Archer’s Swaggering

CorollaCaptain

Ensign
Red Shirt
So, I watch ENT on TV every night, and one thing I’ve noticed that is REALLY super-distracting, is that Archer is always… and I mean ALWAYS swaggering. The man cannot just stand still for a full second. It’s just really noticeable and jarring… he’s literally always swaggering, in every scene. Anyone else notice this?

Was he still doing it in the third season, when he seemed to be pissed off all the time?

Shran swaggers.

Archer isn't the swagger type, imho. I would call it more of a restless fidgeting thing.

Actually, I just think that's Scott Bakula's gait. I first saw it in QL.

I think anyone a put off by a performance for such an arbitrary, pointless reason is searching for things to dislike rather than just enjoying the show.

Besides, shouldn't a Captain have a bit of a swagger?

I never noticed Bakula's 'swagger', but as another has pointed out, I think thats just how the actor himself moves.

As for Sisko's ball-fondling... there are many reasons why DS9 is my least favorite of the non-new Treks. If you call what other captains do 'swaggering', what do you call it when someone punches a 'god' (Q) in the nose? I always felt like Sisko was talking down to everyone else. Archer, on the other hand, shows the true spectrum of human emotions.

But if I had to vote on a 'worst captain of all time', it would be Seth McFarlane in The Orville (which we all know is a Trek clone, he gladly admits this). If only his ego hadn't been so huge that he had to cast himself as captain - his acting is appallingly bad. I barely was able to make it halfway through the first season, which is a damn shame, because I really enjoyed the rest of the show and cast. Have you seen his scenes in real Trek? A piece of wood could have been less wooden. On the bright side, he makes me wish for more of Sisko's space-Jesus.

I assumed Archer moved around like that because he had back problems or something.

I think I read somewhere that was the behind-the-scenes reason why Riker did that leg over the chair thing so much instead of sitting down in a conventional manner.

That's right. A back injury I believe. That is actually how Frakes mounts a chair IRL.

Yeah, I probably shouldn’t use the word swagger, but I honestly can’t think of the proper word ATM. But yeah, I’m referring to how he’s literally swaying from side to side every waking moment of the series. I never noticed it when the show first aired, but now that I have daily reruns, it’s extremely noticeable.

Yep! For me, the way he moves is truly one of the series great strengths.

Enterprise... it may fall short in a lot of ways, but if nothing else you will always see hot men with sexy swagger. :bolian:

Gait?
