Nitpick a movie or what you only noticed years later

So the famous Terminator 2 scene showed up in my Youtube suggestions and i rewatched the Terminator get some clothes, a ride, sunglasses ( at night) and a weapon. It got me thinking about the million things every movie gets wrong at times - from visible equipment, wrist watches or contrails showing up in ancient movies or Starbucks coffee cups in Game of Thrones up to logical or in realism mistakes.

To me it's fun to notice these things so why not collect some?

What i only now really noticed in T2 are a few things:

- Would his skin heal? He gets stabbed in the ribs and a few seconds later we see him bleed from the wound. Will his skin heal itself like human skin would? Also how soon will the skin deteriorate from the lack of nutrients, since he doesn't have the physiology to maintain living tissue?

- Why doesn't he turn on the light on the bike as he drives away? It's bad enough he wears sunglasses at night but driving around in the dark with no lights on will 100% get the cops on him if they see him, blowing his cover.

Asked and answered a few scenes later when Sarah was digging the bullets out of his skin. Sarah: "Will these heal up?" T2: "Yes."

Only a day or two, implied by the scene in T1 when the Terminator was trying to maintain himself in his apartment. The pallor of the skin, the sound of flies and the through-the-door complaints of the landlord all give evidence of how quickly the skin decays without the type of aid Sarah's giving him in the second movie.

- Why doesn't he turn on the light on the bike as he drives away?

Again, asked and answered in a later scene: He didn't need to, as indicated in the scene when he's driving away from Pescadero wth the headlights off and wearing those same sunglasses. When asked "Can you see anything?," he answers "I can see everything," which is followed by his POV looking at the road in night vision mode.

It's bad enough he wears sunglasses at night but driving around in the dark with no lights on will 100% get the cops on him if they see him, blowing his cover.

Priorities. Protecting John and avoiding detection by the T1000 are more important than fooling cops. The Terminator was designed to pass for human just long enough to kill its target. Highly attentive cops he can deal with.

I like nitpicking as much as the next guy, but "burning questions" don't burn that hot if you can get the answers just paying attention to the movie you're watching.

Watched The Holiday last night (again), the 2006 one with Cameron Diaz.

Why, at the start, when Ethan has been kicked out the bedroom is he sleeping on the sofa? Are we supposed to believe the mansion they live in in LA has only one bedroom?

Also why does the movie get cheesier each time i watch it.

I love George A. Romero's "Dawn of the Dead", but having watched the "Cannes" workprint and "European" cut by Dario Argento, IMO, George made a couple of questionable editing decisions, that, had they been included in the "Theatrical" release would have helped clear up a couple of plot issues.

The first one being the confrontation at the police dock with the other officers.

In the "Theatrical" version, there's a brief moment where Roger tells the officers to get a move on because there's a report that the dock has been knocked out. There's no explanation as to who that officer is, or why he's there.

In the "Cannes" version, there's a whole confrontation between the two parties before they reach detente, then Roger tells they need to move it.

In the "Theatrical" version, shortly after they've secured the mall, there's a scene with Peter and Steven where they're discussing camouflaging the access hallway behind the storefronts.

In the "European" cut, there's a brief line where Peter says they'll gather all the furniture they need and store it at the bottom of the stairs before they seal off the hallway.

That brief line explains why there's suddenly furniture in the hideout after we've seen them sealing up the doorway; it was always there, just off screen.

In the old version of Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indy is in the Well of Souls, a cobra lifts it head up and flares its neck, there is a reflection of the snake. It's been fixed in later releases, but it was originally there.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture, since enterprise was still being worked on, why weren't the two unlucky crew members beamed to Enterprise instead of Enterprise beaming them up?

Back to thew Future, why didn't Marty give himself more time to get to the now Lone Pine Mall? He could run there in about 10 minutes, if he had given himself an hour, he could have tried to save Doc Brown, learned of Doc's plan and then gone and hid to let things play out as they did. He could also have pushed the DeLorean up into the truck since there was no room for Doc to get into it any other way. There was no room for even the DeLorean's gull doors to open enough to let in a full grown man in while it was in the truck.

Speaking of Doc Brown but after the first movie did he become Fugitive of the law? When the cops arrest the terrorist they must have figured out the Doc had dealings with these terrorist. Also they must have assumed he went on the lam when they can't find him.

