severe enough it gave me a massive headache.

I see no way to change versions on the web site, it might be on the appletv (which I have in two other rooms but not my room.

But at least I will be able to watch it tomorrow and not be completely removed from the episode.

Exciting.

I am also disappointed in learning Jack is Picard's son. I didn't realize I would be. If he was born when Crusher was away in S2 of TNG, when the hell did the two hook up? And how does it make sense with episodes like "Allegiance" and "Attached"? And if it's they hooked up between episodes and the real issue was emotional connection between them and not sex, how is that satisfying to the whining Genwunners who hate everything?

I really enjoyed it. The scene between Picard and Beverly was really strong to me even if I did not initially like the idea of a son storyline. I understand people being hesitant, especially as at the moment it casts Beverly in a less than positive light for keeping it from him, but I trust that the next few episodes will explore further in a satisfying manner (from what I have heard).

I'm thinking they're going with conception after NEM. If people in their mid 20s can play high school sophomores and early 30s university students...

I'm also thinking there's some kind of special medical thing going on with Jack, that could explain the interest from Vadic and the quick aging.

Or you end up with a Ben Platt situation. lol

If that's the case, they really should have set it in 2411. Handsome guy with a young air, but no way does he look 22. Shrug. That's easier to believe than they hooked up in "The Neutral Zone" and she had him raised by somebody else. Though maybe the recently unemployed Pulaski was all like, "I'm not doing anything now. Want me to raise him, Bev?"

The leaked son character casting call thingy from a few years ago said the son was "in his early 20s". Going by this I'm guessing people are simply supposed to believe that he is just that, despite the actor looking a bit older.
Remember the new Kirk for SNW is in his 40's, playing a 34-year-old Kirk in his debut episode and then an even younger version in the forthcoming season.

Not as strong as last week, however Worf knows how to make an entrance. The unspoken dialogue between Picard and Crusher was powerful but I’ve never been a fan of the Scrappy Doo Picard idea. I hope it’s explained WELL. Also why do villains always give people time? Still looking forward to more.

I can't get that worked up about Jack Crusher for his own sake; half of the Picard/Bev Crusher 'shippers give them a kid, why not Matalas? My doubt is all centered around how they can possibly explain him without damaging Beverly's character.
Why would having a son with JLP damage Beverly's character?

Let's go with Ed Speleers real age, 34 y/o.
Let's say he wasn't born right after Nemesis, but during that 1 year that Beverly was away and head of StarFleet Medical.
That should be close enough to account for the age of Jack/Ed.

He should be in his late 20's / early 30's.

Because she's not afraid of the USS Titan.

It's a "Puny little ship" in comparison of size / fire power / etc compared to her ship.

She's confident enough to lower the shields to make let StarFleet scan them and not take a trick shot during that vulnerable moment.

Maybe Beverly & JLP hooked up during the events of "The Naked Now"
That was S1 Ep 3.
Beverly was gone for S2, and back for S3.
ST:TNG S2 took place in 2365
ST:PIC S3 takes place in 2401
That's a 36 year time gap.
Assuming Beverly gave birth near the early part of S2 or later part of S2.
The age of Jack Crusher could be 35/36 y/o.
That should match with 34 y/o Ed Speleers who portrays Jack Crusher.

+ The shot of the Titan warping in to sever the tractor beam was awesome. Awesome job by Ensign LaForge, that had to be tricky.
- When they revealed that Jack was something of a con man I was hoping that meant he wasn't even Beverly's son, much less Picard's....and then they just revealed that's exactly who he was anyway. Meh.
+ Was surprising to see that level of gore, but Worf chopping those dudes up was badass. I feel like they're trying to make up for all those times Worf was used as the proverbial punching bag in TNG.
- Not sure why they keep having Picard seem so bewildered. "What did she just do." Uh...did you not have the same view out the viewscreen that everyone else did?
+ I loved that Shaw immediately went with the plan to protect Jack the moment he learned that he's Picard's son. He may be a cranky curmudgeon but he's not a total dick.
+ Vadic wasn't what I expected from the trailers and I'm for one glad to see she doesn't have some personal vendetta against Picard (as far as we know). The closest I can remember to her particular demeanor was Eric Bana's casual delivery of "Hello Christopher, I'm Nero." in ST09. Somehow a villain who is finding joy and glee in being the villain is much more threatening than the standard mustache-twirling, sinister bad guy routine. I only wish her crew wasn't comprised of yet more faceless minions.
+ The sound design has been on point so far. I particularly enjoyed the TUC-style viewscreen sound effect, and the LCARS and transporter sounds have been very TNG.
+ Ensign LaForge gets huge kudos for spot on location for emerging from Warp.
+ I definitely love the part where they flung the Eleos at the Titan.
More proof that with enough Kinetic energy damage, you can over power shields through brute force alone. Quite the move by Captain Vadic. Also loved Ensign LaForge having to explain that to Captain Shaw.
+ Worf finally getting to be super badass and chop off some heads, all those years of him being a meme and the "Worf Effect" trope gets named after him. Now he gets a measure of awesomeness by saving raffi.
+ I don't think JLP expected somebody to fling an entire StarShip so precisely with a tractor beam that it skids by and tears a chunk of the Titan's hull. That's new to JLP and most people.
+ Maybe deep down, Shaw also has the same problem as JLP and wanted a wife & kid. So he can relate.
+ Also, I love the fact that Seven had to lecture Shaw on how he wanted to be remembered by history: as the Captain who let two legends die, or the one who saved them. That finally opened his eyes and stop being so "By the Book".
+ I don't think Vadic really cares about JLP, she seems to be the modern day equivalent of a hybrid of "Space Pirate" & "Bounty Hunter". She has no loyalty to any government, she's her own boss.

