What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

Controversial opinion: even if you cast someone else as the princess in "PRECIOUS CARGO", the episode would still be a clunker. (Mind you, it could have improved a bit, but this episode was just awful.)

But... if a better actress were cast, I would no longer put it below "THESE ARE THE VOYAGES...".

TATV wouldn't have been that bad if they had...
1. Set it in 2155. The kid could be Shran's niece or something.
2. Didn't kill Trip.
3. Make it anything other than the series finale.

That's controversial? The actor isn't the biggest problem of that episode by a mile. There are many examples of garbage Trek episodes that even good actors couldn't save. The biggest problem of this episode is the writers, Berbraga should have hired a good writer instead of... oh well.

Threshold is a good example of how perfectly fine acting (plus good makeup) couldn't save a terrible episode

Controversial Opinion:

BEY is a fine Star Trek movie. I generally feel it’s on about the same level as putting on a random mid-season baseball game between two teams I don’t care about while I do other things.

ID was wildly entertaining until the last 25-30 min where it miraculously transforms into the worst pile of shit imaginable

I have to admit, kicking the reactor scene was garbage

Everything from the moment Spock yells “Khan!” To the end credits is garbage.

  • Kirk dying and being resurrected in an undramatically short amount of time later, due to augment blood
  • The Vengeance crashing into the city
  • Spock chasing Khan through the city at a dizzying, video-game like pace
  • Spock and Khan fighting on the floating thing...Spock punching Khan over and over again like a deranged psycho (seriously, I think there's more punching in this movie than in Rocky IV)
  • Uhura beaming down and shooting Khan over and over again
  • Kirk's final, unbelievably shallow and contrived speech at the memorial service

...such a bad last act to an otherwise pretty entertaining film.

That's actually my favourite part of the episode. In a hilarious "so deranged it's good" way, I can enjoy watching a completely unhinged Trek episode if it's funny. But the rest of the episode is just so ****ing boring, not even salamander sex could save it.

Funny how sex seems to be prominent in some of Trek's most awful episodes. Sub Rosa, Threshold, Profit and Lace, A Night in Sickbay...

Maybe... "Fair Haven" was at least worth seeing for the scene where Janeway deletes the wife. The way Kate Mulgrew says those words...

I like it when Voyager does goofy holodeck adventures, be it Fair Haven, Captain Proton, Sandrine's or Janeway's gothic holonovel. It makes sense to me that a crew stranded for away from home would use the holodeck more often and in more creative ways than a ship closer to Earth.
