Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

Hahahahaah.
Loved the Casting Call "Proto Baggings" "Samwise Gam-She" "Dr. Wyn, Medicine Woman"

But the part about where it tries to say the new show is "political" and then tries to make a clumsy parallel to the War on Terror in the early 2000s is incredibly stupid, considering that all the material discussed was written down by Tolkien decades before those events happened. Maybe it's just meant as a joke, but it comes off as try-hard.

I think a lot of folks are projecting their own political "lens" on things that are just meant to be simple entertainment.

Some people said Andor was some kind of repudiation against Trump and that Mon Mothma was supposed to be some idealized vision of a brave Nancy Pelosi, fighting her good fight against the Evil Empire™.

I didn't see any of that. And aside from last week's episode, I generally found Andor to be somewhat uninteresting compared to the other D+ Star Wars series, so... People gonna see what people gonna see...

Yeah. I get tired of the comments, People see what they want, honestly.

Reports have surfaced that Amazon are sidelining the current showrunners because of the disappointing audience reaction. If true, I'd say it's too late to fix and change direction. The choices made in the first season have largely determined how things will progress. If the showrunners are now writers as rumoured, this is unlikely to correct the problems with plot development or dialogue. But let's assume this massive vessel can be saved - who could be the person to do that? Peter Jackson? JMS? Hopefully, not JJA...

Idk, I think it's still possible to change the tone, pacing and characterization of future seasons of this series, particularly if they bring in someone with a strong idea of what they want to do.
For example a new show-runner might decide to bring in Celeborn earlier tha. The old ones might have planned.

The adaptation's changes to the lore have been made. There's no fixing those apart from starting again. There's no way Amazon is papering over the chasm-sized cracks that will mend things. This isn't your average TV show. Tossing in buckets of gore, tits and dragons won't help.

ETA: This is from someone who didn't think the show so far was terrible - just disappointing. The first season was basically a Tolkien theme-park ride but I'm not queuing up to go round on it again. I'm not really seeing how further seasons can be better given what has been put in place. I'll probably watch them to catch where the lore has been traduced or honoured, but I'm not a fan of the adaptation. At least I didn't throw up...

 Yeah. Because I, of all people, would advocate "gore, tits and dragons" to "improve" a show. Sure.

Though GoT is actually a good example. Look what it was in the beginning, with GRRM still involved, look what it turned into. And a lot of the bad stuff people criticised later was actually there, in smaller doses, from he beginning, people just didn't notice (or were forgiving of it) because the overall product still had quality in those days

No they can't undo the changes to the lore and they, but I'd wager the changes to the lore wouldn't have stood out as so negative if the overall pacing, plot structure, characterization and dialogue hadn't been so lacking for most of the season.
And that is definitely things that can be adjusted in the next season, without "gore, tits and dragons"

And I also say that as someone who didn't think the season was that bad (I especially liked the production values and I'm definitely looking forward to Season 2), just kinda empty. It felt like it was 7 episodes of slow build-up for Episode 8.

Yeah, I wasn't responding to you or anyone else actually liking the show to some degree nor commenting on your posts - just musing how Amazon might desperately now try to "fix it" given its poor reception generally. I didn't think it was nearly as poor as many have portrayed it. It's by no means essential viewing for me, however. Trying to spice it up might be one thing Amazon will try in order to compete with HotD. I think there'll definitely be less cute Harfoot stuff and mystery box elements though.

If this is true, I just hope they don't totally change the story and direction of the show. I enjoyed it, and I'd at least like to see the story continue on from where things were left off, without the quick tie up and change in direction we get sometimes when new show runners take over. As for the changes to the lore, there's really no way to undo them at this point, that stuff has had such a huge impact on the direction of the story, that they'd pretty much just have do a from scratch reboot if they wanted to bring things closer to what was in the books.

Do you happen to have a link to any of these 'reports'; or is it the usual YouTube mouthpieces?

Of course not, which is why I qualified it with "if true". It does seem credible though given the critical drubbing the series has received.

Daily USA News ran a piece on this rumour, although again that was based on YouTube content.

Rumor: Amazon To Retool ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power’, Sideline - US News Today | Daily Us NewsPaper (usinnews.com)

I'd prefer that people don't act as gatekeepers on other people spreading such gossip and speculation. It's only a f*cking TV show.

I'd hate to see Rings of Power change much. Outside of quickening the pace a bit it was a great show (even the lame proto-Hobbits, while they could have had some screen time cut, had a point in connection to a bigger story). Its honestly possibly the single best "serious" Fantasy show ever made in my opinion, and the fact that someone realized that they could make a Fantasy show that was actually fantastical, and wasn't grimdark bullshit filled with hyper violence and various forms of sexual assault, legitimately made me happy.

Honestly, the only thing that could really help RoP is the thing the showrunners can't control, which would be access to all of the LOTR backstory stuff. With what they do have the rights to, I don't see how anyone could do much better at making the show, outside of the previously mentioned pace quickening and cutting some of the Proto-Hobbit's screentime.

I doubt there is much they're going to change at this point, but it would suck if basically GOT fans (because the vast majority of complaints I've read seem to come from GOT fans) managed to convince Amazon to ruin ROP. I mean, they'll never get the really fucked up stuff from GOT put in ROP, I'm sure the Tolkien estate made sure of that, but honestly at this point if you don't like ROP there isn't much the show can do to change your opinion that wouldn't literally just make it a whole different show, which would really suck.

I'm sure they will make adjustments. To what degree I don't know. I have no doubt that many are dissatisfied with this adaptation process, and how the Tolkien's world is being maligned.
