How long have you lived where you live now?

I was wondering since I've been in the same address for some time, how long have you been living in the same place?

I moved, or was moved, to my current home at the age of 5 in December 1987 so that's 35 years and counting.

I bought my house in October of '98.

Never looked back.

The only, and I do mean only, thing I miss about living in an apartment is not having to shovel snow. I definitely DON'T miss flushing rent money down the toilet every :censored:ing month. Because that's exactly what rent is.

Well, it depends on what you personally value. Sure, when you rent you're not building equity. On the other hand, you're not responsible for household repairs and maintenance, gardening, plumbing and electrical issues, or repairing/replacing broken appliances. The landlord takes care of all that. (At least he's supposed to.)

We've lived in the same apartment complex since we moved to Texas seven years ago this June. We just moved in our third unit this past fall. The unit we had before this one was the longest we've had( a bit over four years), and for me including the ones I had in my bachelor days. The longest I've lived in one place, is the house I grew up in. I'd love to live in the same residence for ten years.

I kinda like how we have been in the same city, and the same neighborhood for seven years, after moving every two or three years since my undergrad days, which bothers me a bit.

The missus is adamant that this is the last apartment. She wants rental houses once we are done with our certification programs. I'm really done with gated places. The gate always breaks and isn't always reliable. At least it never had the issue my old apartment in Cincinnati had where it wouldn't let people leave the apartment complex (fortunately, it didn't happen to me personally).

I'll gladly take that risk. At least it means I have a house, I have property, I have things of VALUE.

You stop paying the rent on an apartment, you're left with sweet diddly squat.

Also: With a house, the mortgage will eventually end. I paid mine off five years ago. Yes, I still have to pay property tax, but at least there are no more monthly payments. That alone counts for a lot (my property tax is a fair bit less than what a year's worth of mortgage payments was).

Moved into our current house last February, so it hasn't even been a year yet. We lived in our last house for about 16 years.

Rented a condo in Huntington Beach, CA. for 29 years. In 2021 my landlord got divorced and had to liquidate his assets, so we had 90 days to find a new place and move (and I'm disabled and homebound, so all my nedical equipment had to go too, or be replaced).

Purchased a mobile home in Las Vegas and moved here in August, 2021, so going on a year and a half. Living the glamorous life.

We bought the house we live in now 18 years ago.

Our original intention was to live here 5 years and trade up. The housing crash of 2009 put an end to that.

We’ll live here for the rest of our lives.

We moved to NC from Illinois 34 years ago. I never expected to stay here this long, and it was a culture shock in the beginning, but it has worked out rather well.

Four years in the current house, five years in Hawaii total.

I’m not planning on going back to the Mainland ever again, except to visit. Too much silly drama…

Cheers,

37 years thus far. Never owned the place, but until the last couple of years, I felt it was "mine" by family ties. Before that, being part of a civil service family meant no real ties to anywhere I ended up living. Even if we stayed in the same town/city for more than, say, two years...we could end up changing neighbourhoods or schools at the drop of anyone's hat.

Now? Not so certain of those relationships anymore. Not going to explain further.

It'll be 15 years in May, the longest I've been in any one place and more than double the previous times. Was starting to look for a place for me and my wife to call our own in early 2020, but we all know what happened then.

That little dust-up between the Romans and the Garamantes? Yeah, rough times, rough times.

I kid, I kid. I'm sorry. It's been a difficult few days, and my weird sense of humour is acting up.

It was great for me. I was selling arms to both sides.

I too have a weird sense of humor.
