The latest trailer to the first movie of phase 5 is here. This movie introduces Multiverse Saga big bad Kang the Conqueror played by Jonathan Majors, a variant of whom which we met in the Loki series.

Returning are Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet Pym with Catherine Newton as the third actor to play Cassie Lang. Also returning is director Peyton Reed.

The movie is set to release on February 17th.

Gods, I need this film right now!

Looks like Kang is going to tempt Scott with reclaiming the five years he missed with Cassie, Scott hurting not just because he missed those years, but also because of the type of person Cassie became during his absence during those dark years.

The question is what could Kang possibly need Scott to get for him?

    Also: MODOK!

The only thing I can think of is the only thing he's apparently lacking: A way out of the Quantum Realm and into the Multiverse at large.

And I KNEW that Funko couldn't be MODOK's actual form! :D Dude looks great!

Looks exciting! I wonder if this is actually Kang or just another variant. I'm going to assume he's meant to be this reality's Kang, somehow trapped all this time in the Quantum Realm. Maybe it was intentional, in order to escape and hide from his variants, like He Who Remains was doing, and then something went wrong and it became permanent.

Also, it should be pointed out that isn't the first time Paul Rudd has played two versions of himself! He did so in the underrated Living with Yourself alongside the amazing Aisling Bea. Sadly, we only ever got one season but it's worth checking out.

So...can anyone guess from this screencap who is playing MODOK? Because I'm pretty sure his casting hasn't been announced yet.

Social media is saying the actor is Corey Stoll, who played the villain Yellowjacket from the first Ant-Man.

Oooooh...now that would be an interesting twist. And would explain how and why MODOK is in the Quantum Realm.

Granted it's not a great screencap from a YouTube video, but I don't think that looks like Corey Stoll. But it's hard to make out his features considering so much of his natural head features are cropped out.

I'm just bummed that it's clearly not Patton Oswalt.

It's probably a CGI and voice role like Thanos, not that he's playing the same character who has become MODOK.

That would be silly. Why bring back Corey Stoll in the same series and have him not play the same character who has progressed into something different?

Well he could be playing the same role. Who knows until it actually comes out. But it wouldn't be the first time Marvel double dipped -- Michelle Yeoh, Alfre Woodard, Gemma Chan, Kenneth Choi, Laura Haddock.

Yeah, but none of those were within the same series.

Also, Choi played the grandson of his original character (as evidenced by a photograph in his office).

It took me a few viewings to realize the significance of the "witness the beginning of a new dynasty" tagline.

Witness the beginning of a new hierarchy of dynasty.

I am not the biggest fan of the Ant-Man movies but this looks solid. I've been checking out screenwriter Jeff Loveness Twitter and he seems to have the cleverness and quirkiness to give you hope in a genre movie writer.

Seems to me they've done a good job establishing Kang and the stakes in the trailer for those who might not have seen Loki. His powers and personality are tweaked anyway from the casual version seen in He Who Remains.

He also wrote a couple of really fun comics, including a really heartfelt Groot series, the long-awaited Sam Alexander/Richard Rider Nova series and a limited series starring Spider-Man (where IMO he did a better job writing Spider-Man than the main Spidey writer at the time...).

Hmm. Don't like the blown up and squished Corey Stoll head. Not something I'd normally say but they probably should have gone full CGI on it.

Curious development with the new official synopsis, per Deadline:

The official synopsis of the movie reads, “Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.”

Peyton Reed directs the film and Kevin Feige produces. Other stars include David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O’Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.
What's curious about this is that David Dastmalcian is playing someone named Veb instead of Kurt of the last two films. Perhaps he's a Kurt variant?

Also, we now have names for William Jackson Harper's and Bill Murray's characters. Apparently Krylar is an obscure one-off character who appeared in a 1972 issue of The Incredible Hulk. Nothing on Quaz...although perhaps he's Quasar?

    I'm slightly underwhelmed with this.....

CGI and SFX have always been a big part of the MCU, but lately it's been getting really too much. Even BP2, a movie that at its core was about finding a way out of deep hurt and loss turned into a CGI orgy. This feels like it's going to go the same way. Ant Man was very much a (no pun intended) smaller movie to me. This new trailer just feels like another 'how insane can we go' kinda thing.

We'll see what it's like when it's released, I could be very wrong and will be happy to admit that.
