It's really not a great sign but whatever. Gotta remember these are the same people who forgot rank stripes altogether in "Brother", and had them added in post-production with CG.
Really? where did you read that?

From a Gersha Phillips interview with comicbook.com:Really? where did you read that?
The only thing that we didn't actually think about was rank at the time, because in Disco, the rank was done with pips on the badges. So, when we first shot the first few days of Enterprise uniforms, we forgot to put rank on. So then, I forgot who told us, I think it was marketing, actually. John Van Citters saw that we hadn't any indication of rank on our uniform. And so, me and my team, we spent like a night of trying to figure out how we were going to add rank bars on their uniforms. So that was an interesting journey, and it all happened during one night, so we had to figure that out... Then they had to go back and CGI all the stripes on the days that we didn't do it.
Because it isn't important.

They probably didn't have any elastic bands from the mailroom to paint gold.wow talk about an "OOPS" on their parts.
I prefer consistency between visuals and dialogue. Also happen to think that uniforms and starships are part of Star Trek's success so I notice these things and they take me out of the immersion in the show. Like "Wait, why is he calling her Lt. when she wears Lt. Cmdr. stripes". It's a sloppiness that annoys the hell out of me.
I actually never cared about the ranks. Because I followed the interpretation of TOS, TNG, ENT (and VOY & Lower Decks mostly) - where Starfleet isn't a military - it's an astronaut corps. They do have ranks. But they're not strict about them. It's important to know who's in command. But you can be in command faster than someone who had a longer career just by beeing better professionally trained for a situation, and people routinely swap career paths and can rise very fast or stay veeeery long at the same rank.
Of course, in DS9, DIS & PIC (and also the movies somewhat from STII onward) Starfleet is a clear military organisation. There stuff like rank, obedience, chain of command and years of service are important.
I'm interested in what SNW will be like. I guess less strict military than the rest of modern streaming Trek. I hope. But I can still see the influence there. We will see.
There was nothing paramilitary about Starfleet in the TOS S1 episode "Errand of Mercy". Starfleet was the full-on military organization of the United Federation of Planets. Yes in peacetime some ships carried out missions of exploration, but there were plenty that were stationed just to make sure neither the Romulans, the Klingons, or any other hostile species could make a move against Federation planets.I never bought into the whole "Starfleet isn't a military organization" BS. They are probably more of Paramilitary.
