There are these new things called carpets, they're like clothes for the floor and come in different colors and patterns, maybe they should try one of those.
You do realize that the cat, being a cat, while normally gravitating towards rugs/carpets, will continue to sit/lay on the floor.
Depends on the depth/width of the scratches and type of wood. Old English isn't too bad--there's also furniture markers for very thin scratches or nicks.
I used to play with my cat Charlie with hair ties. She would sit on the top of the couch next to the hallway and I'd know what game she wanted to play. I'd go down the hall as she'd peer around the corner. I'd shoot the hair tie at her and most of the time she would hit it back at me. The rest of the time she would fetch it. I really miss her.
