There are actually people out there who root for the Empire? I've seen movies and TV shows do jokes about that, but I didn't think anyone actually did.

They do, they pop up every fucking video game or movie trailer. "Wahhh, I want to see the war from the EMPIRE's perspective, the Rebels are terrorists, Empire good" - like yea sure.

A game/movie from the Empire's perspective should be full of infighting, backbiting, worthless competition over basic resources even in your own branch, treachery, betrayal, brownnosing and fear of your own position. Because that is what the Empire is and always has been. It offered nothing good for the galaxy, even the rapid militarization 'needed' for something like the vong - real life shows that democracies and capitalist systems do that better than corrupt fascist ones, but noooo.

Fascism is illogical, inefficent, bad at war honestly, machismo, jingoistic, social darwinistic, and at the least chauvinist/supremacist by its nature. No one wins in it but the leader, who has to constantly keep everyone pissed at everyone else so he's not overthrown, and every other lackey just steals and grifts what they can while spouting off about purity and justice and anti-corruption.

I know a lot of people like to dress up Vader or Storm Troopers, but I always assumed for most people that was just because they look cool.

And I find it so amusing that a game from the Empire's perspective is so unconscionable, but games about being a hitman, a gangster, human killing aliens, among others...interesting line there.

People want to feel safe and powerful. And there are aspects of the Empire that offer that.

I find it deeply fascinating because it usually reflects a personal value of the person that isn't as insidious as expressed in a fictional fantasy movie about an evil empire. I mean, do people find fans of Wicked or those planning world domination in RISK or Axis and Allies or other RPG style games equally frightening? What about playing an RPG for Mordor? People playing Klingons? Romulans? Not so sure about Cardassians? I've known people who have costumed as Ringwraiths, outlaws, zombies and Sith. Seen whole LAN parties to play Battlefront and kill Ewoks.

When should I be concerned?

Again, it's an interesting line, and reveals much about everyone.

There are those that view the Empire to be what the Imperial propaganda/official line is, Security and Order for a peaceful and productive society. Viewing the Emperor as the space wizard thing that doesn't have much to do with the function of the Empire. The Republic being seen as corrupt and chaotic. The rebels as terrorists. Jedi as fanatic space wizards or a cult. The Sith is just the same and most wave it off.

We see some of the deticated Imperials in The Mandalorean who believe much of the above (Like the shuttle pilot the was on the Death Star when it blew up Alderaan and was happy about it). But Andor shows us regular citizens that are for the Empire and officers that are true believers in their cause to bring order and security to the galaxy.

There are also a lot of people who despise the Jedi, and I suspect there may be overlap between the two groups.

We see some of the deticated Imperials in The Mandalorean who believe much of the above (Like the shuttle pilot the was on the Death Star when it blew up Alderaan and was happy about it). But Andor shows us regular citizens that are for the Empire and officers that are true believers in their cause to bring order and security to the galaxy.

I've seen that in "Star Wars Rebels", "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and even in a small scene from "Solo". Even "The Mandalorian" and "A New Hope" featured regular officers that were true believers of the Empire. Look, I like "Andor". I just don't see anything really special about it, aside that it seemed like a production for the SYFY Channel to me.

Well, to each their own. It definitely doesn't feel as loose as a SYFY channel production. Some time is wasted but not much. Everything stacks together.

Again, to each their own, but Andor has solid character work, but from the base up. No one is special, no one is all good. It's a lived in, messy world. It hits that ANH niche better than Mandalorian. In my opinion.

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I read that K-2S0 will most likely be showing up next season. It will be cool to see how they got and reprogrammed it.

I love the Imperial aesthetic. I like Tie Fighters and Stormtroopers etc, but at the end of the day I also know damn well that at heart I'm Rebel Scum :P

I can't remember if it was TFW or TLJ that came out in Sith and Jedi sleeves with the marketing tagline "Pick a side." I mean WTF, there's only one side!

I wouldn't say I've ever rooted for the Empire, though I remember when I was younger, a teenager, I tended to view the Empire as a sort of shade of gray. I mean, yes, I recognized it had evil leadership, Palpatine and Vader were indisputably evil, and Tarkin certainly wasn't a nice guy either, but when looking at officers like Admiral Piett or General Veers or whoever, I didn't really get the impression they were evil, but rather just people doing a job and unfortunately that job put them on the bad guy's side in the conflict.

This is an ongoing struggle of humanity, so this is not just a recent development. The Empire appeals to people usually who feel powerless in some way, which goes as far back in to human history as we can remember. Feeling powerless is a scary feeling, and finding images that project power, and control and managing fear. I mean, the Empire was partially inspired by the United States and it's imperialist policies against Vietnam. So, it's not odd if looked against the backdrop of human history, even in the last 100 years.

Yes and for most of them it's just the aesthetic. But then you get to those who think the empire's system is justified, efficient, and admirable. Those are a rare minority.

For me, there is "The Expanse", which I feel is one of the better science-fictions shows I've seen over the years. I would have included "Battlestar Galactica" (the more recent one), but I think "Andor" is better.
