Will Sam Beckett Return Home? NBC Orders Quantum Leap Reboot Pilot

It seems like a huge coincidence that Sam fathered a daughter who was a genius and went to work on the Quantum Leap project and that Al *ALSO* fathered a daughter who was a genius who is attempting her own Quantum Leap project or Ziggy interface.
It could just be that she grew up interested in it because of her father, spent her whole life studying to be able to work there, and developed the skills and knowledge to be able back her way into Ziggy.

I wonder if the end goal is to reach the bar that Sam met God/Time/Fate/Whoever in order to figure out what happened to him or find Sam himself and finish what Al was unable to do.

Oh man... how I wish the music and the opening was more like this:

Speaking of the original think the new series needs more imaging chamber door.

And haven't quite worked out if the original sound effect when Ben leaps.

Also I'm wondering given some of the dialogue, whether the project was re-located from Stallion's Gate to the current location hence the "govt basement" look?

It's definitely a new location, the current Project is in L.A.

Which seems like the oddest location for a top secret government time travel project. Having lived in LA for a few years, I'm left wondering where in the hell in LA would they also allow what's basically a nuclear accelerator.

I guess the Valley... porn and Project Quantum Leap, I suppose.

Maybe the show just takes place in Total L.A. Fantasyland Universe, like in 24 when Jack Bauer can drive across town in minutes, and a nuclear BOMB can go off right in the middle of the fucking city with no adverse effects.

NBC ordered 6 additional episodes to make it 18 for the 1st season

Also note worthy: due to the extensive visual effects it requires, Quantum Leap, doesn’t lend itself to being a 20+ episodes-per-season show.

Great news!

Jack Bauer would've been stuck on the 405 for the entire episode and the next one!

Good but surprising news. I thought I'd heard it was getting weak ratings. Maybe that was just Internet fearmongering.

Huh? The original QL was not a particularly FX-heavy show, since it was mostly character drama. It basically just had the leap in/out effects and occasional hologram intangibility gags with Al, plus his Imaging Chamber door effect. This show had the big Space Shuttle episode in week 2, but the other two episodes' leaps didn't require that much in the way of VFX, it seems.

Although... a lot of VFX these days aren't really recognizable as VFX, since they're about building digital cityscapes and skylines around the actors, that sort of thing. So maybe the FX work would be largely to create period settings.

Don't get me wrong it's certainly not a Disney/Lucas/Marvel movie-like special effects tsunami, but even when productions don't use a Mandalorian-like "Volume-Wall" it's not just the "flashy" leap effects or such to take into account.

Often it's set backgrounds and decorations, maybe even costumes or some of their details (especially for period pieces as QL would qualify depending on the leap of the week), recoloring of grey to blue skies, changing/adding shadows/light (turning indoor into outdoor) or simple "video calls" or them doing things on a phone/computer - that a lot of times is added after filming and not "live".

Cars, room Interiors, costumes, along with music and obviously "locations" are certainly a big part of what make QL more believable to viewers.
I'm not sure production movie studios still have all have a "Chicago", New York street/block for example

Sure, I'm aware of all that, but that's baseline stuff that would go for any modern show. Even shows that aren't period pieces often digitally fake different cities, add upper stories to backlot buildings, etc. The claim here is that this show is more FX-intensive than your typical network drama, significantly enough that it requires ordering fewer episodes per season. And I'm not sure why that would be the case, unless they plan to do big spectacles like episode 2 more often, as opposed to more character-focused stuff like episodes 1 & 3. And that's what concerns me, that they'll turn this into an action thriller instead of a drama.

The reboot is the season’s No. 1 new show in the 18-49 demo. Having debuted on September 19, it’s also the No. 1 current NBC season series on Peacock.

Feels like TV ratings aren't becoming as important as how well it does on the network's streaming service. Either way, glad for more episodes because I'm really enjoying it. Maybe it has a chance for another season.

You were aware that there was a nuclear reactor located on the campus of UC Berkely for a number of years, right?

Berkeley Research Reactor - Wikipedia

When my Uncle and Aunt lived in Berkeley, we would walk across the campus and he would point it out to me.
I am aware. But given the layout and density of LA—I can’t fathom where it would fit. Also PQL is a government project not a university one. So once again I’m left asking where could it go?

NBC.com shows QL as being off this week (Columbus Day). Still very pleasantly surprised that they picked up what must be the equivalent of a back-nine / full season order, though!

Maybe it was off in Canada, but I got to watch a new episode this morning, so it must have aired in the US last night.

In the episode with the bar opening...

Magic recalled the time Sam Beckett (played in the original series by Scott Bakula) leapt into him, which occurred in the Season 3 episode “The Leap Home, Part 2 (Vietnam),” with Christopher Kirby playing a young Magic.

He described it as feeling like a nudge, like he was “standing on one side of a door and on the other side, someone had gently pushed against it.” Magic said yes to the nudge and let that person in. Then everything went black, and he came to a day later, not remembering what happened. During that time, he had somehow saved everyone in his platoon, including his commander Tom Beckett (who was Sam’s brother).

Afterward, Magic had vivid dreams of Sam. When he became admiral, he learned that his name was in a top-secret file and pulled some strings to access it. That’s when he found out about the Quantum Leap project, piecing together what happened to him after seeing a photo of Sam. Knowing that he was originally supposed to die before Sam stepped in, and that Sam was still out there somewhere, he felt compelled to restart the program.

“I don’t know if it will ever be possible to get Sam Beckett back,” Magic told Ian, “but after what he did for me — what he did for so many others — I had to try.”

I had to laugh at the goons' car having a license plate that says 2QRI445.
Gorilla? :D
