Spoilers 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' series [Spoiler Discussion]

Yes I feel the same. Around the time of TROS, when JJ Abrams was asked if Palpatine's return was planned all along, he gave this non-answer about how, when you consider all nine movies as a unified saga, it would be weird if Palpatine didn't return. Apparently he and Larry Kasdan had thrown around the idea of Palpatine returning when they first started working on the sequel trilogy. Also, Kathleen Kennedy said that Palpatine's return had "been in the blueprint for a long time" for Episode IX, though they hadn't quite figured out how they would make it happen. But if it really was something that they were definitely going to do, TFA and TLF sure didn't give the audience any hints about it. Abrams also said that when he read Rian Johnson's script for TLJ, it didn't get in the way of any ideas that Abrams and Kasdan wanted to do for the trilogy. ...Which makes me think they weren't decided on exactly what they wanted to do to wrap up the whole saga.

If there had been a more coherent overall plan from the get-go, I wonder what could have worked well as foreshadowing in TLJ and TROS for Palpatine's eventual return, without making it too obvious early on. Perhaps seeing Snoke himself in his private chambers making a transmission to some unseen figure who is obviously his superior? Or Rey and/or Kylo coming across cloning chambers with Snoke pieces like we would see in TROS, earlier on? Or TLJ ending on a cliffhanger with that "mysterious broadcast" described in TROS's opening crawl but we never actually got to hear for ourselves. Again, that's in a hypothetical scenario in which such story developments in TROS had actually been laid out in advance. Instead, it all just comes out of left field like the retcon of Blofeld showing up out of the blue in SPECTRE and revealing that he was secretly behind every last thing that happened to Bond in the previous three movies.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing this week's episode of "Obi-Wan Kenobi."

Kor

Daisy Ridley has stated she was getting calls that they were tinkering with her backstory/origin immediately before if not during actual production.

JJ had no friggin' plan whatsoever.

And, you're, right, it makes zero sense to bring back a dead character for no reason when he wasn't part of the story at all, they don't even pretend to justify his presence and he has no relation to the characters whatsoever.

OMFG, you lot can't be taken anywhere, can you?
If you're all so desperate to relitigate the relative merits of the ST, the PT, or the damn Ewok cartoon, how about you start a thread on the subject so you can futilely repeat the same three opinions back and forth at each other ad nauseum to your hearts' content, and not derail this thread for the second time in a week?
Might be more practical than that - in Rebels, the Inquisitors had the dead body of Master Luminara Unduli preserved and used to lure in remaining Jedi like Kanan, who would be able to sense if Luminara genuinely wasn't present at the base where the trap was set. The implication is that some form of "Force signature" remains around the corpse of a being strong in the Force, that is recognisable to those who knew them in life. Kanan did say his impression of Unduli via the Force felt wrong, but wasn't able to pin that down to "she's dead"...

The bodies in the mausoleum may be intended for similar ploys. That or the Inquisitors just like taking trophies.
That may be part of it, but these bodies look far more well preserved than Luminara's did. I think it's more likely that this is going to tie into Wayland and whatever cloning project they wanted Grogu's genetic material for. Hell, for all we know Grogu could have been in there somewhere!
Yet they keep using Plo Koon anytime they want to film secret Luke Skywalker scenes. Wonder if they have it in their mind that he maybe survived.
I didn't see a Kel Dor anywhere, though I did spot what looked like a Ongree. Might have even been Master
Kcaj since IIRC he was one that list of Jedi still at large in the Vader comic a few years back.

The Kel Dor Jedi is visible at 18:54 in the episode on the far right of the trophy hallway.

They should reboot the OT.

The current owners of the SW franchise do not need to take a long walk off of short pier by attempting to reboot that which they have never been able to surpass in terms of creativity or cultural impact.

TLJ is the third best Star Wars movie ever made.

...only if The Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor were the top two films. :D

It was clearly a joke dude.

Anyway, good episode. I was expecting ep 4 of a 6 part story to be a slow burn. Wouldn't really call it that per se but obviously the big stuff will come next week and wrap up as it were in the finale.

After this and the visit from Cal Kestis and co, they should really reinforce those windows in their base

Cal has already been. That was years earlier

I know, where did I contradict that? "After this and the visit from Cal Kestis and co..." I wasn't saying that was afterwards...
?

Another thing, I feel sorry for that actor playing Luke Skywalker. Remember that press attention a few weeks ago, little actor makes it big, or whatever. 4 episodes in and he hasn't really been in it. I just picture him getting picked on at school "You're not in Star Wars!"

I still think there is a dream sequence coming. Kenobi imagines Anakin raising those kids.

That's not a Kel Dor, it's an Ongree, like I said.
Kel Dor have four digits per hand, not three, their eyes are neither on stalks, nor are they below their mouths. The Ongree on the other hand . . . ;)

Incidentally; I think we're officially out of trailer footage, so there's no telling where the show goes from here. Honestly I'm surprised assaulting Fortress Inquisitorious wasn't the finale set piece!

Leia's reaction to Ben's death is to console Luke. Her first instinct is always selfless compassion, which tells you everything you need to know about her and why she could have been every bit the Jedi Luke was, if she chose that path. Of course how much of that is her trying to avoid having to deal with her own crushing grief is another question, but this show does add a little extra context to that scene.

Well, "Star Wars" doesn't even seem to be aware that Leia just suffered an extraordinarily crushing, incomprehensible loss. She never is even given a moment to react to it.

Even later, when she's in her cell, she's just kind of half napping, half sexily lounging.

I mean, the movie is of course supposed to be a light-hearted romp that doesn't pause for mourning and sadness.

But it is somewhat comical in retrospect. Luke shakes off the death of his "parents" (while technically aunt and uncle, they're the only family he's ever known) and doesn't look back and Leia does the same thing, times a couple of billion.

Only Obi Wan is briefly mourned because he's a character the audience cares about, not just the characters.

Nope, actually would like to see that. Make it a limited series. 3 episodes or so for each original film. I would for starters get rid of the Luke and Leia kiss and would change the Ewoks to Wookies.

But back to Obi. One of my predictions came true at least. This is the series that shows us how Leia's hatred for the Empire was ignited.
