Spoilers Could we end up in a totally different timeline?

I didn’t see this before I posted in the ep9 thread but I had the same thought. No way Queen Jurati lets the destruction/slaughters happen.

I mean, no El Aurian massacre means no refugees for the E-B to rescue which means Kirk is still alive and the E-D didn’t get destroyed. No Wolf 359 or Locutus means Jennifer goes with Ben to DS9 and Jean Luc is still estranged from Robert. Lore is still alive and Data still doesn’t have emotions, etc…

unless they resolve it, when they return to the 25th century it’s a totally different timeline they will be returning to.

I don't think they'll do this. Getting rid of "The Best of Both Worlds" not only changes too much other Star Trek, but it'll prevent future series or episodes in this regime from referring back to it. I don't see it. Most importantly, when they have the TNG crew together again next season, they'll want it to be with the TNG crew who remembers all the previous adventures we've seen.

What's probably going to happen is they all somehow end up on the Stargazer again, back where they started, and the Jurati Borg Queen (I'm assuming it's her) will be dealt with differently.

I'm more inclined to believe the Borg will change only from the 25th Century on. Explaining why they haven't either been eradicated or assimilated the entire galaxy by the 32nd Century. Which is why I've always said this was Picard's story to tell, and why I've always maintained they should have the space to tell it.

I’m hopeful for at least a 60 minute show. Anything else might be too short to handle the remaining loose ends.
Perhaps one of our Canadian posters can check their CRAVE listing to see what the scheduled duration is and we can guess from there (less commercials)?

The Juratti Queen becomes part of another timeline where the Confederation tries to destroy the Borg, its the reason why she said there needs to be two Renee's (temporal headache already starting). However in this new revised Confederation timeline, they find a way to get to the Prime timeline (hence the temporal hole in space from episode 1) and request asylum but this time she takes her mask off.

I honestly think the mission here is to let Soong succeed in this timeline. I think this is the Confederation timeline and this is all for naught if Soong doesn’t succeed, the Confederation isn’t formed, and our La Sirena crew doesn’t come through and steal the BQ, head back in tim to the confederation past (explains why Guinan doesn’t know JL) and create Borgati. In the end, I think this is all about her.

All this has happened before and stuff.

We see in VOY's 'Timeless' that Chakotay's girlfriend was willing to possibly cease to exist if it reset history for the better.

(Btw, what an classic episode. I don't think it misses a beat. Firing on all cylinders.)

Maybe we'll end in a timeline where Harry Kim is Captain of the USS Enterprise H. :D

Messed up timelines give me headaches.....
Change that ship to Voyager and we're talking. Janeway can be his security officer.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking! ‪‪I brought it up in the S02E09 episode thread, and it just makes the most sense to me. I’m thinking Q might be instrumental in splitting the timeline into two.

‪‪I think you’re right, except they need to make both the Confederation, and Prime timelines from this divergent point, because of the Borg Queen’s state before and after their trip to 2024. I think that in the Confederation timeline in 2400 the Queen was scrambled, she was speaking in riddiles because of her trans-temporal awareness, because the timeline had been altered/overwritten.

I don’t think Q transported their consciousnesses to an alternate universe at that point, but transported them into their bodies in the newly revised timeline. When they arrive in 2024 the Queen isn’t scrambled yet, because the timeline is still in flux at that point.

‪‪I think, as @Nyotarules mentioned in this thread, it’s all about the 2 Renées, and they have to split the timeline themselves. Maybe they’ll need Q’s help, and he’ll set things right by splitting the timeline with 2 Renées and 2 destinies in a dying action of self sacrifice to achieve the meaning he seeks.

Yeah, this is pointed out in the season.

Perhaps that’s how Rios stays behind then. He and Tallin take care of keeping the Confederation Timeline while Picard, Raffi and Seven return (somehow) to the Prime Timeline.

My initial thought was that there is a second timeline even now. But I forgot this is the branch point. It would make sense based on our speculation for most of the season.

No, they won't make a new timeline. Why? Because Season 3 is the last adventure EVER with Picard and the Ent-D crew. It will be the characters we know and love with their 30+ year history we've journeyed along with together, not alternate versions of them with a lifetime of different experiences.

Also, Matalas says that S2 is self-contained, with no carry-over. So, no shifting timelines.
