Spoilers Lord of the Rings TV series

One thing to note - Wheel of Time was panned by the same right wing clowns (though not by Musk), and was also extravagantly expensive, yet the season 2 that was previously ordered has already wrapped back in May, and a season 3 already ordered.

Where did that rumor even come from? I just posted that its in trouble, not that its cancelled.
I'm just waiting for the inevitable doom and gloom scenario. Whenever I see post about ratings and supposed trouble I just figure I might as well skip to the good part.

More seriously, I don't think that Rings of Power is in trouble. And even if it is is I don't care. Shows last as long as they do nowadays. I find myself less inclined toward future prognostication of a show and more inclined to just sitting there and watching the show.

Why do I feel as if I had experienced this story before? A great evil seemed to be rising, only noticed by a handful. Eventually alliances are formed to battle this rising evil. That seemed to be the main plot of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, only it involved destroying an evil ring. It also seemed to be Gandalf's "B" plot for "The Hobbit" trilogy. And now it's an "A" plot again for this series? I don't know. Perhaps I'm wrong.

Well, once they chose to do another story about the rings, this aspect of it became inherent to the source material...

Looks like there's is now a "Galadriel is a Mary Sue" discussion blowing up... Of course if she was a male doing the exact same things nobody would have a single complaint about it...
On another site a few of us pointed out how Legolas those way more Ludacris stuff than taking out that troll (all she has done so far really) and it just gets laughed off as "a bit silly alright".

No Mary Sue for Legolas.

There is a joke in there if you have a look
The Joke doesn't work because a different Discovery merged with WB and cancelled about 1000 things, some after they were filmed. So I thought you are basing these on some rumors that Amazon will be switching to that same behavior.

As we are on a Star Trek message board, my mind should have gone straight to Star Trek, but it didn't.

How does a gender of an elf (different species) even matter? They might not even have the same biological differences, and some of their prowess is due to magic, no?

Which is ridiculous because Legolas in the Hobbit films was ridiculous and definitely full of Sue traits. I love the fight scene between him and Bolg, but it nonsensical and over the top and gets worse in Battle of the Five Armies. Yeah, Legolas qualifies.

Also Star Wars. And many other human stories. The difference is in the story but our investment in the characters.

It's the prequel for The Lord of the Rings covering the period of time when the Rings of Power were forged, so of course this series is about a great evil that is initially unnoticed, which alliances form to rally against. It's that way in Tolkien's books, and Jackson's first film establishes it up front, even. There's literally no mystery regarding this and no surprise.

That's basically the plot of the entire history of Middle Earth.
It's pretty much the outline of whats supposed to happen here.

Star Wars has the opposite of a hidden threat rising out of sight...

Good point!

I tend to intentionally forget that movie exists :)
Same, and your larger point about the original Star Wars is fair. But, there larger point for me is that the idea of a hidden evil is one that is very common in human storytelling across history. Lord of the Rings is doubly so because it draws from those mythologies, rather than just relying upon archetypes like Lucas' did.

Everything in the Tolkien legendarium of Arda and Middle-earth is a splinter of the imagination of the creator god Eru Ilúvatar that he wove using music and this music itself wove further music recursively. Some of the music was harmonious and pleasing and some of it was dissonant and displeasing. The music brings forth instantiations of good and evil and the endless struggle between them. The contrast between dialectical and dichotomous views and the resulting conflict and resolution are what it's all about.
