That optimism is central to the show's version of the character and one of the things that most endears her to me, so ....

That's fine. I loved everything about the show but that was the one thing I found a bit not bad, but it just grated on me a little.

First time around I wasn't in love with season 4..... But I gave it another go and enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. I guess I'm like Kara in some ways with the optimism. Part of me wanted a redemption arc for Lockwood and yes I know people would have HATED that but that's how I felt the second time around.

Season 5 was OK but 6 was shite

Yeah, sadly the show enters a sharp decline after the splendid fourth season. Even Cryer can't save the likes of the Leviathan muddle and whatever foolishness that final season was supposed to be.

Yeah, the optimism is one of the things I've really liked about the show and Supergirl's character, and it's something I very much appreciated. It harkens back to the spirit of the Christopher Reeve movies. I can't remember when I stopped watching, but it might have been after either the 4th or 5th season. It was when they really started leaning into the crossovers that they lost me. Plus the writing from around that time just left me feeling frustrated over the show's direction.
