Jeri Ryan, regardless of her age, is still "hot" certainly enough to get cis-men to just obey her.

She thinks it's because of the loss of her Borg implants. Oh, Seven. Living in such progressive times.... Welcome to the 21st century.
I have a longer more engaged relationship with Jeri, but Michelle Hurd is more attractive.

Please dial back the...Guyness.

You know he goes to eleven.

I think Jeri is much sexier in the gray president outfit or the black outfit she put on for the field trip than she was on VOY. Not that I don't appreciate the occasional catsuit.

Agreed, the cat suit, particularly the silver one, never worked for me. But Seven as a character on the show really worked well and trascended the reasons why she was introduced.

If I had to pick one catsuit, the silver one would actually be it I'm not blind, y'know? :mallory:). Agreed that Seven made the show a lot more interesting than Kes was ever going to do. Some of that rarely seen Star Trek character conflict.

The problem with Raffi reacting so strongly is we, the audience, have no basis for her outburst. We know Raffi likes Elnor, based on the first season and this season, we also know she is his commanding officer, but none of that connects to her outburst. Nothing happened before now to establish Elnor as Raffi's surrogate son, nor the representation of her life being rebuilt, nor her lover. This also plays into the question of how much Raffi has actually healed, and is she relapsing?
Well, technically, they did establish it with a couple of scenes, but that's not enough to get us, or at least me, invested. That's the problem with the 2 year gap premise. Some of it works for me, like their changed professional status or, say, Rios and Jurati having broken up (that never seemed all that serious to me). Other stuff less so, like Picard/ Laris. Did they "establish" it with a scene with lingering looks in the vinyard and telling us Zhaban is dead, and Romulans move on, and do the actors have chemistry? Sure, but not in a satisfying way. Same with Raffi/ Elnor. It does make sense for her, with being estranged from her biological son, but I'm not invested i their relationship.

And yes, I think a struggle with relapse would be realistic...

Seven being treated like any person and being amazed by the experience is great. There' an internal aspect I hope will be stated, without her implants she is supposed to have a full range of emotions which were otherwise suppressed, and she does show happiness to a level which she hasn't ever shown in season 1 nor VOY. She should be feeling more like herself than she has since she was a child, pre-assimilation.
I think she always had the full range of er emotions. (Even on Voyager, if you watched her subtle acting, but ofc they retconned that with the cortical inhibitor thing because Chuckles.)

We've seen the full extent of her anger and sadness/ despair (Icheb) last season.

So Rios let’s the doctor keep his comm badge with basically no resistance, instead of insisting that he be able to have it back?
Well, they want the Rios/ doctor romance, so he needs a reason to come back...

I love the little moment when he tries to connect with her by giving his full name in his Venezuelan accent.

I also love how professional and experienced Picard is so far this season. He is phaser focused on what needs to be done and you can tell he has done it many times before. He was so easily willing to let Elnor go because he knew the mission came first.

We know that there was more material filmed showing the development the Picard/Laris relationship that would have gone in that "mood-setting" section at the beginning of "The Star Gazer". It got cut, obviously, which is odd given that Picard isn't beholden to conventional transmission-based run times.

agreed. Especially how he handled his fascist impersonation was…well: Picard. He was no longer an old man lost in the events, he was totally back to his old self.

Santiago Cabrera was born in Venezuela to Chilean parents and grew up mainly in England, but also lived in Romania, Canada, and Spain. He didn't live in Chile until he was 15 years old, though he has Chilean nationality. Perhaps someone with more experience of South American accents can confirm what his accent best matches?

I don't speak Spanish, but I've followed his career long enough and seen enough interviews he's given to answer. He was born in Venezuela but his nationality is and has always been Chilean. His family is Chilean. His father was a diplomat, that's why they moved around so much, but Chile was the home they always returned to between postings - they weren't in Venezuela for more than a few months after he was born. Chile is the home he visited as recently as last Christmas break to see his family there, after being separated by covid for so long. When he speaks Spanish, his accent (and slang) is very Chilean - just ask any of the Chilean Star Trek fans who gush about it all over Twitter after every episode, full of excitement at seeing their nationality and dialect represented.

Almost a 7 but the fantastic performance by Annie as the Borg Queen, in fact the entire sequence with her crawling and the FC theme and her smart ass grin throughout everything, brought it up a notch. She is truly fantastic.

Couple cons in no particular order: Confederation starships must have went to Stormtrooper school at aiming their weapons. One shotting each ship with a torpedo was lame. Not like they had transphasics. The ship crash wasn't very quiet surprised no one noticed. Tough hull by the way. The retcon of assimilation, it's never been depicted as working slowly, more like a blunt force infection.

Couple pros: Raffi bitching at Picard for always playing games with Q. The death around Elnor was acted well. Be cool if he came back as a drone. He's "dead" and will offer the Queen no resistance. The remix of California Dreamin! The Queen vs Jurati sequence was great. "Who's hand is this?" Couple easter eggs with the Sanctuary Districts, UHC card, and Europa. The clinic kid and doctor were fun.

If anyone else thought the California Dreamin remix was cool here's the YT link!

Remember the context. The Queen was unconscious in a low power recovery mode.

I think Picard even said, the more active she is the harder it will be to get away.

There were also no evidence of nano probes, maybe she didn't have any, or whatever the tube was didn't have any.

I agree with some of that. However, they should not have called what happened with the Queen and Jurati assimilation then. It was more like a Vulcan mind meld. Think back to Picard mercy killing Ensign Lynch, who was begging him for help, in First Contact because "There was no way to help him." That's Borg assimilation. It's brutal, vicious, and very unpleasant. This euphoria they talked about this week. I don't buy it.

I was thinking that maybe the crash site locale works both ways--perhaps Picard knew of some ancestors who'd branched out into Califonria winery. Makes more sense than taking the ship across the continent and over the Atlantic when it was in the process of crashing toward L.A. Hopefully the next episode will clarify the location, one way or the other.

The remix of California Dreamin!
That's not a remix, it's a cover...unless you're referring to a remix of the cover.

Woulda been nice if they'd used some version of the original, what with Michelle Phillips having been a guest on TNG.
