Hope and fear

JoeZhang

Vice Admiral

So I'm looking at this quote from MA about the episode Hope and fear:

"My people managed to elude the Borg for centuries! Outwitting them, always one step ahead! But in recent years, the Borg began to weaken our defenses. They were closing in, and Species 8472 was our last hope to defeat them. You took that away from us! The outer colonies were the first to fall; 23 in a matter of hours. Our sentry vessels tossed aside, no defense against the storm. And by the time they had surrounded our star system... hundreds of cubes... we had already surrendered to our own terror."

If this race has quantum slipstream technology - why didn't they just leave the DQ if they were so worried about the borg?

Perhaps because there are limits to that technology in terms of how far you can travel. Or because the Borg control a significant portion of the DQ.

Well, why didn't the Federation simply evacuate Earth when they knew the Dominion were coming? They probably either believed that they could hold off the Borg, or there was simply no way to evacuate their homeworlds. I'm leaning towards the latter. Can you imagine the logistics of evacuating an entire planet?

But this is a race that has tackled the borgs for centuries, so why, with access, to slipstream technology are they are in one solar system - why don't they have colonies in other sectors or light years away?

Why do people in parts of Africa stay in a place they can't find food?

It's their home and it's all they know. Plus you saw in "Day of Honor" and from the Talaxians how people are treated when they become displaced from their homes. Nobody will help them & they're treated like vagrants. Nobody wants to live being seen & treated like that.

but they were displaced in a short period of time - this is a situation where a race has over a century to plan their survival.

They did plan it.

They planned on successfully fending off the Borg. It was the unknown factor of Janeway and Voyager that threw a wrench in their plans and detroyed their entire civilzation. If it wasn't for Voyager, they never would have been assimilated.

They would not have been assimilated at the time that they were. They were basically counting on species 8whatever to get rid of the borg for them. If the borg had won that war without the Voyager interfering the results may have been the same - just at a different time.

We don't have any proof of that.

We do know however there are beings that also live the Delta Quaderant that don't fear the Borg because they have means to keep them away, the Voth being one of them. Even Starfleet has managed ways(BOBW & First Contact) to keep the Borg at bay.

The Borg are relentless, they aren't unstoppable.

His desire for revenge was kind of pointless though, since the 8472 would have wiped out his people anyways once they were done with the Borg (they were going to kill everyone), though he didn't know that.

^ True. When it comes right down to it we don't have proof one way of the other whether or not his race would have survived whether Voyager entered the picture or not.

He didn't know that, we wasn't telepathic.
