Spoilers Star Trek: Picard General Discussion Thread

Another interview with Sir Patrick with quite a bit more hints and info about season 3 and the TNG cast returns: https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/pa...-2-finale-next-generation-reunion-1235259761/

It sounds like as if he’s saying they’re returning at different times throughout the season, which would explain why so many other PIC characters are being shoved aside - if they’re going into each character individually, things are gonna take up a lot of time. And he’s changing his tune regarding playing Jean-Luc again, it seems he’s now in the “nah” corner - this isn’t unexpected, but keep in mind that he has said this before… pretty much after every TNG movie, lol. ;)

I think they may do something similar to what they have done this season with an episode or two at the beginning where they are all together and then a series of separate story lines with a couple of the characters, and everyone coming back together closer to the end.

Well, Beverly has speaking roles in at least the first 6 episodes, so she might be one of the first.

Following Gates McFadden's tweet about that, she and Terry Matalas both hinted Beverly is in more than six, with Matalas hinting that Beverly has a major story arc...so my guess is she is going to have a lot of scenes with Patrick Stewart.

Marina might be in fewer episodes because she was for sure in the UK from late October until after the holidays and the only TNG actor on the convention circuit while season 3 was filming.

Watched Et In Arcadia Ego part 1. Mm. I liked some bits. The alt-Soji was cool. Some moments.

Unfortunate though for me. First, Brent Spiner makes me grind my teeth as anything other than Data… Worse though is the episodes schizophrenia-like state regarding what should be done with Jurati. It’s like they forgive her, but they don’t and she’s just allowed to walk around? The goodbye to Rios was odd… I don’t know. Feeling a bit aimless as a finale, but that’s pretty much as I remember it?

Good moments, bogged down by odd writing choices.

Well it kinda worked with Pike, the fandom got the Pike show it wanted - so why not have it work for Seven as well? ;)

Oh yes, getting a show on Annika/Seven's adventures would be great and preferably with some familiar faces from Voyager and Picard. The character grew a lot and I think that Jeri Ryan could finally get her own show, now. :)

Seven is a big and interesting character that's relatively well known, and it gives the PTB an avenue to keep playing around with the Borg. I'd like it to happen.

I wouldn't be surprised if the series ends with Picard's death.

I wouldn't be surprised either, but I hope that they don't. I know it's trite but I'd be happy for the gang to be back together with Soji in Data's place, Picard picks and star, "engage!" and then blackout. I think this crew deserves a happy, open ending, hopefully on an Enterprise.

I know it's sentimental, just my opinion of course. I want the final episode to load up with saccharine. To the brim.

Tolian Soran: So Guinan, we've just been ripped from Nexus paradise, our homeworld has been assimilated, and no one here really cares about us because everyone's crying about some guy called James Kirk. I'm going to go work on building some superweapons to get back to the Nexus. What are you going to do?

Guinan: Visit Earth and vandalize the grave of some old "friend" called Cristobal Rios who knew all along this would happen to us and never said a word for decades.
Why do we assume Rios knows that Guinan's home world was one of those assimilated by the Borg? He'd never met her before, and the assimilation of her homeworld happened long before the Federation ever encountered the Borg. The Borg are known to have assimilated many hundreds or thousands of civilisations, I doubt anyone walks around with a memorised list of them in their heads. He may not have told her about it because he simply didn't know. Picard only knows about it because Guinan told him.
Everything's in place now for an Assignment Earth/World War 3 tv show starring Santiago and Isa and Sol Rodriguez
And young Guinan. Let's not forget her. She'd be there or thereabouts, too.
Gotta pave the way for the legacy characters. Hurd will be the only original character, no? Oh, and Briones?
We don't know about Briones, but she seems unlikely, she was also involved in other projects during production.

Producers: This is definitely not going to be TNG2.0. It is a completely new show with a completely new cast, who we want you all to love.
Also producers: Okay, now that you've had time to get attached, we are going to summarily dispose of most of the original cast of the show so we can make TNG2.0.

