I can't get that worked up about Jack Crusher for his own sake; half of the Picard/Bev Crusher 'shippers give them a kid, why not Matalas? My doubt is all centered around how they can possibly explain him without damaging Beverly's character.
Why would having a son with JLP damage Beverly's character?
The leaked son character casting call thingy from a few years ago said the son was "in his early 20s". Going by this I'm guessing people are simply supposed to believe that he is just that, despite the actor looking a bit older.
Let's go with Ed Speleers real age, 34 y/o.
Let's say he wasn't born right after Nemesis, but during that 1 year that Beverly was away and head of StarFleet Medical.
That should be close enough to account for the age of Jack/Ed.
He should be in his late 20's / early 30's.
Not as strong as last week, however Worf knows how to make an entrance. The unspoken dialogue between Picard and Crusher was powerful but I’ve never been a fan of the Scrappy Doo Picard idea. I hope it’s explained WELL. Also why do villains always give people time? Still looking forward to more.
Because she's not afraid of the USS Titan.
It's a "Puny little ship" in comparison of size / fire power / etc compared to her ship.
She's confident enough to lower the shields to make let StarFleet scan them and not take a trick shot during that vulnerable moment.
I am also disappointed in learning Jack is Picard's son. I didn't realize I would be. If he was born when Crusher was away in S2 of TNG, when the hell did the two hook up? And how does it make sense with episodes like "Allegiance" and "Attached"? And if it's they hooked up between episodes and the real issue was emotional connection between them and not sex, how is that satisfying to the whining Genwunners who hate everything?
Maybe Beverly & JLP hooked up during the events of "
The Naked Now"
That was S1 Ep 3.
Beverly was gone for S2, and back for S3.
ST:TNG S2 took place in 2365
ST:PIC S3 takes place in 2401
That's a 36 year time gap.
Assuming Beverly gave birth near the early part of S2 or later part of S2.
The age of Jack Crusher could be 35/36 y/o.
That should match with 34 y/o Ed Speleers who portrays Jack Crusher.
+ The shot of the Titan warping in to sever the tractor beam was awesome. Awesome job by Ensign LaForge, that had to be tricky.
- When they revealed that Jack was something of a con man I was hoping that meant he wasn't even Beverly's son, much less Picard's....and then they just revealed that's exactly who he was anyway. Meh.
+ Was surprising to see that level of gore, but Worf chopping those dudes up was badass. I feel like they're trying to make up for all those times Worf was used as the proverbial punching bag in TNG.
- Not sure why they keep having Picard seem so bewildered. "What did she just do." Uh...did you not have the same view out the viewscreen that everyone else did?
+ I loved that Shaw immediately went with the plan to protect Jack the moment he learned that he's Picard's son. He may be a cranky curmudgeon but he's not a total dick.
+ Vadic wasn't what I expected from the trailers and I'm for one glad to see she doesn't have some personal vendetta against Picard (as far as we know). The closest I can remember to her particular demeanor was Eric Bana's casual delivery of "Hello Christopher, I'm Nero." in ST09. Somehow a villain who is finding joy and glee in being the villain is much more threatening than the standard mustache-twirling, sinister bad guy routine. I only wish her crew wasn't comprised of yet more faceless minions.
+ The sound design has been on point so far. I particularly enjoyed the TUC-style viewscreen sound effect, and the LCARS and transporter sounds have been very TNG.
+ Ensign LaForge gets huge kudos for spot on location for emerging from Warp.
+ I definitely love the part where they flung the Eleos at the Titan.
More proof that with enough Kinetic energy damage, you can over power shields through brute force alone. Quite the move by Captain Vadic. Also loved Ensign LaForge having to explain that to Captain Shaw.
+ Worf finally getting to be super badass and chop off some heads, all those years of him being a meme and the "Worf Effect" trope gets named after him. Now he gets a measure of awesomeness by saving raffi.
+ I don't think JLP expected somebody to fling an entire StarShip so precisely with a tractor beam that it skids by and tears a chunk of the Titan's hull. That's new to JLP and most people.
+ Maybe deep down, Shaw also has the same problem as JLP and wanted a wife & kid. So he can relate.
+ Also, I love the fact that Seven had to lecture Shaw on how he wanted to be remembered by history: as the Captain who let two legends die, or the one who saved them. That finally opened his eyes and stop being so "By the Book".
+ I don't think Vadic really cares about JLP, she seems to be the modern day equivalent of a hybrid of "Space Pirate" & "Bounty Hunter". She has no loyalty to any government, she's her own boss.
