Deep Dish Nine is not "the best Star Trek series"; furthermore, it is questionable as to whether it even qualifies as a "true" Star Trek entry.

DS9 as the best series? That’s debatable.

Whether it’s a true Star Trek entry is not open to argument. It is a fact. On the other hand, “Ömer the Tourist”, while looking like Star Trek, is not a true entry.

Is that a series about pizza or something?

There was a thread recently where people got to rank the series and Deep Space Nine ended up at #1, so that's what Trek BBS considers to be the best at least. Personally I consider it to be basically TNG, Part 2, as it continues story threads like the Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, Maquis etc. If you want to see what happens next in the Star Trek setting after All Good Things, DS9 is the series to watch. So it's a bit weird to me when people say it's not Star Trek, as I'm kind of still waiting for another Trek series to get on its level.

Subjective, and not controversial at all.

Definitely controversial. Why don't you enlighten us what constitutes "true Trek"?

Deep Dish Nine is the worst food-based porn I've ever seen. And I watched it three times.

Bear in mind that opinion of mine has nothing to do production values, writing and acting; if I didn't like the show on its own merits (that is, divorced from its title/legacy), I wouldn't give it the time of day. That said, there are some episodes which embody the spirit of Star Trek.

He was Rom's son though. Traditional Ferengi values never really seemed to phase him much, and his Moogie loved him just the way he was. I can see him not making knowing how to read a priority.

Beltran acts just fine when given actual work to do. Cast a man as a piece of scenery, and you're probably not going to get much of a performance. Same thing with Wang, Phillips, and Lien.

I don’t think the “wooden acting/characters” of VOY are really any different than TNG.

Wooden acting in TNG and VOY?

    What?

I don't think there is one best Trek series that stands above the others. I'm being diplomatic. This is how I feel.

There is no objective standard for "best Trek" or "worst Trek". You like what you like. There's a very funny YouTube video about why the Youtuber hates "The Inner Light". Her opinion is just as valid as the prevailing one: I can declare that I disagree with her, but I can't tell her that she's wrong.

Exactly. The idea that there is some standard that makes Trek Trek is one that I find very strange indeed.

What's makes a STAR TREK show Trek?

Usually, I go by the actual title of the series.

Sounds like it'd be a good title for a thread as well.
