All things RED Dwarf

Red Dwarf has some of the funniest lines I have ever heard, not to mention the best insults.

LISTER: "Rimmer, you've got a longer yellow streak than a stampede of diarrhetic camels."
LOOK OUT...I'M GONNA KILL YA...

That's my favorite line used to say it all the time hahaha...

Red Dwarf 's an oddity. I like it but I've never really found it funny. I can't ever remember laughing at it.

Amusing yes, but not actually funny.
Maybe it's the British accents...still one of my favorite shows ever...

More likely the British style of humor and the fairly specific references that don't always go over for everyone.

Holly: "That's a load of tottenham that is. That's a steaming pile of hotspur" Most people would get the point of that one, but I wonder how a football club was made to be the butt of a joke. Was the team really bad in the 80's?

Having grown up in Canada, I grew up watching Monty Python, Mr Bean, The Two Ronnie's, etc etc, so I kind of understand the British sense of humor a bit.
(not to mention Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, The Young Ones, Bottom)

My problem was, Chicago PBS never ran RD (or Black Adder or Bean). Monty Python, The Two Ronnies, Dave Allen At Large and of course Doctor Who were various Sunday night shows. I saw one or two episodes of RD when I could get the Milwaukee PBS station to come in.

Of course! Lager! The only thing that can kill a vindaloo!!
I've had a couple vindaloos that even lager couldn't touch. Even the dino couldn't handle them.

Every time the subject of Indian food comes up, I think of John Pinette:

I like a curry. Just not a hot one.
I worked in a restaurant and one night we had curried goat. It wasn't bad. Just a bit stringy

By the way I love John Pinette. His water park story is hilarious.

I have never eaten a vindaloo.

It's probably just as well.

There's different levels of hot, esp the red curry one I had last weekend. It's an acquired taste for sure.

In no small thanks to the influence of Dave Lister, I acquired an ambition to try the hottest curries I could.

This led to two occasions where I went in and ordered ‘off menu’ Bangalore Phaals. The waiter at the first tried to warn me off, but I said don’t worry about it. He got his manager who did the same and I persisted. When they served it, all the waiting and kitchen staff congregated behind the curry house bar to watch.
That had a kick. I thought for a second my eyeballs were going to burst forth from my head, but after that initial sting the flavour came through and it was amazing. I lost 4lbs eating that meal but it was delicious and worth it. The next morning was horrendous.

The second one was disappointing because that was a different restaurant and they went easy on me.

Red Dwarf, the first thing that usually comes to mind about this series:

Food station is being fixed.
After it's ready chicken soup is ordered.
Chicken soup is tasted and spat out.
Yep, that's working.

What is it?
It’s a rent in the space time continuum
What is it?
The stasis room freezes time, right. Makes time stand still. So when you have a leak it must preserve what it’s leaked into and it’s leaked into this room.
What is it?
A singularity. A point in the universe where the normal laws of space and time don’t apply.
What is it?
It’s a hole back into the past.
Oh! A magic door! Well why didn’t you just say?!
