Star Trek: Starships Model/Magazine Subscription

My first Starship was the standard sized USS Enterprise 1701-C - while my last one was the STO CSN-01 AFS Khitomer.

 

I obtained the USS Enterprise XCV 330 from Eaglemoss.

This model is astonishing. It's huge. It looks like a ship we could construct today. It comes from a time period unknown. And it originally was only seen on the wall of the refit NCC 1701's rec room. Pretty obscure craft. But Eaglemoss committed resources of metal and paint and plastic and time to market it.

I'm happy it did. I love this ship!

 

This is a great example of how Eaglemoss worked with "fanon" to source designs for certain ships that we've never seen on screen. The model is based on Mark Rademaker's excellent – I'd go as far as to say definitive – 3D model that was created for the 2011 Ships of the Line calendar.

 

That really was a beautiful model. By all metrics, damn near perfect.

 

I would have loved for EM to make some of the old FASA designs.

 

The XCV 330 is a great looking 'near future' ship, and the last Eaglemoss ship I bought (a few months back, alongside the DISCO Klingon Bird-of-Prey - I'd also ordered the little Klingon 'dragonfly' fighter, but that had apparently sold out in between placing & processing my order).

On a related note, does anyone know what ship this concept art might have evolved into, please? It was featured on the pre-publication cover of Eaglemoss' ST Discovery: Designing Starships book (but not on the final cover), so I imagine it may have been included in one of the Discovery model magazines. If I had to guess, I would say it was intended to be a Vulcan ship - due to the ring engines (if that's what they are) - possibly Sarek's transport in "Lethe"?


I find it to be a fascinating design and would like to know something about it, so if anyone has any info I'd be very grateful

 

Wow. This ship just screams "Space Yacht" to me. Probably opulent on the inside, too. It could very well belong to a distinguished Ambassador.

 

The PDF of the Xindi Insectoid warship magazine (#24) I downloaded includes the ortho pages of the Nausicaan fighter (#30) instead. Did the printed version of the magazine have that error as well?

I guess since I already got the full schematics from John Eaves' site (Eavesdropping), it never occurred to me to check the magazine to see if it had the error when the model arrived.

The correct pictures are also in my german magazine. But it is an interresting error in the PDF. Maybe it occured in a later reprint of the magazine

 

I downloaded a copy from a Wayback Machine archive of the original site, and it does have the error as well. These magazines don't appear to have gone through much quality control. The issue on the D'deridex Warbird has images of the ship taken with anti-aliasing turned off, so its looks very jagged. I was reading the XL editions of the TOS and TNG Enterprises and they were full of punctuation mistakes (commas used instead of periods and vice-versa, missing quotation marks, missing words.) Also they make a lot of mistakes with images. They show a picture of the 4ft Enterprise-D and claim it is the 6ft model. Sometimes the image they show has nothing to do with the caption next to the image.

 

That's kind of odd, considering one could conclude (erroneously, apparently) that these were the same files that had been sent to the printers to make the actual magazines. This is kind of a curious development. I wonder what other PDF mags have errors in them not reflected in the final print versions.

 

They likely posted an earlier version of the mag by accident , before it had gone through one last check.

We all know Eaglemoss was not great at error checking, hence the Prometheus being the size of a runabout and the Cerritos being around the same length as Discovery, nacelles and all.

 

I wonder if another publisher could obtain the rights to EM's book and magazine contents as well as the old Fact Files assets and at least continue to release "Illustrated Handbook", "Designing Starships", and "Shipyards" books. Producing books might be easier and less risky than producing die-cast models.

 

This makes me so sad. What could have been...

 

Holy crap those look awesome!

My shelves are in danger of forming a singularity from the combined weight and output of so many warp cores docked on them that it's just as well I can't add these to my collection. They sure are mighty fine, however.

 

Saw on the Facebook group that Forbidden Planet has the Vancouver from Lower Decks & the XL Stargazer up for preorder with a date of Aug 14th. I doubt they’ll actually have them but I went ahead and placed an order. No idea what shipping to the US will be but I wanted to get them if they do come out.

 

Yeah, Entertainment Earth still has a bunch of stuff listed as pre-orders with arrivals in August. So sometime this month.
