    So.. Rumour..
Taika movie seems to be next up, maybe.. As always.. Whenever they roll film I'll believe it.

Also Lucasfilm seems to think that Solo was a bomb because of the recast of Han..(dumb) .. So that may be the reason there going whole hog on the deep fake like Luke instead of recasting a younger actor/actress to legacy roles.. Which sucks..

Yes, I read that today. That's what Kathleen Kennedy said. It's unfair. We get a Lando Calrissian series but bringing back Alden Ehrenreich can't be done?

I thought Alden and Donald crushed it myself with their performances. As a movie, Solo was fine but I’d like to see the characters with their own story where we don’t need to see how Han’s pants get their bloodstripes.

I'll be blunt and say I think they are quite wrong, however, this is also a place where Lucasfilm has tried to push hard in to with a variety of different deepfakes. It's pretty clear that it is a technological frontier that they want to explore, which I do welcome. I may disagree with the rationale, as I found Solo quite enjoyable and watchable, but if they are going to push technological development then I will at least be curious to see what happens.

I wouldn't hold my breath for that series... Glover's got lots else to do, and there doesn't seem to be much interest at Lucasfilm in exploring the actual OT war years.

I have a feeling if we get another movie or series focused on the OT characters when they were younger, we'll get new actors.
You can get away with the CGI characters for a smaller supporting role in movie, or an episode of TV, but I just can't see it being practical for the lead character in a big blockbuster movie, or an entire series.

I read the Vanity Fair Kathleen Kennedy interview. Lucasfilm did a big, splashy tone teaser for Rogue Squadron as their next movie, but now Kennedy says "we kind of pushed off to the side for the moment. Patty is developing the script further. Then we will talk about how that connects to the central spine that we’re working on."

She also said, of the rumored Kevin Feige project:

"[That’s] the rumor mill. Kevin, I think everybody knows, is a huge Star Wars fan. He’s clearly been inspired by Star Wars in the way in which he’s handled Marvel. I know he’s got a lot on his plate right now. I would love to see at some point what movie he might come up with. But right now, no. There isn’t anything specifically on the horizon." [UPDATE: This interview with Kennedy was in March, and last week screenwriter Michael Waldron told Variety he was working on a script for the rumored Feige project: “We’re finally into it in earnest.”]

So, in two months, the Feige project went from "[not] specifically on the horizon" to active development. In short: can anything this CEO says concerning the franchise's future plans be trusted?? :rommie:

Why should I care? Talk to me when it's in the theaters.

Press releases and interviews are junk, to be polite.

    This.

Whatever you thought of The Last Jedi (it was good I will fite u irl) at least he tried to do something interesting with the setting and didn't just default to fan pandering.

They also take place weeks or months ahead of publication, so any comment as to how soon a thing is happening is usually deliberately vague.

So, Taika Waititi is a droll guy who tends to say humorous things, but it sure doesn't sound as though his Star Wars movie project will be cinema-ready by the end of next year:

“I’m trying to write the Star Wars idea at the moment,” Waititi shares in an interview with the New York Times. “I’ve got to see how that goes, because once I submit it, that might determine when it gets made or if it gets made, even.”

    Er...

Indeed, so, let's get specific: according to Wiki, "In February 2013, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the development of two Star Wars standalone films, one written by Lawrence Kasdan. Shortly thereafter, it was reported that Disney was working on a film featuring Solo." This, of course, came after the summer 2012 announcement of a sequel trilogy.

So, in the nine years and counting since early 2013, Lucasfilm hasn't announced (as in, named a director and a release date, and stuck with both) a single new Star Wars movie. In that time frame, they've only announced one new movie at all, Indy 5, which itself was known to be in active development since before 2013. Even given Disney's pivot to streaming content and the pandemic, that's... kind of bonkers, IMO.

    Good for them.

Maybe they will stop producing Star Wars content altogether then.

Well one would hope that when he was hired to make a movie that he would have at least presented a story idea, no matter how vague..

Sure details worked out latter when you get ur budget etc. But if he's still in the pitch idea mode.. Yeah.. 2023 will have no movie.. Which is quite sad.

Given how strict NDAs are he might not be able to say anything at this point. Recall that Ewan McGregor lied to audiences as well.

Oh, well. No Star Wars movie for me to watch. How sad. Guess I'll go rewatch the other films in the series.

Sounds to me like a pretty standard response for a project that's still in the conceptual stage. From what I gather Taika's approach to writing is fairly freeform and iterative, so it doesn't surprise me that he's not really in a position where he's willing to talk about details, because they could all be different by the time it's done.

Also: always amusing when the same supposed fans that complain about oversaturation are also the one's that are first to whine and hand wring about movie announcements being too sparse and vague. Oh well!

^ You're obviously not referring to me there, as I don't recall saying that SW is being oversaturated. (I do think, however, that it was a mistake by Disney to release Lightyear in the middle of a SW D+ season.) But, even if you were, there's nothing inherently hypocritical in opining that there should be a balance between this franchise's streaming series and big-screen movies, and that lots of series mixed with zero movies in development is no balance at all.

Indeed. It's quite amusing to watch as if wishing will make the film spring in to existence.

At this point in time, it looks like Lucasfilm is pushing on the shows. And you know what? It makes sense, it generates money and it is causing interest in the franchise to continue to grow. I don't see the downside to the lack of films, other than "Well, Star Wars always had films!" argument which is about as convincing as telling me we always eat steak on Saturdays.

Star Wars fandom has a funny way of defining balance. For years it was claimed that balance in the Force means all light side and no dark side, which is the exact opposite of balance.
