I believe it was decided back when that we were going to do single threads for a series/miniseries as a whole, rather than individual issues. As such, I have removed the issue information from your thread title, and subsequent issues can be discussed in the same thread.

Also, I added a spoiler tag, since if people are going to discuss the story, there may be spoilers.

Wasn’t expecting the kid from Suddenly Human to show up at the end.

I guess you could say he showed up, Suddenly?

I expected his father to turn up because of the Talarian involvement.

The comic, visually and character-wise, felt very Classic Trek. Like a true contemporary of TNG/DS9/VOY.

Set in 2380, the events take place simultaneously with Lower Decks season 1, though.

The Resolute has a Xindi-Primate science officer.

I had watched the ST: Resurgence preview scene (briefing with Spock) months ago, so the Resolute and its crew already feel familiar. Except for Commander Sutherland. I wonder if he ends up promoted to captain at the end of the comic series, as foreshadowed in issue 1?

I have to say - the art really bothered me in this, its just not what I had come to expect from the Trek line thus far. Sutherland seemed to be the worst, and some of the facial expressions of the Andorian Admiral seemed odd.

I did like the Bridge design, but am curious as to what the two front stations are if the Ops Station is one of the side stations. Tactical perhaps?

I have mixed feelings about this issue. I very much am excited about STAR TREK: RESURGENCE and it is the video game I am most looking for 2023, yes, even over Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty and Bloodlines 2 (which I am doubting will be released that year). I loved the original Star Trek story-based games and while Star Trek Online has its appeal, it just doesn't have the level of "personality" I want. So I was excited about this comic.

The set up seems pretty good with Doctor Leah Brams (minus Geordi) and the Talarians (TNG: "Suddenly Human") both being involved as well as a plot regarding an experimental warp drive. Unfortunately, I'm going to give the issue a point off because it doesn't have Commander Jara Rydek from the game but a new character named Commander Sutherland. I understand Jara is a new transfer to the USS Resolute and might not have been available for the prequel but her complete absence is felt. Weirdly, I felt the crew just felt overly male and that's a strange thing to observe in Star Trek.

I also flat out don't like Sutherland's design.

I thought it was a good start. I was iffy on some of the artwork when it came to the people, but really liked how the Resolute was drawn. Also liked the return to the First Contact/Dominion War uniforms. Also liked the use of the Talarians. I think it's a great choice because so little has been done with them in canon. The supposed main villain with the ruined face also looked pretty menacing.

I'm not a Leah Brahms fan, but I thought this was a good use for the character here.

I thought the crew lineup was more male than I was anticipating. Also, wouldn't have minded seeing more aliens on the Resolute more integrated in the goings on in the first issue. But I liked how the crew interactions and dynamics felt in line with Trek. Overall, this issue had a nice retro feel and I'm interested to see more.

I read the third issue and I'm still liking the story so far. It's got some nice twists.
I'm iffy on the characters' actions though, particularly the captain and first officer. The first officer seems too much of a loose cannon, and I imagine he'll be buying the farm before the series is over to make way for the video game character.
Still liking the main Talarian villain.
The inclusion of Jono in the story is a good one, and they do a very good job getting the likeness of the actor. I like the few tidbits we get about Talarian culture, and also what they have been up to after their TNG episode.

It's not a big deal, but personally, I think the writers/creators should've diversified the crew more especially with this being a comic book adaptation of a video game, and there's no limit on the imagination for either necessarily.

Commander Jara Rydek is one of the playable characters in the game and it the resolutes new first officer under Capt Solano.

So Sutherland is off somewhere by the end of the series for sure.

I liked a lot the artwork for the latest issue. Some really nice renderings of the Centaur class.
The issue was fast paced and ended on a good cliffhanger. Captain Solano doesn't come across as a good captain, and I don't know if that is just the take in this prequel or if that will be the same in the video game. With this being a prequel, I can imagine he'll grow between this story and the video game. He seemed more concerned about personal/career glory instead of getting Resolute back to Federation space. Perhaps this was just a storyline dictated move, but it didn't feel like it made much sense to me, especially if they had a logical alternative to the experimental engine. I'm still liking the Talarian big bad, but Jono's sketchy behavior is putting him in the crosshairs too much, and I wonder if CBS would kill off the character, and in a comic? To me, Hektar should've killed him in this issue.

Centaur class!? One of my faves! Is it the real Centaur class or the Eaglemoss Centaur class?

Oh, 'real' versus Eaglemoss? Is there a backstory here of which I am not aware?

Eaglemoss, more or less. The game is using the larger scale, but has changed a number of details. https://www.ign.com/articles/star-trek-resurgence-meet-your-ship-uss-resolute-ign-first https://www.gamespot.com/articles/s...review-spock-will-remember-that/1100-6504623/

The Centuar is a kitbash of an Excelsior and a Reliant model kit. The original modeler intended it to be scaled using the Reliant parts, which makes the ship seem very small. Eaglemoss based their model on a CG model that scaled the ship to the Excelsior parts, changing or removing several details to match it as a much larger ship. https://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/ds9tm.htm#centaur

Personally, especially since this video game has redesigned the Excelsior-sized version to not use any Reliant parts at all, I imagine there are actually two different ships of different sizes with similar designs.

In the final issue they are planning on refitting the ship to have a different secondary hull. So supposedly the in game version is just a variant of the single class.

Makes sense, I only noticed this morning seeing some of the covers that the art seemed to be the "stock" version of the ship and not what's been in the game's publicity.

Speaking of Eaglemoss, the model can be split to mirror the saucer separation from the comic.

I thought the final issue was a solid enough end to set up the video game,
and largely filled with action, as the first officer made the big, and not unexpected sacrifice. I would've liked some other kind of twist or something to happen because the story came off as a bit basic.

I wasn't sure if Hektar was killed or not, but I'm assuming he was. If so, it was a waste of a good villain that I would've liked to see in future projects. Not quite sure I buy that Starfleet would be so forgiving when it came to Brahms or Solano, but I can say it does give both characters redemption arcs.
