What grade would you give the Marvel Cinematic Universe? (Ever-Changing Question)

I never said it can't work, I was just saying at first blush Blade seems an outlier from the rest of the Phase. It's just not immediately obvious to me how he will blend in. While the MCU might not be one homogeneous mass I think at least part of the point of the MCU is there are some connections between the pieces to bring audiences into parts they might not otherwise be interested in.

And as I said, we'll probably have that between Blade and other supernatural/mythological parts of the universe like the Eternals or Dr. Strange, but not so much with Captain America or Ironheart or the cosmic stuff. The connections don't have to encompass everything.

Or indeed anything. Moon Knight contained virtually nothing that connected to anything else in the MCU. There are just a handful of passing Easter eggs -- a poster for the Global Repatriation Council, a name-drop of Madripoor, and a mention of Black Panther's Ancestral Plane are about it.

Anyway, I don't see why vampires should be an outlier in a franchise that's already given us gods, demons, witches, dragons, and zombies. If anything, it's the grounded stuff like Captain America that's the outlier now.

I've been looking for a place to say, I saw MORBIUS and while it did have a couple problems, I like it more than I dislike it and look forward to more.
So far, I think I've been the only other person who said it was OK and not total crap lol. Make me question what I was imbibing when I watched it.

Ok. How about, make a Blade, (who I have never watched much of...) and Morbius crossover. There has got to be some huge drama potential in bringing their greatest vampire and vampire hunter together?
That had already been mentioned upthread. I think at this point Marvel is probably trying to run as far as they can from Morbius. :)

Not really. Almost every vampire story in modern history hinges on the assumption that the vast majority of people never notice the existence of vampires. Secrecy is built into the genre. And Marvel Comics vampires even have built-in justifications about how the species has been basically wiped out at various times only to be brought back through magical shenanigans, if they choose to use those.

The MCU is realm where the population are fully aware of superpowered beings, aliens, demon-like creatures, etc., yet something as bizarre as people being drained of every drop of their blood volume, and fanged creatures preying on people (vampires do have to hit the streets in order to survive / thrive) would just blend into the psychological wallpaper of the collective? That is a bit hard to believe.

Fuck, I'm not trying to piss anyone off, if you were hanging with some friends and talking about Marvel and someone said "I can't see how Blade is going to fit into all this." that you would be upset? Thought we were all just chatting here, isn't this the speculation thread?

That anyone would curse at / attack other members as "idiots" is all the proof you will ever need about how hyper-defensive some are over a film series.

I was sober. It was SONY level good.

I am days behind, some things had to be cut. Well, fart. Guess sequels are out then.

Comics always lacked a something to engage me.

Movement? Note: Joke.

Funko Pops gives us a small glimpse at Ironheart's suit.

Also, the Russo Brothers are not directing either of the upcoming Avengers films, according to Feige, which is surprising considering they've expressed interest in doing a Secret Wars film.

Belatedly, we have a trailer description for Secret Invasion:

The trailer begins with Jackson’s Fury returning to earth via spaceship, and appearing to Smulders’ Maria Hill at a bar, who states that she’s been unsuccessfully trying to reach him for years. Maria asks Nick why after all this time he decided to come back, and Nick says that there was an issue that needed his attention.

Smulders isn’t exaggerating when she says the series is a darker thriller, as we get quick glimpses of an intense Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Emilia Clarke shooting a gun, Kingsley Ben-Adir with shape-shifting heavies, and Olivia Colman talking to Nick Fury saying “You’re in no shape for this Fury.” We also glimpse Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman’s Everett K. Ross.

It's not hard to believe at all if they've been kept magically hidden, either by their own means or beacuse the sorcerors (or somebody else) were keeping them under wraps somehow. Or if they were all killed off in the past but someone brought them back again as has happened in the comics. Or if they were just really small in number and under tightly controlled rules to not leave any trail of bodies behind them. Etc, etc. It's an extremely simple thing to write around.

