The USFL is back? Why?

The USFL finally made the news. The Michigan Panthers released QB Shea Patterson, who was the No. 1 overall pick for the new league. The New Orleans Breakers claimed him.

With this weekend's games, the USFL has tied the AAF for longevity of the recent "major" spring league attempts at 8 weeks. The XFL lasted 5 weeks.

Paxton Lynch threw two interceptions that turned into 15 points for the other team. Then he fumbled on a goal line sneak and the defense recovered (which later became a touchdown, so 22 points off turnovers). Time to bring him back to the NFL.

Lynch was definitely back to his NFL form today. Poor decisions, even poorer ball security. Have the Jacksonville Jaguars expressed interest in him yet?

There are more people in attendance for the first playoff game in Ohio, but it's still pretty bad.

The Philadelphia Stars have been in every USFL championship game across the 39 years it has existed.

I just came across an article for Major League Football. Has anyone ever heard of this? They're going to play in the fall and have a smaller budget than the AAF, XFL or USFL. There are only four teams -- Arkansas Attack, Virginia Armada, Alabama Airborne and Ohio Force. Players to be paid $2000 per game plus $500 if they win.

Can't imagine how bad the QB play will be.

They've been trying to get off the ground for the better part of a decade. Honestly, I’ll be surprised if they ever play a down.

Should probably just run the Flying Wedge every play.

So one of the hubs this year is going to be in Memphis, Tennesse. They're hosting a revived Showboats and I'm not sure who else. Any advice on visiting Memphis? I want to go down and see a game in May.

It looks like the Showboats are replacing the Tampa Bay Bandits.

Tampa Bay is out this season and Memphis is in. Houston will play in the Memphis hub city with the Showboats. Houston now has two minor league teams, XFL and USFL.

If you like good food and music, try to go around the Memphis in May festival. It's been about 15 years since I lived in town (oh I feel so old), and a lot has changed, but the streetcars are running again, and if you're not in a hurry, you can get around downtown with them or just walk or the uber thing. Beale St is tourist friendly after dark.

If the Grizz are still in the playoffs by then (and they will be! This is the year) and you're wanting to take in an NBA game, Fed Ex Forum is right off Beale. A lot of tourist dives on Beale, but Rum Boogie used to be the realist of them. I don't know if that's still true or if the pool table upstairs is still warped.

I'll try to get over there to see a game or two, also.
