I don't think I'd want to see a Kurtzman/Nu-Trek version of the floating heads TVH time travel transition. It was odd and barely worked as I was under Nimoy. Though, I dunno, Lea Thompson directed this so maybe she could have made it work?

With Rios and the clinic doctor I feel more Sarah Silverman in the VOY episode(s) or *maybe* Catherine Hicks in TVH.

With Rios in the hospital I was reminded of Chekov in TVH..

Not to play Moderator, but those politically charged statements have no place here and considering this isn't "our" 2024 it's quite a leap to think Biden is the President, that Trump was President or is even a thing.

2024.. All Biden! Even if Trump wins then not him til 2025

Maybe. In the Litverse Timeline there is only one Janeway. The other Janeway has been killed in the other timelines. Let's hope someone travelled back to prevent Trump's birth....:D

Trump will be president in another timeline in 2024, created by Q. Let's just hope that this timeline is eventually wiped out.

No, since the only change in the timeline occurred in 2024. The presidential election of 2020 would not be affected by that.

That said, it's really not possible to nail down which President was responsible for the creation of the Sanctuary Districts. It could have taken months or years for the concept to work its way through the government. So it could have been almost any President.

Also, I see no particular reason to assume that the presidential line of succession is any different here than in our world. This isn't The West Wing, after all. ;)

Cross posting the following from my response on the new DISC finale thread as it applies here to:

The last three weeks of watching each back to back has made something clear to me, DISC is TOS flavored and PICD is TNG flavored but both are modern takes the classics. It is amazing how the DNA of the respective parent shows are present and accounted for.

As for Assimilation, it felt like every time travel story in the canon. Not complaining! I love all the evocations, and it's got some new twists going on too so winning for me!

Edited to remove vote swap request, I am happy with my 8.

Where is Braxton in 2024?

Nowhere. By the late 90's, the version of Braxton that was stranded in the past had been collected by his fellow officers from the 29th century and taken back to his own time, where he was 're-integrated' with the Braxton that didn't go through those events.

Col. Green, perhaps?

The patient that Rios helps get out, Mr. Alvarez, that actor played a character in TNG

I mean, we see ICE and the Department of Homeland Security. So they are adopted some modern US changes. President Bush was shown in Enterprise on Daniel's timeline wall thing, as was 9/11

Really enjoyed this episode. I'm no fan of the Jurati character, but Alison Pill was fantastic during the link with the queen. The one eye twitching, perfectly still talking worked so well, I'm curious if there was CGI help since it looked so... slightly brain damaged.

And speaking of the Queen, I am loving this version. Her little smile at the start during the chaos when Jurati was plugging her in, the talk with her and Picard.

The 2024 stuff was lots of fun, the ICE stuff has me thinking even more that the event they have to change is preventing Trump's (or perhaps a Trekverse analogue, Adam Soong?) re-election.

Can't wait for next week!

Why would it be Trump? He's probably not a thing in the Trek universe. That'll be stupid to bring him in.
They like to be topical and Trek is subtle as a sledgehammer with it sooooo....

But as said, it may be a Henry Starling/Bill Gates type thing. The hologram of Adam Soong in fascistverse 2501 makes he thing he's our Trumpalike.

I think Adam Soong is connected to the Europa Mission based on the trailers. Q is wearing a coat with the emblem on it when talking to him.

ETA>Oops. voted 8 when I meant 9. Anyone willing to swap votes (your 9 for my 8) would appreciate.
Discovery is TOS flavored in the same way Trix is fruit flavored.

I get you. But didn't they also do that in this episode with the Confederation goons?
Good point. Well, fascists are usually incompetent! (Kidding)

Something that kinda irks me is how easily La Sirena dispatched those three pursuing starships. Queen or no queen, I expected them to be much tougher.
Outstanding performance by Rios. The handling of the immigrants was disturbing.

Maybe ordered by Trump
Whatever the administration, these things happen daily in the US in OUR reality. I find this to be much more disturbing than anything that I can see in fiction.
I have a completely different bad feeling: Everyone will either die or stay in 2024.

I mean, they're not going to be able to get back home, are they? So if, as many have suggested, Jurati is the Borg Queen from "The Star Gazer"...wouldn't this heavily suggest that the characters who travel back to 2024 will stay there (one way or another) and there will be different, 'unspoiled' versions in the repaired 25th century?
They’ll never do this: too cerebral.

I really don’t see it. I don’t see any TOS in discovery these days and not much TNG in Picard either.
