The Flash - Final Season Discussion

Interestingly Red Death was mentioned in season 5 at the Flash Museum by Robert Picardo himself.

I have mixed feelings about Caitlin. I loved Caitlin and Panabaker brought a lot to the role. This is the final season of the show and I feel like they really did Caitlin a disservice. They tossed her aside for a new character so they can talk about identity again, and now it's only Joe, Iris, and Barry that were part of the original Flash team.

I haven't read the comics so I don't know who Red Death is, but was he supposed to be the reincarnation of Zoom? It sounded very Zoom like, and I like that they are bringing Zoom back in some form.

After years of not doing it I wonder why for the final season, the final 13 episodes they changed the aspect ration to 2:1. Wonder what the behind the scenes reasoning for that is.

I'm almost certain the Fiddler referred to 'Red Death' as "Lady" in one scene.
Last season there was a mention of a future Flash villain, referred to as the Lady in Red (or Red Lady?).

Comic spoilers

He was from one of the universes in the 'Dark Multiverse', which is a dark reflection of the main multiverse.

In that universe Batman snapped after not being able to beat crime and wanted Flash's powers for himself. He did this by hooking up one of his bat vehicles to the Cosmic Treadmill, strapped the Flash to front of it, and driving into the speed force. It merged the two characters, with Batman being the dominate personality, and the Flash remaining as a voice in his head

I'm curious how much of the backstory the Flash TV version will borrow.

They came to the right decision in the end, but it's frustrating that it took Team Flash the whole episode to realize that it should be Snow/Khione's right to decide what happens to her mind and body, instead of other people choosing for her. That should be the default position going in.

It's weird that the gang looked at someone who appeared to be Caitlin with blue streaks in her hair and somehow concluded "That's not Caitlin" rather than just complimenting her on her new do. It's also weird that they talked about Caitlin being dead when her breathing, functioning body is right there. It's more like she's lost her memory and gained another alternate personality.

I like Khione's open, exuberant personality, which goes well on Danielle Panabaker. (I'm reminded of her first role I was aware of, Layla in Sky High.) But what are they going to do for medical expertise now that Caitlin's gone? I was wondering if Hartley was going to take over that role somehow, but he's a physicist, not a physician. (Weird how two nearly identical words refer to completely different disciplines.)

I was getting Illyria from Angel vibes from her with the blue hair. I expect she was the one making it rain.

I like the credit scene. That’s obviously a reference to:

I doubt it. I think that was just pathetic-fallacy symbolism to resonate with Caitlin's "death." If Khione has any powers, I suspect they're more along the lines of empathy, given how keenly she read Hartley's emotions. Although I'm not sure, given that it would overlap with Cecile's telepathy.

I like the credit scene.

I think those were outtakes rather than a canonical scene, like how Hong Kong martial-arts movies show outtakes alongside the end credits. I wonder if they'll keep doing that or if it was just for this occasion.

Having just rewatched Angel, the only connection to Illyria I could see was the blue hair. This seemed more in comparison to Tuvix and what if Janeway had allowed Tuvix to live. Khione (Is that the official spelling, I was a little confused last night, because I thought they kept saying Khio) is an entirely new character while Illyria was already established as being an old one who wanted her Kingdom to return.

The symbol on Red Death's suit should give you a clue.

Yes, it is. It was established back in season 5 that Khione was the name Caitlin's father originally gave to her Frost personality.

It's the Batman symbol (Thank you for the backstory) but it sounded like Zoom. Was that Tony Todd providing the voice?

The voice is uncredited, but I think it's already been spoiled in the news who it's going to turn out to be. It sounds to me like a female voice processed to sound deep and growly.

They did officially announce someone but I bet you it’s a red herring. Like who was playing Jay in season 2.

I found it funny that when Chester (I think) walked in to the break room he instantly said "That's not Caitlyn"
What just because she has blue in her hair you assume she's a different person?

Or she seemed different to him. It’s quite common for people to sense something is different or wrong with someone they know well. Can be change in mannerism, a look, a behaviour.

It’s also a well established trope in entertainment.

Even so, there's a big leap from "something is different with this person" to "this is a completely different person who looks identical aside from hairstyle."

Just got caught up with the last episode.

Literally deleting Caitlyn and Frost was moronic in general, doing it in the last season of the show might just be the stupidest writing decision that The Flash has ever made, and considering how bad its been since around Season 4, thats fairly impressive. If this wasn't the last season, I'd literally drop it just for that. As it is, I'll probably just skip past any parts with fake Snow (I'm not bothering to figure out that new name).

I was surprised to see Hartley, mostly because I forgot that the show had even introduced Pied Piper. He basically kills Caitlyn and Frost in this episode, so fuck him.

Overall, what a huge "fuck you" to the fans. This is going to be a rough season, The Flash writers/producer(s) are just the worst. At least Arrow actually tried to go out on a good note.

Could have been worse. They could have merged Caitlyn with a double from another world who looked different and then brought on a new actor to play the role.
