With William Shatner!(fight scene)

On Saturday November 19 2022 I had the honor of attending The Star Trek Original Series Set Tour with William Shatner. Among so many things that happened, I had a fight scene(TWICE!!) with William Shatner, in Engineering, in full TOS uniform.

I don't think it can get better than that!

People are paying extra (I assume) to see a celebrity, not a mask. If Shatner showed up with his face covered and his voice muffled, that's pretty close to not seeing him at all. It would come across as a ripoff.
Yeah, I had VIP tickets for a concert a while back, we got to meet the band backstage but it was when everyone was still wearing masks so the photos are kind of disappointing.

Thanks for sharing! just curious....was it Shatner's idea to stage a 'fight' with someone (you) in Engineering? to show he could still throw a fake punch?
I wish he would pay a little attention to his clothes, show more respect for the fans.

It's something he likes to do when he visits the set tour. A little Actors workshop if you will. He explained that they liked to do these fights in engineering because it's the largest room. I was asked by James Cawley to do the fight. We Showed the guests, how a fake punch looks real from specific Camera angles. As someone who grew up having been in many real fist fights, Shatner knew what he was doing. If he connected, he would have knocked me on my ass!

As far as how he dressed, for a 91 year old Icon, I personally couldn't care less. The man's flight was late and he had very little sleep but insisted on doing THREE tours that day. He dressed comfortably. All good.

Re:masks
My wife is a pediatrician. She always wears a mask in public
I, sort of, do not. Awkward

it’s a complicated issue. If a man, who’s 90, requests masks …the wear them! Not a big deal

Well done you. Wow.
Shatners a legend. 91 and still catching planes, staging fight scenes and entertaining the fans.
I think as much as he complains about it there must be some part of him that enjoys the interaction.
Saying that he does look a bit tired in the photos.

Some time ago, he might have been in his 70s at a guess, Shatner said something to the effect that he never wanted to retire. He said (approximately) "I've seen what it's done to friends who've retired, and I don't want that to be me." I guess he wasn't kidding. And it's terrific that his health has stayed so good.

I shouldn't say this, but I hope Bill is booked and happily playing a gig somewhere on the day of George's memorial. It's not that I want George to go, you understand, but boy I want Bill to stay.

He was wearing a shirt, jacket, pants and shoes. Not sure what you wanted him to dress in. Most guests at cons dress comfortably, like real people... unless you wanted him to show up in costume. I can't imagine he'd start doing that now.

Get me in a room with Bill Shatner and the last thing I'd worry about is his outfit. I'd be more focused on trying to say something that's either not stupid, dorky or something he hasn't already heard 5000 times by now (which is kinda why I stopped doing cons).

I've war gamed that scenario in my head so many times. What would I say to the guy? In the end, I guess it's okay that I never met him, because for all intents and purposes, he's met "me" 100 times. Minimum.
