Anyone have experience caring for a severely injured rabbit? I think this young rabbit got run over. It's got torn fur on the back and leg, and the leg is in horrible shape (there's bone sticking out). I put it in my cat carrier with a blanket, some water and a heat pad. It's not really doing anything other than changing which way to face while sitting there. If it's still live in the morning, I can take it to a wildlife rehab center when they open.

I'm afraid the outcome may be iffy. Rabbits do not tolerate anesthesia well. It may have other injuries as well. It's going to really depend if the rehab center has a vet that's really good with exotics, which is what rabbits are considered.

So far it's still alive and has no problem drinking water. But for some reason it has to be in the water to drink it. I think its back leg is beyond saving, especially for how long it's been like this.

Probably more with the angle it wants to be at to drink. You could offer a little romaine, arugula or parsley for some greens. A little fruit such as banana, strawberry or blueberries would be ok, but just a little. Their primary diet is hay although alfalfa is generally not recommended as a regular part of their diet.

I don't know where you are located and I'm guessing this is a wild rabbit. Something to be aware of is RHDV2 (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease which has been appearing in the USE. It only affects rabbits but caution needs to be taken to avoid spreading it.

    More Mikey cuteness.

Saw the palomino I've said hi to a few times at the stables I go by on my bikes rides, and it took a little while, but she actually let me pet her some today. At first I could just barely reach her, and just barely pet her side with my finger tips and the side of her face a tiny bit. But after a while she got close enough I was able to pet her side with my whole hand, and I when I pet her shoulder and her neck she actually lifter her head and turned it, and let me pet her face. I only pet her little bit before I lady came and took her out of the corral. The lady never said anything to me, so I'm not sure if she saw me.
I had thought she was a male, but I got another look and she's a mare, and since she's blonde, I decided to start calling her Miranda, after Miranda Lambert.

Sadly, no. I was very disappointed when I saw my first real roadrunner, but now I love them.

I think the one from my earlier post lives in the wash I go through, this is the third or fourth time I've seen one there. They're pretty cool.
My mom was watching a nature program the other day, and they showed a mountain lion pawprint that looked just like a pawprint we saw but couldn't identify in the same park where the donkeys are. So apparently there are mountain lions there....

We're still going there, since we haven't seen any when we're there, but it's a little scary knowing their out there.

How is the rabbit? Hope it's doing better. Has it been taken to a vet to see if the leg can be saved? If it can't it needs to come off which isn't ideal for a rabbit and the vet might say the best option is the worst case scenario.

Didn't take it to a vet. Who knows what they'd charge me. Took it to a wildlife rehabber. We have a couple of those in the area but it was a long drive. They gave it some pain medicine and that was the last I saw of it. Don't know what will happen next For all I know, they're just going to put it down. Compared to the other wildlife they had there (like raccoons), the rabbit was in worse shape than all of them combined.

You went out your way to help a wild animal and the world is a better place because of people like you. In an episode of The Yorkshire Vet it has a story of someone driving down the motorway and seeing something in the corner of their eye so they pulled over and discovered it was a day old boar at the side of the road with his mother no-where to be seen. It was rescued and grew up to become domesticated and then was adopted by a farmer to live a happy life. It brings a tear to my eye to think how it could have easily been killed by a car or predator that first night it lost it's mother if it wasn't for a motorist stopping and rescuing it at the side of a busy motorway but is now enjoying life on a Yorkshire farm. Thanks to the work of someone who took the time to help a wild animal and then a lot of agencies to help get it rehomed.

Mikey!!! He's the little pig I've been posting videos of the last couple weeks.

Frankie was rescued by the women from Happy Hearts, Happy Home and Furviors a couple weeks ago, along with a couple of other horses after they had been abandoned on a property the owner was selling. His ear and the side of his head was covered in cancer that has since been removed.
As for the other horses he was with, one had to be euthanized and the other went to his new home with guy who first found them just a day or two after being rescued.
