JJ's ST4/5? my fan theory

So go with me here. JJ & his coehorts like to redo the old movies with their own twists. For example Kirk dies saving the ship in JJ's ST2:ID vs Spock dying in the first ST3:TSFS.

So my theory, ST5 has Spocks brother as the villain, why not have Sam Kirk be the villain of the next movie? They could 100% use Chris "Thor" Hemsworth as papa Kirk in some flashbacks or timey-whimey writing.
Remember, this is the same writing team that gave us LOST and the Darma Initiative in 1977.
Timey-whimey, gimme The Guardian of Forever, or Carl to his friends.
So anyhow. Sam Kirk will end up being the villain.
We just need an actor with a great pornstache. Mr MasterChief himself would be my first pick. Orange Is The New Black is basically his audition reel for it.
Or... slap some pointy ears on him and make pablo schreiber into Sybok.

Whether you mean it seriously or not, considering the pasting they took over STID I'd be pretty surprised if they waded into the re-do TOS pool again.

I don't think a fourth Kelvin Timeline movie will be a follow-up or remake of anything from TOS, but it'll probably contain a couple of easter eggs here and there.

ST4 would be time travel. The interest has long been in Kirk meeting his father, and no one knows what the plan if they don’t visit there. PIC S2 and SNW seems to have the 2020s covered. And there’s just no interest in visiting the Romulan War, despite a script being developed around it long ago. So, I supposed as long as the Guardian of Forever is involved, anywhere in time is fair game.

ST5 could easily be based around Cytherians and Megas-Tu.

Over time I have liked Beyond more and more. It's become one of my favorite ST movies. It showed what the Kelvin movies could be if they were just allowed to do their own thing and not have to borrow too much from the past. I do think they might have a hard time getting that magic back with the original Abrams film's cast. I also think they've got such a good cast and crew with SNW they they really don't need the Kelvin stuff cloudying the waters. If anything they need a movie that will draw attention and viewers back to Paramount Plus and SNW. My guess is that a 4th Kelvin verse film almost has to be a crossover with Mount and Pine, maybe even Peck and Quinto

Would it just be SNW though? DIS has been the tentpole series, and Patrick Stewart has suggested he’s open to anther movie, despite PIC S3 being the last and it being highly likely that Picard is killed off. Unless it’s a Picard from a different universe…

I'd be all for a "Yesterday's Kelvin" type thing (I know Tarantino wanted to do a film like that) but I don't see much of a chance of getting Chris Hemsworth back. Although he may be willing to do it if he liked the script enough.

The problem isn’t Chris Hemsworth. Its TPTB being cheapskates. Even though they could use the sets from SNW, DIS, & PIC, and the CGI assets they’ve already made (Ent-A, Federation ships and starbases, USS Vengeance, Klingon warbirds, maybe the Romulan starships from the Fleet Command ads) to bring costs down.

Behind the scenes studio politics is the only reason ST IV has yet to be film, not A listers not wanting to work. There’s a reason their on their fourth script for the next movie. And there’s no guarantee that script will be accepted either. I haven't heard anything on that front in months.

Between the godawful movies (IMHO, of course) we got so far, the years between them, and the fact that the Kelvin-cast is already getting old and seemingly moved on from this franchise, my preference would be to let it die the death.

The fact that they apparently don't have a usable script ready to go after all this time just doesn't bode well for the whole endeavor.

Maybe. SNW is doing well enough on it's own. Certainly it could help sell the service. But, I'd rather the story take Pine and Quinto and company and send them on a very different adventure. Something more dangerous and less comfort food of the week.

Regardless, I would love Pine back at least and have him set up a new crew for new adventures in the Kelvin timeline.

I think that says more about the studio. How hard is it to come up with an outline, and write a first draft? The outline itself, if one has given an extreme amount of thought as to what the next film should be like, shouldn’t take more than an hour to write. The 90+ page first draft itself, if it’s the sole focus of the writer(s), several weeks. And yet we haven’t heard anything in a year, and it’s been 6 years since the last film.

Unless they’ve already filmed parts of it in secret due to it being a massive crossover event and they are waiting for Star Trek Day to show something, something doesn’t add up.

Does Star Trek, especially the JJverse, really need a super villain to concoct a story? What would this villain's motivation be? Revenge again??? Those actors were good and interesting there's enough stuff from the first 2 movies the studio can explore if they're willing to appreciate what they have as a creative property than pimping it.

I would say that a film based around Kirk meeting his dad has no need for a villain at all. And even if a villain appeared, their role would be ridiculously minor. It would not be necessary to cast a major name for this villain at all. Production costs being brought down yet again.

I'm thinking Kirk meeting his Dad was a reworking of Orci's unmade Star Trek Into Oblivion (which had Kirk meeting Shatner!Kirk), which had Bryan Cranston as the big bad chasing a machine with the power to reshape reality. Vulcans were after it to undo Vulcan's destruction, humans to (presumably) keep it locked away and the baddie to do evil baddie stuff reshaping the universe in his own image.

Supposedly. From various verified and unverified sources.

The danger could be a natural disaster, not an attack. The antagonist could be, instead of a true villain, just someone with a different opinion. (Although the two are becoming synonymous these days, if the Internet is to be believed...)

That would be very much in line with TVH i.e. the whale probe.

Still an interesting premise for a Star Trek movie. And probably the message that is needed today.
