DISCO was the flagship program on the new streaming service. I have a hard time believing that that would have happened without the success of STXI+.
I do not think DSC gets made if the Kelvinverse films had not been successful.

The bottom third is not the same as no third. And I can't respect people like that.I have to be honest, but I don't see nearly as much "STD iZ TeH WoKe!!!1!" stuff out there as some of you are claiming. I see a lot of people griping about a lot of stuff, but honestly, that seems to be in the bottom 1/3 of reasons I see commonly sited across the wonderful internet.
Those I disagree with, but that's as far as it goes. Unless they cop an attitude. Then I don't have an issue with their complaints, I have an issue with their attitude.I see lot of complaints about the writing, about the characters, about continuity, and about the inability of the serialized plotlines to be paced or end on a satisfying note for people far more than I see these kinds of complaints.

I'm deeply disappointed with this place right now. Not you.
The reaction to the PIC Season 3 Trailer. The first three pages were okay, then it became a seven-page cesspit. That was not what I was expecting. They say they can't see the trailer because it's dark literally. I think they can't see the trailer because their bile, bitterness, and jadedness keeps them from seeing it metaphorically. The way they act is darker than anything I've seen in the trailer. They complain about darkness, but they're the ones who are dark. I thought I'd seen it all.
I joined this board to talk to people who are excited about Star Trek, not to people who want to trash it every chance they get. That's not a fan. That's an anti-fan.
Okay. Please don’t import that stuff to this forum.
I am keen for a Section 31 based show. I really am and I like spy stuff in general so I'm down with that.
And even the small amount of ST fans still far outnumber a lot of other attempted revivals of other I.P.s. STAR TREK is one of the highest grossing franchises ever.
(The fanbase was small for ENT, true. But I don't think the fanbase as a whole shrunk that much. Not when you have conventions and products being sold over the years since ENT ended.)
The phrase 'absence makes the heart grow fonder' truly applies to STAR TREK. A break was needed to bring it back to life again. Even if 09 failed, there would be a new series on at some point. We simply got it faster.
Ok. Hopefully the show shows it's being undone. This isn't about deserved. It's about intrigue and interest and the line of moral grayness. That's what intrigues me more that the strict black and white. The only Section 31 material I'd like to see...is its destruction.
Those who want a Trek spy show, let it be Starfleet Intelligence. They're the only legitimate "spy" organization Starfleet has.
If Starfleet Intelligence can't get it done, it doesn't deserve to get done.
I'm keen to see this gray area of Star Trek, and perhaps a little more out on the frontier.I am keen for a Section 31 based show. I really am and I like spy stuff in general so I'm down with that.
Whereas I'm very jaded and find it comforting in a twisted way that Starfleet and the Federation aren't anywhere near as high minded as they pretend to be. Real life doesn't work like that and neither does Star Trek's.If Starfleet Intelligence can't get it done, it doesn't deserve to get done.
I don't know how much of it has to do with how dark a place I was in for the last several years, but "NuTrek" optimism has been a literal lifeline for me. I've seen stories of overcoming, of redemption, of making one's own way against the odds. DSC, PIC, PRO, SNW, and even LD have reminded me why I loved Star Trek in the first place and have gradually rebuilt my hope that humanity will survive and that we deserve to. They've helped me come back from a place of cynicism to where I'm willing to have hope again. And yes, inspire me to work towards that future.Maybe this is simply an observation, not a controversial opinion, but it strikes me that Star Trek as a whole is no longer associated with an optimistic view of the future, it’s just run of the mill entertainment. No one is inspired to make the Roddenberry vision a reality.
I have been on both sides of this. I don't think Trek got more cynical or less optimistic but that it became more honest about the realities of conflict and that humanity was not just going to "evolve" in the 24th century, even with newer tech. We have seen that newer tech is a double edged sword that it alloys for easier connectivity but struggles with personal care, or feeling more overwhelmed with data. Human behavior, to quote ENT, is pretty stubborn and not going to change over night.I don't know how much of it has to do with how dark a place I was in for the last several years, but "NuTrek" optimism has been a literal lifeline for me. My $0.02.
And what about Discovery? That show got attacked, still gets attacked and has constantly been the victim of "That's not Star Trek, it's too woke and forced diversity agenda" and that is something I keep seeing online and the pile ons and gatekeeping from both sides of that argument.
Oh, and PRO might now be my second fave Trek show evah.
Yeah, I kinda hated DSC so I stopped watching.

I'm in for a Star Trek spy show only if it stars Bashir and Garak

Utopia is not a location to arrive at, but rather an ideal to constantly strive for.
