DC Movies - To Infinity and Beyond

Not DC but the director of the new "Evil Dead" movie made for HBO Max has been hinting that it's going to be shelved.

Not DC but the director of the new "Evil Dead" movie made for HBO Max has been hinting that it's going to be shelved.
Safe to assume that all Max specific movies are goners regardless of how close to completion they are. Even the ones already on the service are in trouble.

Reports are starting to come out. Flash is still happening, but sounds like there will be more reshoots
We have seen ‘The Flash,’ ‘Black Adam’ and ‘Shazam 2,'” said Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav during the company’s Q2 earnings call on Thursday. “We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better.

Bolding is mine

Batgirl talk:

Zaslav also defended the company’s recent decision to kill the “Batgirl” movie starring Leslie Grace, saying: “We’re not going to launch a movie until it’s ready. We’re not going to launch a movie to make a quarter, and we’re not going to put a movie out unless we believe in it.”

So, as part of Zaslav's "strategic priorities" for the company, he says...

"“We intend to maximize the value of that content through a broad distribution model that includes theatrical, streaming, linear cable, free-to-air, gaming, consumer products and experiences, and more, everywhere in the world,” he said."

So certain platforms are not going up in a puff of smoke as some argued, but the elimination of certain productions is clearly the way to streamline WB's content to something one will assume is more palatable to a larger audience. Sound if that is the plan. Certain viewers may not like it, but their interest is not keeping a company alive.

Movies with male leads: "We think we can make them even better."
Movie with female lead: "We're not going to put a movie out unless we believe in it."

Zaslav believes women are only interested in reality shows.

Found someone live tweeting the whole call with photos

"We will seek to attract the best storytellers... To produce the most diverse storytelling in the world." - Zaslav

Uh huh

Perrette starts by slamming the streaming business model https://t.co/fBfjYkRKwM

That's no surprise considering the last few days

Q&A's
Zaslav says that "nourishing" a film over time on streaming, "we cannot find an economic case for it, we cannot find an economic value for it."

Movies may be launched with shorter windows, or different campaigns; but the focus will always be on theatrical.

Zaslav says that "most people came to Hollywood to be on the big screen, when the lights go out," not to go to streaming. Does say that movies will later go to HBO Max. "We're not going to put a movie out unless we believe in it. Particularly in DC..."

Zaslav: "The objective is to grow the DC brand, to grow the DC characters. But also, our job is to protect the DC brand. And that's what we're going to do."

"Our strategy is to embrace and drive the incredible success that HBO Max is having," Zaslav says, shouting out that not only does Casey Bloys read scripts, but his team fights with talent??? What? Is he? Talking about?

Applauding an exec for being willing to fight with talent?

"We're going to spend more money on content. We're a content company," says Zaslav calling out HBO, HBO Max, Warner Bros. TV. Spending will only go up.

Zaslav says that there's a "big group of people in America who love premium content... There's a lot of people who will be willing to pay a lot more for the content we have."

Bunch of comments like this, stressing the importance of HBO content, which sounds like they won't be killing HBO scripted material which is good. It was a crazy idea but after all the Max kills anything was possible.

And that's the call. Click the twitter feed for more I just pulled out interesting stuff to me from the live tweets.

Still not a lot of info about what existing projects are moving forward (other than Game of Thrones) and which are dead.

Unless I've missed something, it looks like my fears about Grace Randolph's doomsaying being accurate were thankfully unfounded, at least for the foreseeable future.

He's going to edit out the star who's in practically every scene but won't even dump Batgirl on streaming to make what money it can? This guy...

What is this, the 1960s? Fandoms don't skew female? Does he know anything about the history of women and fandoms?

How about the fact that HBO is the home of Sex And The City, the ultimate female skewing show...
