SPOILERS: New TARDIS interior leaks!

Anyone else think the bit in the Time Rotor looks like the prop in the first few seconds here?

That prop got reused in a load of classic American SF so I wouldn't be surprised if this is a homage.
I think legally they can only use that prop with both tubes.

Me too. Fantastic, gorgeous set. It was a perfect merger of the "high-tech sci-fi spaceship control center" vibe of the original-series console rooms and the "cozy Victorian study/library" vibe of the TV movie console room, with a bit of the "hey, you can see the police box door from the inside" aspect of the Cushing console room and the spaciousness and central raised platform of most of the modern console rooms. It had the best balance of all the elements. I wasn't as fond of the more organic-looking RTD-era and Whittaker console rooms, or the first Smith console room that looked like something out of Dr. Seuss.
Agreed…it matched Capadi’s incarnation as well…both very serious. We first got some of that set with Matt…and it’s somber tone matched Smith’s sadder mood.

My favorite set was the all wood set Tom used just once, though. A coffin for a departing companion, no?

This set harks back to the early 80’s…but I wonder if the fish-bowl containment look might imply something. There is a…captive look here.

One thing I would love to see done is a fade/bleed to a small camera, which backs away revealing other cameras and the set as it is…deserted streets…and…very like the arch from TNG, we see the TARDIS doors hovering in mid-air. Tennant climbs, dives through…to face—The Doctor.

Gatwa asks “How did you get out?” and the GoPro turns——-and we see the Valyard.

I feel David’s return is false somehow…just from the vibe of that bowl-like set. Too good…too perfect…too bright…

Look to see if he does anything out of character.

If by "just once" you mean for one full season, the fourteenth: http://thedoctorwhosite.co.uk/tardis/interior/season-14-interior/

As I understand it, it came about because two different unions at the BBC (I think it was props and special effects) kept insisting the console was the other guys' responsibility, and there was a lot of infighting over it. So in Baker's first season, they avoided showing any TARDIS interiors at all (which was weird for me, since it was the first season I saw), and in season 13, they introduced a brand-new console but used it maybe twice, before introducing the simpler "Victorian" console room, whose console had no moving parts. They must've finally gotten it worked out by season 15.

I always liked this console room.

Smith's second/Capaldi's console room mainly happened due to the increase in funds the show got for the fiftieth anniversary, though I'm sure the constant complaints about how Smith's first console room was difficult to film on also played a factor.
No.

It was primarily because they were changing studio space and due to the way the console room set was built it couldn't be moved so a new one had to be built in the new space. And rather than try to recreate the room introduced in "The Eleventh Hour" they opted for a new design by the late Michael Pickwoad who was the Production designer at the time.

I like it. I’ve taken to calling it the “Autopia” console room, after the Disney ride, on account of all its ramps and curves much like the theme park attraction.

These Twitter mockups really help with the mood potential of the set - you can light a stark white riom in many different ways so I’m expecting a lot of this, as well as the round things bring individually lit and computer controlled for all sorts of cool patterns like in a gaming keyboard. RTD said his 9th Doctor TARDIS was supposed to look centuries old and lived-in like an old VW van - jerry rigged on account of no Gallifrey to go to for a tune up, and a result of the Doc never really reading the owners manual when making repairs. Later show runners abandon this concept and RTD doesn’t look to be returning to it, which is okay by me.

The idea is that the console room seems suspended in a kind of void-like limbo when at rest. When in flight, the Doctor and companions can see the time vortex as they tear through it. Actually, I tried depicting inner walls festooned with roundels plunging into the depths below and soaring to the heights above, but it they just didn't look decent, so I opted for the "void" theme.

Just wanted to say your design is awesome. It's a bit like the Stellar Cartography set in Star Trek Generations, but taken up a couple of notches and would look fantastic. Maybe some of the more advanced War TARDISes during the Time War had console rooms like this. The Doctor, of course, goes with the old familiar. :)

Wasn't the '96 TV movie console room sort of like that, with the vortex/exterior visible in the ceiling?

It just occurred to me that I can't remember if I've ever seen the word "roundel" used in any context other than descriptions of the TARDIS walls. Probably somewhere, but if so, I don't recall.

It's a very commonly used term for the (mostly) circular national symbol used on military aircraft or often in heraldry. The symbol on Captain America's shield or the logo for the Target (department store) Corporation are also examples of roundels.

Didn’t they imply he spent some time in ther by having a Pertwee Jacket hanging on a chair when he first found it.

Yes, and the Second Doctor's recorder.

I remember as a young Whovian who was aware of the previous Doctors but had never seen any of their episodes, I had assumed this was the control room in use during that era of the show. I was oddly disappointed when I found that the normal "white" control room was the regular one then too.

I like it, very sci-fi advanced civilisationish. The bigger budget is showing here.

I’m glad to see that it seems the specials will have a new console room. I wondered if they’d just stick with the crystal console for budget purposes. Guess they’re willing to give RTD whatever he wants to revitalize the franchise. Yay!!! I agree with a previous poster, the console used in Matt Smith’s final season and by Peter Capaldi was my favorite. I didn’t really care for the coral, steampunk, or crystal consoles. I grew up with classic Who so I’ve been longing for something closer to the OG console room. Looks like it may be happening.
New studio, so probably cheaper to build a new set there than transfer the existing one.