Let me get this straight:
Raffi's ex-husband in an ex-drug addict and ex-conspiracy theorist who now runs an underground bar for criminals on M'talas Prime, the same planet where Raffi is investigating the stolen weapons and the attack on the Starfleet recruitment center. What a coincidence!
Raffi's ex-husband has connections to Sneed, the crime lord who brokered the weapons deal with the terrorist who destroyed the recruitment center. What a coincidence!
And now she is using him to get to Sneed. This is world-class writing right here.

The scenes on the La Sirena with Raffi, having to watch her lamenting at the screen, were grueling.

Fenris Rangers VS Robin Hood-style Doctors Without Borders VS bounty hunters...
Whatever, this is all tiresome.

I don't like Jack Crusher.
The reveal at the end. Pure cringe.

The writers can't keep their own story straight.
Title card: "Two weeks ago"
Jack Crusher: "We've been running for months"

Handheld shaky cam galore.

2/10

I liked this episode better than the first one.

Especially the scene between Crusher and Picard on the bridge of the Titan got me teared up. We all know they would go there. I thought they would drag it out for a few more episodes, but glad they didn't.

Still wondering if there's a Picard/Pulaski child out there though...

Pros: I actually am really starting to like Shaw. An interesting introduction to Vadic. Really liked Raffi this week. I’m VERY glad that they pulled back on the references from last week. That felt much better in that regard.

Cons: The plot was predictable and probably could have taken 10 minutes as opposed to a whole hour. A little soapy with the Jack reveal. I know it’s likely going to be a stand-out moment for some but I’m over Worf. His intro, of course, had to be the Goldsmith Klingon theme blaring with the “man of few words” mentality. Ugh. What is it with Picard sitting in every scene? The camera moves in the turbo lift we’re just awkward. While Vadic was interesting, her description of the Shrike was really awkward.

Generally, the episode was fine. Serviceable even. I voted 7/10 but after some thought, think it’s more of a 6/10.

Yeah, I totally get her feeling, reminds me of 9/11 and how we all felt.

I can only hope that JLP & Pulaski got it on somewhere off-screen during S2 and she secretly had a kid and didn't tell JLP about it for all these years.

And then her hiding this son from Picard? She basically deprived Picard of his wish to have a family as shown in Generations in the Nexus. How could she do that to him?

The rejuvenating effects on Ba'ku planet might've had something to do with it. But yes, that's pretty cruel of her. They better have a very good explanation or it's character assassination in my book.

No, I think it is consistent. Jack mentions running from Klingons and others earlier. So they were running for months. The "two weeks" scene was the simply the last most recent one.

After the title card ("two weeks ago") we saw how he got intercepted by the Fenris Rangers.
He said, "First it was Fenris Rangers, then Klingons".

This ep had lots of good scenes.

Good
Raffi arguing with her handler. Yeah, you could see her anger and desire to pursue the attackers. As others said, I remember the anger after the 9-11 attacks. You can't let go.
Titan coming in and severing the tractor beam. Very cool.
Shrike throwing the Elios at the Titan. Also very cool.
Vadic intro, definitely channeling Chang. Similar scene chewing.
Worf intro. That was bad ass. And I loved the Klingon theme.
The scene between Bev and Picard with no words spoken with the big reveal "he's my son". We all guessed it but the scene was powerfully done.

Bad
Raffi with her ex.

I can see how some might not like the soap opera quality of giving Picard a son. And yes, the ep could have done in half the time. But jumping back and forth between the Titan plot and the Raffi plot, kept things engaging.

Another nitpick, when they read off the weapons on the Shrike, it kind of reminded me of the Scimitar in Nemesis. It does feel cliche that the villain ship has to be some uber ship with a gazillion weapons. Just saying 20 torpedo tubes would be plenty powerful. You don't need to say 200 torpedoes this and 300 missiles that to convey the ship is powerful. It's over the top. Plus, it creates a plot hole and how the Titan will ever survive if Vadic actually did use all the weapons. The villain basically has to hold back to give our heroes a fighting chance which is a cliche.

Yes, the writing might be predictable but I think they easily make up for it with just really entertaining and exciting scenes, with great score too.It was just fun and engaging from start to finish.

But I still gave the ep a 10 because it was so entertaining and fun.
