One of the reasons I don't care about is the rest is that I know that Grindelwald will end up in prison and later be killed by Voldemort in his search for the elder wand. I would have liked this film series if it focused more on the "fantastic beasts" and gave us a story where we did not know the ending.

I missed Tina's presence in the film. She was one of the more enjoyable aspects of the other two films. They really sidelined her in this film, having her appear in two scenes. And, when Newt and Tina meet in the street it felt awkward to me. It felt the actors were struggling to remember how their characters should act and to recreate the "chemistry".

If this was a case where China was insisting the edits be made before the movie could be released in any country (let alone theirs), then a political firestorm would be fully justified. As it's not, let them have their way, let the dollars flow and hope a better day dawns for that country someday. It ain't worth the headache.

Completely unrelated to FB, but the idea of cutting scenes to allow a movie to be released in countries that don't allow LGBTQ+ content pisses me off. This is an easy way for studios that make lots of money in many other parts of the world to take a stand. As with South Africa in the 80s/early 90s, the entertainment industry actually has an important role to play in social change. Not saying this is going to happen in a fascist country (not Communist) such as China, but it would certainly send an important message.

Right now , the Ukraine invasion for one example. Putin moved in because China agreed to support it in exchange for Russia agreeing to support China's claims on Taiwan. None of this occurs in a vacuum. I have hated the idea of China's favoured trading status for decades. Because of their economic power over Western society, we turn a blind eye to the atrocities their government commits.

Agreed. They could easily stop it here with the way the film ended.

But we get a lot of answers to those in the Harry Potter movies and more so in the books. There were things left out of the Harry Potter movies that were very important too. But it still all hangs together.

And to think it was originally supped to be 3 movies.

Don't blame yourself. I bet the movie put a lot of people to sleep.

Unfortunately, Newt hasn't had much character development. A lot of the characters haven't really show growth in any way.

It's such a minor thing that could have been left in too.

It will be the case where China will insist that in future if we start giving ground on it now. Look how it threatened to ban airlines from entering their airspace because they had the Taiwanese flag listed on their website or wrote Taiwan instead of Taiwan China. Giving in on such a tiny aspect of the film is going to snowball on later down the road and when it gets the world's attention it will be too late to do anything about it. And what was it all for? A few lousy bucks to make the rich richer.

Talking of China the most embarrassing thing I've seen in years was John Cena making a grovelling apology video in Mandarin for calling Taiwan a country so F&F 957 wouldn't get banned there.

Given the Chinese government's hostility to non-Han Chinese people in general, one could plausibly argue that censoring LGBT content is an unfortunate price to pay for the greater good of promoting other cultures to its populace in general. This isn't like South Africa, where shaming and isolating the eligible voting population on the global stage was a clear social imperative. I know that defending corporate profits is weird, but I don't see any easy answers here given the reality of the CCP government and its villainy.

So what’s left that HAS to happen? Grindelwald vs. Dumbledore to the death, Newt & Tina marry, what else? IF they decide to do another, could they condense what they planned into one film?

It's actually making enough money overseas that they'll probably squeeze one more out to finish things off.

Would you believe that JK changed Grindlewald's fate from the books and movies as well?

I second you statement about wanting more fantastic beasts in a film titled Fantastic Beasts.

Everyone missed Tina. She's the best. The actress was unavailable for shooting due to her pregnancy and covid restrictions. Totally understandable, but I wish they could've utilized her character is some constructive manner.

Cena tends to make a fool of himself. When WWE first visited Saudi he made this speech about what an honor it was to wrestle in the Kingdom. Then the very next year, after the decapitation he refused to even go... So which one was empty, the speech, or not going? He does know that killing the journalist was not their first crime... right??

Yeah, I don't quite understand why the went with Fantastic Beasts as the overall series title, when the fantastic beasts appear to be rather insignificant to the overall arc of the series. You'd think it would have made more sense to either go with something related to the war, or just follow the Harry Potter style, with Newt Scamander & The Fantastic Beasts, Newt Scamander & The Crimes of Grindelwald, and now Newt Scamander & The Secrets of Dumbledore.

I think fantastic beasts was the original intent, but somewhere along the way it morphed into "let's tell an origin story about characters from Harry Potter." Should have just called it Wizarding World or something similar.

Just one of the many mistakes leading to this sad end for the once great wizarding world franchise...

I hate how it allows studios to claim they have LGBTQ representation, but it's small isolated moments that don't contribute much to the plot and can be removed without affecting anything.

I dunno. Try asking any woman who's been beaten up by her husband.
