PIC S3 Ships & Tech

The Stargazer is definitely my favourite 25th century ship. The Inquiry is ok, even if only so, especially with these modifications, I never warmed up to the Odyssey (but perhaps I will now?).

Might have been pointed out in the thread already, but we saw an actual phaser beam come from a ship in the last trailer, not a pew pew phaser bolt.

I like the Inquiry-class. It seems like a logical evolution from those "post-TNG" ships we see in First Contact to "post-post-TNG" ships. It looks fast and powerful and solid, and the improved deflector makes the world of difference. Rather this than some of the terrible Star Trek Online designs that are sneaking into the show!

Personally, I find the Inquiry class dull and industrial. A great, honking slab of starship with no artistry whatsoever. A lot of STO ships share that problem.
I do, however, like ships like the Odyssey and its varients, the Grissom (Oberth reskin), the Shran-class escort, etc. A lot of the alien ships are pretty good as well, such as most of the Romulans and the Tzenkethi. Most of the Klingon ships, however, need work, as do some of the Starfleet ones. STO is very "hit or miss" when it comes to ship designs.

Which means those dents won't just buff out and require a trip to a starbase :) As I wrote, the level of damage is still primarily surface level . There are fires burning but it isn't fatal. Not like an instant destruction. Van Sitters and Cerritos takes hits and the ships are still physically intact ala "Wrath of Khan".

(See Klingon Battlecruiser explode around 2:17)

The Klingon ship in your example was already badly damaged. And your dismissal of the damage suffered by Spacedock and the Ceritos as "fires burning" is understating the case, as the clips I posted show, the interior damage was far more extensive than a few ECODs.

I cannot abide the Odyssey-class. Looks like an affronted duck.

Yes, the Klingon ship had lots of internal damage but she was externally still intact when the phasers completely destroyed her.

The damage suffered by Spacedock and the Cerritos had "fires burning" which do not appear to be any worse than the fire burning on the Reliant at the end of Wrath of Khan. The main difference again is that at the end of Wrath of Khan neither ship is capable of firing full powered weapons. There is not such an excuse in "The Stars at Night" with the Aledo. The clip from Lower Decks shows the top of the unshielded Cerritos hit by a barrage of torpedoes yet none penetrate enough into or spread wide enough to hurt anyone on the bridge. Those fires we see are at worse a deck or two deep.

I see the wide spread use of Ablative Hull Armor has done it's job.

The 23rd Century Titan is a Shangri-La Class Mark II according to Bill Krause.

You can also spot it in this PR shot.

This contradicts the models we saw in Star Trek: Lower Decks, where the 23rd century USS Titan was a Loknar-class starship.

Possible reconciliation:
1. The ships on display aboard the Titan and the Titan-A are selections, not the whole dynasty. That's consistent with those on the Enterprise-D and Enterprise-E.
2. The Loknar-class Titan underwent a refit to Shangri La-class configuration.

3. The producers f-ed up, the same way Filoni did when he had Capt Rex say in Rebels that he never tried to carry out Order 66, but in Clone Wars S7, we saw that he did.

Whether it was there or not, the Aledo stripped Ceritos' hull to the frame in places and caused severe internal damage. Again, evidence against the "weak weapons" theory.

If they were stronger weapons then the bridge crew on the Cerritos would've been rather dead and the episode a few minutes shorter :) Severe internal damage is debatable as there was only a shot or two of a corridor being engulfed.
The Reliant stripped the Enterprise's hull in places and the Enterprise blew off the Reliant's nacelle and all with low powered shots.

So what would be a "weak weapon" hit look like then? How much damage should we see on the Cerritos with her shields down from low-powered phaser or multi-torpedo strikes from the Aledo that just wanted the ship crippled like in Wrath of Khan instead of "burning their heart in a fire"?

Picard S3 cast photos show more detail on the new uniforms for the old crew:

https://blog.trekcore.com/2023/02/star-trek-picard-season-3-cast-photos/

Starfleet has finally gone full leather. I wonder what circumstance will pour our heroes into these tanned hides? Everyone on the Titan is keeping the uniforms introduced last season, though Riker seems to be wearing yet another uniform style at some point. At least we finally get a clear enough view that Geordi isn't wearing an apron like the earlier pictures suggested. And I like how the rank pips are arranged vertically this time, while also leaving room for better application of flag rank pins that don't curve off of the wearer's necks like the Admiral pins do. Perhaps these are all Captain's jackets like Picard and Kirk had at one time or another? I mean most of them ARE Captain rank or higher.

Edit: LaForge is wearing a cloth version of the leather jacket when he comms in from whatever ship he's on (probably that smaller starship whose nacelle explodes in the last trailer, but PLEASE could it be the Enterprise-F?). So maybe the leather duds are more like field jackets?

Moving on, I think I found the basis of Dr. Crusher's ship from the trailer. And it's another STO import.

Nope. Crusher's ship is based on this John Eaves concept art from several years ago for an earlier version of Star Trek Online:

PIC just made the deflector smaller and added the strut between the nacelles for the Aleos.

It's not really a contradiction. The Loknar was from the TOS era; the Shangri-la was from the TMP era. There's no reason not to assume that the Loknar Titan was decommissioned and the Shangri-la was its replacement.
