What are your controversial Star Trek opinions?

I just find it funny that the most beloved New Trek series turns out to be the one that's Pre-TOS. So much for, "Show us what happens after Nemesis!"

I think if all five current Star Trek series were like SNW, it would get old fast. I still think SNW will get old fast. This is why: When TNG started, there were only 80 live-action episodes of Star Trek. They hadn't run out of "adventure of the week" stories yet and weren't anywhere close. When SNW started, there were on its way to 800 live-action episodes of Star Trek. They don't have it as easy. Which is why I judge SNW differently. I don't look at what they come up with, I look at the angle they approach it from; but even there you can only keep it up for so long.

I'm talking about following every "I love SNW" comment with a comment about Discovery or a veiled "real/proper/optimistic Trek" comment when just saying "I love SNW" would do.
That would be nice, yes. No matter what every Trek for me has become different now. I cannot compare the various shows because there are so many factors that contribute to their differences. I don't want a comparison game. Discovery works for me-period. Picard kind of works. Lower Decks is an ongoing spectrum. TOS works for me-period. TNG is very much an episode by episode. DS9 works more often than not. VOY doesn't work for me, save for the occasional Tuvok episode.

What does that tell you? I'm all over the fucking place! :whistle:

And you forgot Enterprise exists :guffaw:

There should've been three Enterprises between the NX-01 and the NCC-1701. 80 years without an Enterprise, given the rest of the history of the lineage, now looks odd.

How I'd have it:

0. NX-01 --> 2151-2161 (Pre-Federation)
1. NCC-17 --> 2160s - 2180s (looks like the NX-01 Refit)
2. NCC-170 --> 2180s - 2210s
3. NCC-701 --> 2220s - 2240s
4. NCC-1701 --> 2240s - 2280s (this Enterprise is the most famous instead of the first)
5. NCC-1701-A --> 2280s - 2290s (begins the lettering scheme, to honor the NCC-1701)
6. NCC-1701-B --> 2290s - 2330s
7. NCC-1701-C --> 2330s - 2344

Gap from 2344 to 2363 out of respect for the fact that the Enterprise-C was lost with all hands.

8. NCC-1701-D --> 2363-2371
9. NCC-1701-E --> 2372 - ???? (guess we'll have to what to see what PIC Season 3 does!)
10. NCC-1701-F --> ???? (see above)

Hence my crazy fan theory that the NX-01 was never mothballed, but used by the Federation shipyards as a testbed for new technologies and configurations. New engines, sensors, internal configurations, hull elements, computer systems, etc almost on yearly basis. Finally they hit so successful formula that the ship was used as model for the Constitution class and recommissioned to active service as the NCC-1701. But every now and then, when the tech guys wanted to try something new, she was recalled to dock.

After a century of tech trials, fits and refits, the ship had such a jumble of legacy systems and redundancies that made it extremely efficient and durable, but required a Captain level miracle worker as the Chief Engineer. Compared to it, the production line models seemed like they were put together by monkeys.

If we see an F already I will be pissed and I reckon that won't be a controversial opinion.

Could have been used as a training ship. Making cadets fly with rudimentary tech to hone their skills. The Irish navy's training vessel Asgard II is a sail boat for instance.

By 2402 there'll have been 30 years since the launch of the Enterprise-E. By those points only the 1701 and perhaps Enterprise-B were still in service so I'm guessing we'll see either a heavily modified Enterprise-E or the 1701-F.

It’s been more than 20 years in real life since we had a new one. For better or worse, it probably will happen.
The E just seems too new to be decommissioned and it would be awful to give it an off screen ending. But I suppose I forget how long it's been.
Sovereign does still seem to be a mainstay of the fleet and is probably the 2400s Excelsior.

I don’t think the E had enough screentime for me to really care about what happens to it one way or the other. It has the distinction of appearing in three movies that I dislike.

Maybe controversial, but I hope it’s just quietly shuffled away so that the F can be unveiled. I like new Enterprises.

My biggest worry about the F is it will be that disgusting yoke from STO. In general the STO ships are awful especially all the stupid variations (which I understand the irl reason)
Love the E as a ship and love FC. I don't mind INS either.

It's a post scarcity economy. Recycle it as the emphasis moves from war time attitudes to exploration.

considering the Connie’s were in service for at least 40-50 years (albeit with refits) and Excelsior Class ships (some with refits) served for at least 75-100 years I find it hard to believe a Sovereign Class would be decommissioned after 30.

If it were destroyed or crippled to the point it couldn’t be fixed, that’s one thing. But short of massive design flaws, just putting a ship out to pasture seems odd.