See, that's writing for people who never adequately addressed the lack of awareness of vampires in the modern world, and one would ask: why would they be magically hidden--especially in a MCU world where its overpopulated with the super, the supernatural, alien and anything else that fell out of fantasy-themed tree?

Ahh, but the existence of Blade (how he came to be afflicted / spent his formative years) meant they had to have been operating in the world for some time--decades (if Blade will be in his 20s), so they were not hidden away. Anyone can attempt to write around that, but again, his existence means vampires were operating in the world, not hidden away, or recently resurrected.

It's an extremely simple thing to write around.

The comics were never very good at creating reasonable explanations for the general population not knowing about vampires when doctors, superheroes, John and Jane Q. Public, the police, et al., all had run-ins with Dracula (in Tomb of Dracula) and his various groups of vampires. For some reason, writers wanted to take vampires out of the 19th century-styled isolation and drop them in the then-modern day, but were never prepared to address how that would look if set loose on the streets of places like the U.S.

Disney have updated their release schedule to include the first four Phase Seven (!) movies; in case you were worried they'd start slowing down.

February 17th 2023 – “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”
May 5th 2023 – “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”
July 28th 2023 – “The Marvels”
November 3rd 2023 – “Blade”

February 16th 2024 – Untitled Marvel
May 3rd 2024 – “Captain America: New World Order”
July 28th 2024 – “Thunderbolts”
November 8th 2024 – “Fantastic Four”

February 14th 2025 – Untitled Marvel
May 2nd 2025 – “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty”
July 25th 2025 – Untitled Marvel
November 7th 2025 – “Avengers: Secret Wars”

February 13th 2026 – Untitled Marvel
May 1st 2026 – Untitled Marvel
July 24th 2026 – Untitled Marvel
November 6th 2026 – Untitled Marvel

I'm guessing the two untitled Phase 6 movies will be the already-announced Shang-Chi 2 and Doctor Strange 3, since 2 started the 'Secret Wars' setup. I know that misses out Deadpool 3 but I suspect they're going to treat that as it's own separate thing.

Do we actually know there's a Doctor Strange 3 coming in the immediate future with a director and/or writer already attached? I'm more inclined to think July 25th film is Deadpool 3 since they already announced a director and writers back in March.

Sure but nothing has been officially announced, nor has a director or writer(s) have been announced. As oppose to Deadpool 3, which is my main point.

DS2 has made nearly a billion at the box office and was a key part of overall story being told; I'd be astonished if there wasn't a third one and obviously it has to come out before 'Secret Wars'.

Fair point. Then perhaps your previous speculation of Deadpool 3 being a free agent is possible. I just don't see it not not coming out before 2024/5 considering they already have a director (Shawn Levy who did Free Guy with Ryan Reynolds) and writers (returning writers at that).

I doubt I would've ever watched The Eternals all the way through if it wasn't part of the MCU.

Why does he need blending in?

Black Panther 2 sets up Namor and his vast undersea kingdom and we have never heard or even hinted at him before in the MCU. Fans are superexcited to see him onscreen and casual viewers certainly won't dig deep and be annoyed that he wasn't set up slowly.

The same applies to Blade - just because no one talked about Vampires before doesn't mean they can't exist. As people said before here Vampires are by nature secretitive and it's not like every second person has a Vampire as a neighbour. When they do this the MCU can try to link it to something that already exists in the MCU or they don't because it's not relevant for the Vampire Hunter and his prey.

We already have a mini setup with the after credits in Eternals, when Kit Harrington's character is looking at the Ebony Blade and we hear a deep voice outside the picture warning him - that's Blade. We obviously don't know why and how he is there but Blade can fight others as well, it's not like his strength and skills only work against Vampires.

Predictions for the untitled films:

February 16th 2024 – Deadpool 3
February 14th 2025 – Shang-Chi 2
July 25th 2025 – Dr Strange 3
February 13th 2026 – Thor 5
May 1st 2026 – Infinity Watch
July 24th 2026 – Spider-Man 4
November 6th 2026 – X-Men
