I'm thinking they could have been very lax and not that careful about being discrete and the Doctor still would not have noticed in the slightest that these women were sharing a bed.

I doubt they'll bring this up next month when Tegan returns.

Just had a cool thought.

The reason the TARDIS couldn't get to Heathrow, why it kept missing its target, to take Tegan home, is that Nyssa kept fouling up the co-ordinates, so that she would not lose her girlfriend.

Yet Nyssa left, and insisted Tegan would not talk her out of it.

That whole setup with their room was off in the first place since that was Romana's old room... which the Doctor had jettisoned.
 
There's also lifespan to consider because there's a question about how much time passed between Time Flight and Arc of Infinity.

Tegan could be getting older and older, and Nyssa stays just the same.

Enough time for Tegan to lose her job, buy a new outfit, arrange a holiday in Amsterdam, and get into trouble. Like maybe a week or so.
 
I might be mistaken but I'm pretty sure Tegan said a year had passed for her since she got left behind.

More time passed for the Doctor and Nyssa and Erimem than it did for Tegan, because they had all those Big Finish Audio adventures.

Also the Doctor makes a comment about a hundred years having passed between thinking about repairing the monitor and actually fixing the monitor, at the beginning of Arc of Infinity, which could be a stray comment, or a hundred years could gave literally passed since they misplaced Tegan.
 
Erimem was with the Fifth Doctor and Peri, not the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa. Thomas Brewster and Hannah Bartholomew are the companions Big Finish has slotted into the Fifth Doctor/Nyssa gap, though both were only with the Doctor for a short time (three stories each).

Nyssa went through all her time with the Doctor (including a very long stretch between Time-Flight and Arc of Infinity when it was just her and Five), left, got married, had a daughter, aged 25 years, ended up back with the Doctor/Tegan/Turlough, got young again, left again and seemingly aged to death in E-Space only to get yanked back out and thrust into the Time War to command a medical ship - all without ever once mentioning having romantic feelings for Tegan. Given her advanced medical background, and that Tegan (when last 'seen' in BF) is dying of a brain tumor in Australia in 2006, I'm guessing the War Doctor (who was aware of the latter's illness) arranges to have Nyssa sent there at some point to escape the War and save Tegan. From there, it's a lot like Graham and Grace's story.

A BBC novel featuring a post-Terminus Nyssa and a post-Assassin 4th Doctor says she was on the TARDIS for two years. As with the list of TARDIS landings in Goth Opera, the later advice was 'ignore it'.
 
Never? Sometimes people can be just friends, who have no inclination to copulate. It seems juvenile to put in "shipping" where none existed or where none was intended, especially when sifting through decades' worth of characters to do inconsequential with. Or, if nothing else, I'm sure one day that someone reviving his shows will make their own audio plays years later and do some more retconning in the same ways. Same conditions, so all of a sudden it's now an offensive idea? Not anymore so than before, surely?

That said, the reality is that their episodes are ambiguous and can let anybody think what they want. Seems like a decent compromise and fans can retcon to their hearts' desire. I'm pretty sure there's already been slashfic covering the duo and done better a long time ago too, so why not jump in and do more of the same?

They are a couple.

It happened.

We just don't know when it started.

I'm still watching season 21...

In Awakening they try to make Tegan the May Queen and sacrifice her to the Devil, because they think she's a virgin, or because they think she is a lesbian, and lesbians are virgins to one dimemsional thugs.

In Warriors of the Deep, Tegan And Turlough are running for their life and HOLDING HANDS. So maybe Tegan is bisexual?
 
That’s just modern story telling. They love making characters gay these days.
I don’t see Nysa and Tegan as a couple. Nysa too much of a dullard for her.
Plus I thought she was already married. She had a kid called Adric.

Nyssa comes from an advanced world that might as well be future, so she probably can't even imagine that there is a stigma to girl on girl.