Talk about bait and switch! And I say that as someone who loves TNG and is - or was - excited to catch up with the rest of the crew.

It's STILL not going to be TNG 2.0 even though they're now disposing of most of the show's original characters to have a TNG reunion. That's gonna be the final catch. ;)

Yeah, I know. But you know what I mean.

I do, yes. And I agree with you that this is not fair to either the original characters and their actresses/actors or the fans of those characters. I'm getting VERY strong "These Are The Voyages" vibes here. That one was sold to the fans as a "love letter" as well, just as this one is now supposed to be "a proper send-off". One would think producers would learn from that TATV mistake, but I guess now we're not just making a final episode that has TNG - but also not TNG because we're not making TNG 2.0 - walking all over a show, now we're creating an entire SEASON that does it... :shifty:;)

I would have preferred for them to make another season with the characters they established. There was no need for the TNG cast for anything other than maybe cameo appearances. It's been DECADES since the TNG crew essentially split up in Nemesis. Jean-Luc served with these officers for maybe a fraction of his whole Starfleet career. It's beyond me why there is so much obsession around these characters (but then, I didn't grow up with TNG, I never watched it when I was young, maybe this has to do with fannish feelings of "MY CHILDHOOD", idk). TNG had its time. I wish they'd left it be. And I'm saying this as someone who loves TNG.

But, alas, they're doing what they're doing. All I can do as a Sir Patrick fan is buckle up and brace for the hate impact once people realize that this won't be the TNG nostalgia fest they're expecting because the show will still insist on NOT re-hashing TNG, and the other characters will be in places that are just as different as the one Jean-Luc was in at the beginning of PIC. :shifty:

Watched Et In Arcadia Ego Part 2... Again, moments, but it all feels so rushed. Soong is the Charles Manson of synths until he isn't and turns good. I also guess those are the often referenced evil robot space tentacles and... yes, that's silly.

Copy paste fleet... I didn't twig this last time around, but it's really obvious in hindsight and doesn't look great.

There were good things. The final scene between Data and Picard was worth waiting for and nice to end on an "engage".

One thing I recall is the writers saying a lesson they'd learnt during Season 1, going into Season 2, was to have the ending figured out before they started writing. It really does show in Season 1 that they weren't very sure about their course. There's loads of disparate locations in the season that don't entirely cohere, there's storylines that seem to peter out and characters like Elnor who the writers seem to have invented without any clear idea what a character like that is for.

As it is, by the end of the season I'm wondering will things get any better for displaced Romulans, what's going on with the Borg now (which I guess I'll see in Season 2) and are Starfleet going to clean up their act... but none of the above, which were major plot points in the early episodes, seem to have gone anywhere. Then there's Picard's illness, raised in the first episode and then tucked away till I'd forgotten it when it finally came around. Then the whole thing ends with about 15 synths in a brutalist garden, watching nanites build a tower...

It's a 7/10 for the whole season for me. Pretty much my same feeling the first time around. It's good to see JLP and see the universe progress beyond Nemesis. I just can't help feeling it could have been so much more and I'm hoping Season 2 is an improvement.

it is however it's still remain the weakest ''stream trek'' thus far but who knows maybe the ''fan wank'' that season 3 is shaping up to be might change that

Well there is a giant butt hole in space that some monster will come out that threatens the whole galaxy.

And the new kind borg are the guardians at the gate.

But before it is defeated in the last episode we will get 9 episodes of

Beverly dealing with her husband's death

Worf dealing with his dad's death

Riker dealing with his transporter clone getting stabbed to death in a cardassian prison riot.

Geordi dealing with his mom disappearing in-between star base runs.

From what they've described, I don't think season 3 is fan wank.
Each TNG character has a purpose, and they won't be in every single episode.

Fan wank to me would be them just being in every episode just for the sake of being there.
