Spoilers 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series [Spoiler Discussion]

For the most part I liked Kenobi. It had it's weak moments to be sure, but I can watch Ewan McGregor play Obi-Wan all day. I'd love to see him do more, but think a second season is probably a bad idea. But if they were to do one, I would strongly advise they pretty much leave Vader out of it...I don't think Kenobi and Vader should meet again until A New Hope.

I don't see this point of view, personally. Opinions will vary, sure, but just about everything Kennedy has taken a direct hand in has turned into a train wreck,

I don't love EVERYTHING Filoni has done, but I love way more of it than I don't, and Kennedy and her woke, raging feminism has done severe damage to the franchise. I'm well aware opinions will vary violently on this.

Sounds like you just hate women.

Kennedy is one of the most successful producers in Hollywood.

Just some of her 80's stuff..

Gremlins, Poltergeist, ET, Goonies, Back to the Future...

I mean the list is endless.

What stuff has she wrecked compared to what has been successful?

What exactly is Kathleen Kennedy's role with Lucasfilm? I always see people blaming her for the creative choices in the movies, but I'd been under the impression that she was more on the business side of things. The only credits I've seen her get are as producer, and as far as I can tell she hasn't written, directed, or even gotten a "story by" credit for anything. But some people seem to be acting like she's the one who came up with the stuff in the movies and shows that didn't like.

She is Executive Producer of the shows. Which is the big boss. So yes she has a say in everything. But I get the impression she lets people do their thing. She is successful for a reason.

”woke, raging feminism” wasn’t really the issue with the sequel trilogy or solo. Lack of a plan, lack of coherence and very sloppy writing were.

Pretty much - there was more of a plan/vision with TFA and TLJ but due to the irrational backlash and Carrie Fisher dying tragically, etc, the producers and writers bottled it with the highly forumulaic but kinda messy TRoS.

Too late for that plot-thread now, but before the prequels, I always imagined that Owen or Beru might be a sibling of Kenobi's. It would have made sense in world where Anakin Skywalker didn't grow up on Tatooine with his mother marrying Clieg Lars. It would also explain Owen's seemingly innate dislike of Kenobi, inasmuch as he considered him a danger to Luke.

Putting aside the prequels (and the script/novelization of RotJ), I think having Beru be Anakin's sister makes the most sense. It explains why their names are different, it fits with how she liked Anakin and Owen didn't, it explains why Owen would resent Obi-Wan, it explains how they know anything about him at all in a way "Obi-Wan's brother" or "Anakin's step-brother he met once, for five minutes" doesn't.

Oh, did they finally make that film adaptation of "Heir to the Empire" people were asking for?

Not sure what some people's issues are but I loved this mini-series. It fills in a gap between episodes 3 and 4 quite nicely. They could have shortened it a bit and just had a 2 and half hour movie, but I doubt Disney will do a one off "Star Wars Story" movie again after the box office failure of Solo.

Yeah, I think it's obvious from context what Kennedy meant. Star Wars as a franchise is an (ongoing) original story; it's all new material. Lucas wasn't directly adapted anything when he started (at least not after the rightsholders to Flash Gordon told him to buzz off.) Compare that to the only logical point of comparison: the MCU, which has going on 80 years worth of material to directly draw upon and direct.

But of course none of this matters if all one is interesting in is being obtuse and pithy. I mean "context", "word meaning things"?! Pffft!

We don't use meanings. We live in the Humpty Dumpty world of word meanings now.

Thinking more about it now, I think the show would have worked better if this was only a couple of years after Episode III rather than 10. That way that line in ANH is more significant when he says it’s been a long time rather than just 9 years.
Another controversial opinion I have is that Vader should have had a different looking suit here. Something that would make him more agile and shows his face more. During his fight it gets badly damaged by Kenobi that he has to go back to his older suit.
I just think it would give the show and battle a unique look, not to mention giving them new merchandising ideas. The Vader Mk. II suit so to speak.
