Yep, just logos in the credits. Each show has different show runners for the most part and different feels. Even Picard and SNW who "shared" Goldsman don't feel much alike.

To be honest I suspect the character was conceived with that name as part of Secret Hideout's hobby of linking absolutely everything back to an existing "iconic" Trek thing, hence why Burnham is Spock's sister and visits the Mirror Universe, and why Pike, Spock and Number One boarded the Discovery, and why Picard was whisked off to the past to meet Guinan with Q and Soong and Seven of Nine and the Borg Queen there, and why now in SNW we're fighting the Gorn and going to the Amok Time arena and hanging out with Christine Chapel. It wasn't enough to create a cool and tough new security chief, she had to be connected to Khan and be a previous captive of the Gorn. Her grandma probably got eaten by the Planet Killer while visiting Trelane on the Shore Leave planet. I'm just amazed they had the restraint to stop themselves making Ortegas, one of their few all-original* characters, the daughter of Richard Daystrom or something.

Yeah, it's annoying as hell, and detracts from my enjoyment. "Small world syndrome".

I don't mind the back story for Number One as we didn't know much abut her to begin with.

Small Universe Syndrome is also my most suspension of disbelief breaking trope but most people on this forum love it, as do the producers, so it's not going away anytime soon unfortunately

In the context of the Enterprise shows it sort of makes sense. Real world organizations tend to see the same names on the top all the time. The Enterprise is the elite fleet in starship. The same heavy hitters keep showing up.

It won't because hitting the audience in the feels is far more important than expanding the world. I guess Stone was really right when he said that he and Kirk were among few people who had done something unique. We can only watch these unique people.

Really all her relation to Khan has done is give her a drive to prove herself because of the stigma of being distantly related to him as well as it's impact on finding out her friend and mentor was an Augment. I'm glad they didn't give her super strength or some wacky powers.

But it does make sense that some of Khan's descendants would still be alive 250 years later and doing everything they can to downplay their connection to some of the worst global criminals of the pre-warp period. Face it, someone related to Hitler or Saddam Hussein or Stalin will be alive 200 years from now and likely doing everything they can to downplay that they're related to a man who killed thousands or even millions of innocent people.

Yes, agreed. Although I don't naturally take to the character, as I find her overly coarse, her indefatigability and resilient attitude is quite obvious in what we've seen of her so far. I hope she softens a little bit over time.

Indeed. There's a stubborn quality to her which I prefer over "Well, that person was evil so I must not have their name." She's more "I'm my own person and will make my own choices." There's value in that.

Yeah that would have been dumb. Let's hope they don't press the augment thing later and she somehow develops super strength. It's stretching credibility enough that her first name rhymes with Khan and that Spock never even mentions her in TOS and meet Khan was like meeting a person of a certain lineage everyone had forgotten about for a very long time.
