Call to Arms - What was it like?

His genetically enhanced storyline did pave the way for Sloan to try to recruit him into Section 31.

And that, in turn, gave us "INTER ARMA ENIM SILENT LEGES". Whether you like the idea of Section 31 or not, casting William Sadler is never a bad decision, and that episode had superb dialogue and some amazing twists and turns.

I'm not crazy about the "enhanced Bashir" plot. (Neither was Siddig.)
That is overstating the matter. Sid hated being blindsided by the change in character and being turned into the human calculator, but he loved the genetic engineering storyline, especially in Statistical Probabilities, which allowed his character to be more involved in the central plot and show more pathos.

On the one hand I don't blame him for being annoyed by Sudden Plot Twist!

OTOH, I felt his acting as FauxBashir really telegraphed the fact that he was a Founder (at least in retrospect), and it kind of leaves me feeling as though maybe he's a better actor when he's not aware that his character is engaging in subterfuge. Unless he was told to play it up for "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light", in which case I feel that was a poor decision.

And I watched it on a TV that was 16"x11" and the same day with the VHS of "Worst Case Scenario/Scorpion" so I was very happy. I always think fondly back to this time of Trek.

Ooh get you with your enormous 19" screen. I had a 14"!

My bank balance does not respond well to that era of trek. £30 (in today's money) for 2 episodes of trek. Ouch. Season 7 of DS9 cost me £400 in today's money

Disappointed at the episode or you just didn't like the way the story went?

I watched Statistical Probabilities last night. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed that.

Disappointed that after that build up, the Federation/Klingon alliance was getting their asses kicked.

Yeah, narratively your protagonists whooping @$$ in a war is no way to build stakes.

It's far better to make them the underdogs. It makes stakes and makes you invest more.

And you knew the Dominion were not to be messed with or underestimated when they casually suicide rammed a Galaxy class ship in their first appearance. In a fight they were winning easily anyway. They were always going to be Clubber Lang or Ivan Drago to the Federation's Rocky and that's what is so great about the war arc.

I never expected to hear the Dominion compared to ROCKY villains, but the comparison is apt. Particularly regarding their first appearance in "THE JEM'HADAR".

And we get reminded of this in "TEARS OF THE PROPHETS" when the entire Jem'Hadar attack wing rams into the Klingon ships. Nog's expression is priceless and spot on, and so is Garak's remark right after.

Ugh. A Ferengi episode. The Magnificent Ferengi. Could have been worse. Has been worse.

Waltz. Well, we all know this is amazing and I hope Alaimo appreciated it. (Am I correct in gathering that he didn't?)

Who Mourns for Morn. Proving that a Quark episode is distinct from a Ferengi episode. I love it when O'Brien and Bashir become Rosencrantz and Guildenstern.

I'm not ready for Far Beyond the Stars. Tomorrow, maybe.

Six episodes to In the Pale Moonlight.

You’re wrong about magnificent Ferengi, a great episode

You’re wrong about waltz, an episode that reduces a comped multi-faceted character to a simple “pure evil” bad guy

I suppose it would have been nice if there had ever been any kind of justification for 5 million dead Bajorans. But it wasn't like THIS was the episode that took that away. It was never there. I'm pretty sure it never could have been. And in that regard Dukat was always a monster.
