How do you rate Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness?

So that is who Charlize Theron was playing. Thanks. I had no idea.
I forgot to mention Bruce freaking Campbell. I didn’t recognise him at first but I’m glad he got a cameo.
 
As to the question of Why would you call your own universe, #838 though? I think it's more likely they made contact with another universe and got the number scheme from that universe and in that universe they had designated the illuminati's universe #838.

The whole slaughter of the characters felt very DC animated movie hero torture-porn to be honest. I just wasn't really feeling it at all.

I'd probably go maybe between 6/10 and 7/10. So I guess C+ to B-? I didn't hate, didn't love it... As I said the illuminati hero-slaughter didn't connect for me. I really loved the effects of that music note fight, that was pretty cool.

Some of the humor in the movie feel flat and the tone of the characters didn't seem to be realistic at times for the scenes and stuff that was going on for them.
 
It’s crazy that this film had both Patrick Stewart and Anson Mount and it came out on the same day (in most countries at least) that finale of Picard and premiere of Strange New Worlds happened.

It wasn’t that bad, and let’s not forget Ultimatum. That was the worst by far and that was Marvel.
 
I avoided all the spoilers, articles and interviews for this one. I saw the initial trailer or commercial one time only and that was it so I went in pretty raw.

I was surprised at how the movie started in media res and the movie never let up for long. America Chavez' origin was all of about sixty seconds other than whatever was relayed along the way in snippets of dialogue. It assumes you've seen all the Marvel backstory and it's not particularly interested in rehashing it in detail for whoever hasn't. If you haven't watched Wandavision and What If? and whatever else, too bad. I'd say it's 2 hour runtime is equal to 2 and a half to three of other movies given the breakneck pace and disposing of typical setup.

The Illuminati really was a bust. Since they didn't get the drop on Wanda the more powerful characters didn't get much of a chance to flex and why didn't Reed try some super-science thing? You got cosmic level powers and Reed is going to try to stretch to stop Wanda? They were supereasy, barely an inconvenience... They also seemed to COMPLETELY undervalue the power of the dreamsync or whatever it was called. It wasn't enough to sink the movie but it seemed an unneeded detour. It was interesting that it was the cartoon Professor and not the one from the movies.

I felt that Raimi as auteur put his mark on the movie and was a bit of a throwback to his older style of moviemaking. We get Bruce Campbell not only beating himself up but even a cameo by the Oldsmobile Delta 88. It felt as if the movie was more assured the longer it went on. Once dead Strange entered the picture "Raimi MCU" was in full effect.

I was entertained anyway. I'm not 100% sure how "good" the movie was but it kept my interest and moved fast enough not to second guess it. I think there was less casual humor than most Marvel movies as well, at least it didn't seem to be pushing it as hard. It will be interesting to see what the reception will be like for this one.
 
What If wasn't needed for this. They weren't the same characters from that show. The Illuminati were just heroes who lived in that specific universe and that "evil" Strange at the end was not the same one from What If.

It's a shame really. They played it really safe with the multiverse stuff. they didn't go all out like DC did in the ArrowVerse.
Speaking of which, you'd think that alternate Wanda would be more surprised waking up bloodied and in the Bleed (a Doctor Who term). Instead she just went home.

Felt like something out of 'The Boys' or 'Invincible'. I had to agree with Strange when he called them idiots.
 
I thought this was really good. Raimi's finger prints stylistically were al over it but still very much a Feige gig too.

It didn't go as all out as I thought it might and I wonder if Covid had anything to do with it. The Illuminati sequence was disappointingly staid. The casting was brilliant and the bit outside of the council chamber was good but the chamber bit? Yaaaawn.

Some of the exposition in the film was rather clumsily handled too.

Saw it without the kids yesterday, didn't see anything which is making me not go back with them this evening. They are both over 8 though, there's a couple of bits which means I wouldn't take an under 8.

Love Charlize turning up at the end. Though it took me a moment to realise who she was playing and I wondered for half a second was she a missing Eternal. More varied costuming perhaps, Marvel??

The end, end credits scene was top draw trolling and hilarious.

To me "the Bleed" is inter-dimensional space in between earths from Wildstorm comics' The Authority/Storm Watch of the mid 90s to mid 2000s. Google doesn't lock on to anything whovian.

Edit: Wait, credited as 'X-Men '97' exactly? That's the name of the new (unreleased) Disney+ animated sequel.

Wow. Glad to know they're retaining some of the theme.

That's what it said when I googled the music credits (take with grain of salt). I noticed it in the theater but don't remember exactly how it was credited, X-Men '97 Theme or X-Men Animated or whatever.

Not at all, a ton of actors do both. Krasinski even did both in both A Quiet Place movies, so he has some experience with acting in and directing a CGI heavy movie.

That would be my assumption, that they're pretty much treating the screen and comics multiverses as completely separate entities.

Yeah, a quote I read from one of the creators yesterday implied that the series might be canon to the MCU. So it sounds like there's a chance it might end up being the backstory for this Xavier.

I saw the movie this morning, and I really, really enjoyed it. The story was pretty good, and gave us some really nice character stuff for Strange and Wanda/Scarlet Witch.
Elizabeth Olson really knocked it out the park with this one, and was easily one of the best MCU villains we've gotten so far. I thought it flowed pretty well from where we left off, especially if you take her extreme behavior here as an effect of her spending so much time with the Darkhold, and not how a clear headed Wanda would have acted.
Really like the introduction of America, the actress did a great job.
As a big X-Men and FF fan, I loved seeing Reed and Xavier as part of the Illuminati. It was little disappointing that they were wiped out by Scarlet Witch so quick. I guess this means that we'll probably be seeing Krasinski again as Reed in the FF movie, since they seem to be sticking to the same actors as the different multiversal versions of the characters. I have to admit, I did give a little yelp when Reed mentioned his wife and kids. I can't wait who they cast Sue, Johnny, and Ben, and if we get Valeria and Franklin in their movie.
There was some great action, with some cool magic. I especially got a kick out the music fight with Evil Strange, that was fun.
This was also by far the creepiest MCU movie so far.
I didn't hear about Charlize Theron, so her showing up in the post-credits scene as Clea was a huge surprise. Definitely looking forward to seeing what they do with her in the next movie.
