Will Sam Beckett Return Home? NBC Orders Quantum Leap Reboot Pilot

But it doesn't make sense for some of these rules to be different if it's suppose to be in the same continuity as the old show. Granted if God is helping the leapers then I guess God can change the rules anytime he wants.

1. This is a different universe with different rules. The TV Show as we saw 30 years ago never happened and it's not these people's history, even if it's a very similar history.
2. There is still a waiting room, but most of the command staff are pretending it doesn't exist any more because there is someone in the control room who isn't trustworthy enough to know about the waiting room.

If they were using the old tech at the original project I'd agree with you, but this is a new accelerator and imaging chamber built by different people.

Magic is a character from the original show.

He said that he did not go to a waiting room in the future, when Sam leaped into his aura.

Sam asked Magic to take a nap, so he took a nap.

They've already made it pretty clear that the new PQL has different 'rules' to the old one, so just add this to the list. :)

Wasn't that in the Waiting Room?

yeah pretty sure it was - it was a blue room and oswald was sitting on this white object (not a bench, not a table and not something you'd really want to lie on).

That's what I meant. The glossary of terms is still confusing 30 years later.

Admiral Williams' recollections don't directly contradict the idea that the old project had a waiting room. In the classic series Al makes several mentions of leapees who remained totally non-communicative or unconscious while in the future. Angela Jensen from 'Revenge of the Evil Leaper' was awake but non-responsive, for example. Typically the leapees were Swiss Cheesed in the details department but conscious and chatty, whenever that would help the story. Changes your pay scale if you have dialog, after all.

I personally feel the new series is shooting itself in the foot dramatically by doing away with the option of the waiting room. Will we nevermore have a dynamite scene like Al counselling Arnold in 'Return of the Evil Leaper'?? But, who am I to say? If Ian's memories can turn on a dime, then the existence of entirely new histories with entirely new rules and entirely new rooms are only a Butterfly Ben wing flap away anytime Addison steps out of the Imaging Chamber.

With no waiting room then where did Ben's body go to? My theory is if you leap now you original body just goes away. Meaning you are trapped forever in Leap limbo. And if you stopped leaping it only means you would forever take control of someones body you leaped into and never give it back.

Apparently the thinking behind the scenes is that Ben and the leapee simply merge. Or are quantum entangled. Or superimposed.

Ben's Body is having the adventures we see.

An aura, an electromagnetic field, is wrapped around the leaper, so that they look like the person they leap into.

Evil Leaper Carolyne Seymour, suddenly in the a male body, FOR SCIENCE decided that she must rape some female prisoners at the prison she was in charge of.

Seriously?

Am I remembering that wrong?

It's a female prison in the past, half the women in there are there for killing the man that raped them or for prostitution.

Consent cost 60 dollars in 1987.

Posting for a couple of reasons.
1. Loved the details we got in this week’s episode about why Ben leaped. I won’t spoil it but the reveal at the end when Magic goes back to speak to Dottie made me go “Wow!”.
2. Reading some recent posts about the waiting room made me feel vindicated. I also had the same question from the beginning of Nu QL. When Magic tells Ian about his leap experience he doesn’t mention the waiting room. Also, I saw this article over at Syfy that talks about the missing waiting room. IIRC, the waiting room was introduced later in the original series. So I kinda wonder if the reboot is just ignoring it which Magic’s story leads me to believe. I’ve got some other theories, but this one seems most likely to me.

Or he just doesn't remember it once he leaps back into his own body. Which was always the assumption anyway, that most if not all memories of the future don't stick.

In the finale of the original series, Sam leapt and no one appeared in the Waiting Room because Sam or God/Time/Whoever changed the way leaping worked. Maybe it stayed that way.

That's how they did with the old show but with Ben I think it's just his mind that is leaping. Like when he was the boxer he had the muscles and reflexes of a boxer. He just didn't know any moves. Interesting enough this was also the approach they took with QL novels about Sam. I recall one story were I think he leaped into a kid and because he was a kid a adult was able to grab him or push down easy and he felt helpless because of the body he was in.

Classic QL portrayed the leaps fairly consistently as Sam’s body having leaped, but inconsistently portrayed the minute details of it. Strangely, the QL novels consistently portray Sam’s mind having leaped, and his body remaining in the future but comatose.

ik okay with the new show portrays their own rules ( and retroactively how the classic one worked) as long as they remain consistent about it. We’re far less forgiving as an audience that we were thirty years ago.

Just remember a point from the recent time loop episode.

When the first explosion happen, they showed a screen with Ben’s vitals flat lining .
so either Ziggy has extra abilities this time around or his body is still in the accelerator.
