All but Sean Tretta (a 12 Monkeys alum) worked on season 2.

Kirsten Beyer (VGR novelist turned STD staff writer from season 1 onwards), Travis Fickett (Terry's former writing partner), and Christopher B. Derrick (who co-wrote S2E09 with Matt Okumura) look to have been on staff for season 3 without any episode writing credits.

I'm somewhat less optimistic for season 3 now seeing some of the names linked with season 2's worst episodes here, but hopefully the showrunner makes all the difference.

I’d love to see some old school Berman era names mixed back in one day. They would need strong leadership though.

Jeri Taylor would be great, she knows Seven of Nine and Voyager really well too.

Jeri hasn't written anything since Voyager. At least according to IMDb.

Also, Terry Matalas is from the Berman era. He only wrote 2 episodes of Enterprise, but still.

Yeah he’s good to go I guess as long as he steers clear of zombie Vulcan’s. He wasn’t a standout writer tbh but he must have done a good job behind the scenes.

No way is Jeri Taylor 84?! I thought she was in her 60’s or something like that. She must have been in her 50’s/60’s when she worked on Voyager then? I loved the book Mosaic, she could have done something similar for Seven of Nine but on the TV. Or maybe she or someone else already did (a book) and I just missed it.

Dark Frontier does not count, as amazing as it is. I am talking about Seven’s ‘lost’ time between Voyager and Picard. Seven has a whole new post Voy backstory now which spans just as much of her life as the time that she lost to the Borg. I think that her past would play an important role in a spin-off as it wouldn’t exactly be ‘Starfleet’. Past actions, decisions and relationships may come back to haunt her with them being counter to Federation/Starfleet morality even if in the same interest. Usually, Starfleet Captains have worked up through the ranks from the academy and know nothing other than Starfleet having experienced nothing else - Seven would be totally unique from our perspective (as far as I can remember), having experienced and done so much before her commission and command. There may even be some serious incidents and past actions that would be detrimental and damaging to her career, her crew may even begin to question her when these things are brought to light. She could have got up to all sorts during her time with the Fenris Rangers. What would happen if an old friend in the Fenris Rangers asked Seven for help one day? Where would her loyalties lie? It would be a similar situation to that of Starfleet officers who have had connections to the Maquis in the past - maybe her connection to ex Maquis such as Tom Paris and Chakotay could help her to make sound judgement in such scenarios? I’m sure that she would not go Edington.

Sorry, I derailed the thread. I thought that I was posting in the Seven of Nine spin-off thread. My apologies. But if any of these writers are good maybe they can write for the new show too.

It was a creative tragedy killing off Hugh and Icheb. Maybe there were rumblings for a Seven of Nine spin-off early days of Picard and the writers killed them off on purpose so that they could not be in it. They might try to annoy us and kill Seven off so we can’t have a spin-off - hype up a Seven lead show and then shockingly kill her off. I think that they might have wanted to kill Seven off at the end of Picard season 2, though this is just a feeling that I have. They did *technically* actually kill her off briefly but luckily the Borg Queen brought her back.

At least the deaths of Icheb and Hugh can add to a tragic backstory for the character, but it’s an unnecessary addition which takes something away from her future interactions on screen.

I actually don’t know what you are talking about, but it sounds controversial and ‘Neutral Zone’ like.

Well I don’t think that there was a deliberate agenda in this instance by TPTB, it was probably just a story point and a result of the writers wanting to add some drama to Culber’s relationship with Stamets - they *probably* always knew that he would come back and that there would be a heartwarming reunion between the pair. This is just like saying that they deliberately killed off a character because of race or gender/gender identity and is quite the accusation. Surely the Star Trek writers would never do something like that or they would not be writing on a show where IDIC is one of the founding ideologies… unless the writers room has been infested with conspiracy parasites? If there was indeed an agenda against any group, why did the writers include representations of such groups in the series in first place? If there is a proven negative agenda against a minority (or anyone/any group for that matter) amongst the writers, then those writers should not be asked to come back once these things have been spotted and an investigation has proven an accusation. I have never seen such an agenda in Star Trek myself… usually quite the opposite, but a lot of things easily go over my head sometimes.

If there is an issue, someone needs to drop an email to Paramount+, the specific productions HR department or maybe even a union… perhaps even the writers guild itself?

They said they talked to GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) while writing that story to see if it would be bad taste and they were find with it. Wilson Cruz is also a member of GLAAD.

They also said it was always the plan to bring Culber back in Season 2, it had nothing to do with the backlash.

Now obviously the Gay community isn't a hive mind so obviously not everyone would agree with them being fine with it..