They don't know he would be living out most of the rest of his life in the past. For all they know he is hiding out in Mexico or something. In fact I think Doc Brown never planned to return to his 1985 life. He was going to spend his time exploring or living in the future. All that changed of course but I bet that was the plan.

I doubt it.

If the authorities questioned Doc, he could claim that the Libyans forced him against his will to build a bomb. Which is probably true anyway.

Spoiler: last chance

It took me a few years to notice there was no reason for the BTTF Deloren to have it's combustion engine fuel line on the outside. Contrivance to make it easy for an arrow to hit causing the leak.

I still love the film though. The locomotive finale makes it all worthwhile.

In "Die Hard", McClane's "Geronimo Mother" IED very plainly explodes on the bottom floor. However, the two terrorists on that floor both survive unhurt. The terrorists who are killed (or at least don't appear again) are the ones with the rocket launcher, which is several floors up.

No, it exploded on the roof of the elevator (or the chair and computer were heavy enough to break through into the elevator itself) that the baddies had taken down to fire on the police armored car, and then the explosion spread out into the surrounding floor and then back up the elevator shaft.

You actually see the explosion coming out of the elevator door with the "terrorist" standing there.

Why didn't the aliens in Independence Day launch their spaceship jets on earth destroying stuff before they used the big guns on the big buildings? They could have attacked from the very beginning and then pull back with the big guns are ready. And then send the jets back in after that and keep the assault going non-stop until they have completely broken whatever resistance we humans could offer. Not to mention landing foot soliders. Also why use the big guns just once?

I touched on this in another thread. Why would we assume any terrorists were arrested? They easily could've died in that Volkswagen wreck, & all that would be needed is for Doc & Marty to clean up the mess... OR what better way to clean up the mess, than to use their time machine to somehow prevent the terrorist attack altogether?

I'm not going to nitpick, I'm going to share a timely, seasonal revelation from years later about It's a Wonderful Life, that completely revolutionized my perspective on this movie

This is the scene when Potter offers George a high paying job, which was almost certainly a grift that he'd have screwed him out of sometime later. For many years, having seen this film growing up, I just had a youthful impression of Potter as a garden variety, pointlessly tyrannical old miser, but this Easter Egg provided a substantial motive for Potter. He is not just a paraplegic in a wheelchair, he is in crippling suffering from some ailment that has claimed his ability to even be upright, to the point he has to self medicate in dangerous extremes. he is a truly lost soul, beyond the kind of saving George gets from his guardian angel, because he has reached a point in his misery where the only fulfillment he has in the world is to make others as miserable as he is.

I mean, he is deliberately choosing to be a slumlord, and actively trying to block the town from having their own cooperative autonomy. That's why that Bank & Loan is his nemesis. It's everybody else in town trying to create a harmony of community, & if he is to ever feel like his own suffering isn't just a curse to him alone, he must plant and flourish misery to others. He is terrible to others & creates suffering for others, because it makes him feel less alone in his own misery.

That's some brilliant writing.

I never noticed that stuff before. I wonder if their has ever been a novelization of the movie and maybe they explored that idea. That does make him more interesting of a character IMO.

Why couldn't the x-rays or whatever scanners they used see the chestbuster in the person's chest? They knew the Facehuger had put its ovipositor (had to look that up) down the throat so why not look down with a scope and see what damage it might have caused or what it might have been doing with its ovipositor?

The android was in charge of the medical care IIRC and he was under orders from the company to return the alien alive. The crew didn't know he was an android, they trusted him but the crew was considered expendable if it meant the alien made it back intact. So he didn't tell them everything.

Did Ferris Bueller and his friends kind of have a to busy day to have it fit within school hours at a high school? The baseball game alone would at best be 2 hours and that doesn't count finding parking and stuff like that.

Heck they didn't even have a full day. Ferris goofs around at home a little at first. His girlfriend actually went to school so maybe she was their at least a hour I would guess.

I'm going on memory, but he calls out sick, which would be prior to 8AM, & then moments later harrasses Cameron into coming over, where they then they call to get her, which wasn't too long after the Bueller... Bueller... roll call scene. Have I got the right?

They might've pulled her out before or by 9, go for a ride, hitting the museum, lunch by maybe 10:30, taxi to ballgame within the next hour. Maybe don't even stay to the end, but instead catch the parade going back, stall at the pool for Cameron's meltdown, walk Sloan home (presumably these suburban kids live close to each other) & then realize he's nearly out of time. It's a LOT for a day, but doable, if they just kept moving, blasting thru the world on high octane holiday mode
